Heritage Assessment

The learning activity and corresponding assignment in this topic requires students to perform a heritage assessment with families selected by students from their local communities.

Interview three families from different cultures. One family should be from your own culture. Compare the differences in health traditions between these cultures.

Assess the three families using the “Heritage Assessment Tool.” In 1,000-1,500 words, discuss the usefulness of applying a heritage assessment to evaluate the needs of families and develop plans for health maintenance, health protection, and health restoration. Include the following:

  1. Perform a heritage assessment on three families. One of these families should be from your own culture.
  2. Complete the “Heritage Assessment Tool” for each of the three families interviewed and submit the three assessments to: RNBSNclientcare@gcu.edu. You are not required to include the tool in your LoudCloud submission.
  3. Identify common health traditions based on cultural heritage. Evaluate and discuss how the families subscribe to these traditions and practices. Address health maintenance, health protection, and health restoration as they relate to your assessment.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Minimum 1 – 2 page paper or 10 slide presentation, not including your cover sheet/ slide and reference page/ slide.

You are approached by a neighbor and her 16 year old daughter who just found out she is pregnant. The neighbor and her daughter want to know what to expect during the pregnancy. Outline for this mother and daughter what to expect during each of the trimesters.

Health Promotion Concepts

Signature Assignment-Ecological Research Paper:  Osteoarthritis Disease

Students will apply the social ecological model to a given health topic in a specific community. Students will address each level of the ecological model and identify how health promotion will be/has been used at each level to address the health topic in their specific community.

Paper requirement:

Students must cite at least 3 peer reviewed journal articles and include a total of 7-10 references. Papers should be 5-8 pages in length ( not including reference page and title page), 12-font, double spaced, and Times New Roman. Students must follow APA 6th edition guidelines for in-text citations and references. Attached above is a sample paper for your guidance.

PowerPoint:

students will prepare an individual presentation on their signature assignment- social ecological research paper. Students will submit a  (i.e., narrated) PowerPoint presentation with at least 10 slides and 7-10 minutes in length that cites evidence from credible sources (e.g., peer-reviewed journals, government reports, textbook). The presentation should contain at least one of the following: graph; chart; graphic; photo; brief content with no spelling mistakes on each slide. In-text citations and references are to be cited using APA 6th edition

Capstone Project Change Proposal

In this assignment, students will pull together the change proposal project components they have been working on throughout the course to create a proposal inclusive of sections for each content focus area in the course. At the conclusion of this project, the student will be able to apply evidence-based research steps and processes required as the foundation to address a clinically oriented problem or issue in future practice.

Students will develop a 1,250-1,500 word paper that includes the following information as it applies to the problem, issue, suggestion, initiative, or educational need profiled in the capstone change proposal:

  1. Background
  2. Problem statement
  3. Purpose of the change proposal
  4. PICOT
  5. Literature search strategy employed
  6. Evaluation of the literature
  7. Applicable change or nursing theory utilized
  8. Proposed implementation plan with outcome measures
  9. Identification of potential barriers to plan implementation, and a discussion of how these could be overcome
  10. Appendix section, if tables, graphs, surveys, educational materials, etc. are created
