The Final Project should demonstrate an understanding of the reading assignments, class discussions, your own research and the application of new knowledge.  It should utilize previous skills developed in foundational health care courses and apply them within the context and viewpoint of  a health care administrator and their role in managing health and human services.

 

For the Final Project, select one of the following topics and conduct scholarly and professional research while integrating the course’s learning outcomes to address a selected topic:

  • Research Requirements

    Academic research and papers must meet certain standards of quality that are recognized by the academic community.  What constitutes quality academic research?

    • The use of primary (original), credible sources written by experts in the field of study.
    • Ensuring secondary sources are supported by research in primary sources.
    • Making sure all research is relevant and that material used is pertinent to the area of study.
    • In graduate work, the use of peer-reviewed journal articles (journal articles reviewed by recognized experts in the relevant field of study) is required.
    • Keep in mind that educational websites may be appropriate, in some cases, but should be evaluated carefully.

    The Ashford University Library offers many excellent databases and other resources to assist you in conducting scholarly research.

    What sources are not acceptable for academic research and referencing?

    • Encyclopedias
    • Dictionaries
    • Wikipedia, other wikis, or blogs
    • Websites and other sources that do not provide quality researched materials (e.g., they do not use credible sources to support the information in the document).

    All research must reflect professional academic protocol and must be documented according to APA standards as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

For most health care organizations, the customer is the patient. Like other businesses, health care organizations are evaluated by many of the usual measures of customer satisfaction (e.g., convenience of location, ease of getting the appointment, waiting time, price, etc.). Unlike most businesses, health care organizations are also judged by patient outcomes. What the “customer” wants and what the “patient” needs may occasionally be in conflict, even though the “customer” and “patient” is the same person. This is one reason customer satisfaction for health care organizations can seem to be an elusive goal.

To prepare for this Discussion:

· Review this week’s Learning Resources.

· Locate and read a scholarly article that identifies factors that influence patient/customer satisfaction in a health care setting.

Post a brief description of and a link to the scholarly article. Then, identify and discuss what you believe is the most important factor that influences patient/customer satisfaction positively and negatively in health care. Finally, justify why those factors are important and address how the article you cited supports or refutes your opinion.

Marketing Plans in Health Care

As you have seen this week, a marketing plan is a tool to help an organization achieve the goals and objectives identified in its strategic plan. In order to be effective, a marketing plan must accurately reflect what the health care organization is trying to accomplish. The marketing plan should also offer a realistic assessment of the market environment, the organization’s position in that market, and a clear and logical strategy consistent with actual conditions and desired outcomes.

In this Application, you will identify and evaluate an actual marketing plan for a health care organization.

To prepare for this Application Assignment:

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Locate and select a health care marketing plan from the Internet, library, or the organization with which you are associated.

To complete this Application Assignment, write a 3-page paper analyzing your chosen health care marketing plan. Be sure to address the following:

  • Briefly describe the health care organization (type, location, size, etc).
  • Analyze how well the marketing plan defines what the health care organization is trying to accomplish. Provide details and justification.
  • Explain to what extent the health care organization understands its environment, the market, and competition. What key market data is presented?
  • Evaluate whether the strategy action match seems logical. Explain.
  • Evaluate whether the marketing objectives are specific. Explain. Provide suggestions if they are not.
  • Evaluate whether tactics are specific, appropriate, and backed with enough power to meet the marketing objectives. Explain.
  • Evaluate whether the health care organization’s marketing plan is logical and realistic. Explain.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has taken on a more visible role in health care. A great deal of change has transpired to improve patient safety and implementation of additional quality metrics.

The new health care reform has begun to change the fees/structure of Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement for health care services.

For this assignment, write a narrative presentation that you will deliver to the members of your organization’s board of trustees on how the new reimbursement structure will impact the organization’s revenue structure. In your presentation, address the following questions:
