What are the pros and cons of cramming?

  • Based on what you have learned about encoding, storage, and retrieval in short-term and long-term memory, how can you use this information to improve your study habits? Explain and provide at least three examples. (Make sure to discuss both short and long term memory within the examples.) [10 points]
  • Using terms and concepts from the text, discuss the idea of “cramming” before a test and whether it is truly a best practice based on what you have learned about STM/LTM. In your response, consider the following:

What are the pros and cons of cramming?

Although cramming information may move info to our LTM temporarily, why is it less likely to “stick” over time?

Will it always work to meet the goals of passing the test?

Will it work to meet the goal of having that information five years from now when you need it in the workplace? [10 points]

  • What role does attention play in memory? Explain and provide examples. [5 points]
  • Discuss the role of distraction in your studying. What are your greatest distractions (Are they internal or external to you?) What can you do to increase attention and decrease distraction? [5 points]
  • How can you increase motivation to maintain attention? Consider short term and long term ways to encourage motivation (reinforcers/rewards) when studying

This is a 10-page essay in which you will reflect upon each of the chapter themes in Why Evolution Is True.  It should include reflections on your development and understanding of what evolution is and is not.  It should include your personal journey of discovery related to the concept of evolution.  It should also include philosophical, theological, and sociological reflections as well as a demonstration of a scientific understanding of evolution.  Additionally, you should critique and evaluate the ideas presented in the book using your scientific understanding of the process of evolution. A rough draft will be due during Module 6 and a final draft will be due during Module 7. Term Paper

Guidelines

1.     Identify a Health, Human or Ecological Topic for Analysis.

2.     Describe the topic and how it relates to the Course, Course Concepts and/or principles.

3.     Analyze the Decision-Making Process (Human) or the Environmental (Ecological) application that is used for your topic

4.     What is the reason for your interest or analysis?

5.     What changes or recommendations should be made?

6.     Would you try to influence your area of interest?

Why or why not? How?

Note: The 6-8 page paper must be typed (12-14 point font), with separate reference (scholarly using MLA, APA or Scientific) and title page.

Thoughts:

1)  Term Paper for Health; Water or Air Quality(Indoor), Asthma, Food Safety, Nutrition , GMO’s vs Organic, Obesity, Drugs and addictions

2)     Term Paper for Human Ecology; Poverty, Housing, Wastes, Sanitation, Food Security  and, Human Hazards (Radiation, and Pesticides); or School Dropouts, Juvenile delinquency and Crime

3)     Natural Hazards (Fire, Flood, Freezing, Earthquakes), and Disease epidemiology (Ebola, Malaria etc.)

4)     Science information/data/research can be used for advocacy of a special interest group, showing differences of expert s, contrasting positions and taking-sides or showing the trade-offs.

How are Impacts or hazards measured or assessed? i.e. cost-benefit analysis, risk assessment, or health/ecological thresholds/indicators.

What are the time frames for decisions? Emergency, Law Enforcement procedures, planning process

Term Paper Assignment CHM1046L Spring

A Term Paper constitutes a written scientific paper that requires several weeks to complete. This assignment requires the development of a procedure to determine a specific goal. There are two specific projects to choose from:

1)   The Kinetics of Jello – Research both kinetics and the process of making gelatin. Using your kitchen, conduct the experiment a minimum of 5 times to accumulate data and statistics and write up your report. Note that a complete study of the kinetics of a system includes the orders of the reactants, the Rate Law and Rate constant as well as the Activation Energy (Ea ) and the Frequency Factor (A).

2)   Paper Chromatography and Intermolecular Forces of Plant Pigments – Research Plant Pigments, Chromatography and Intermolecular Forces. Using your kitchen, conduct the experiment a minimum of 5 times to accumulate data and statistics and write up your report. Note that a complete study should include at least 10 different plant types and a method by which to separate and identify them by chromatography.

Need to know a procedure for one of these experiments! This isn’t to get the paper written for me just help me with the backgrounds on the topics for my paper as well as the procedure and what results to expect.
