Propose strategies foe use of relevant theories that nurse leaders can employ in selected healthcare or educational organizations, considering legal and ethical principles.

Select a grand nursing theory. Explain how application of this theory by nurse leaders and nurse managers can influence outcomes from two of the following areas.

Organizational operations
Patient satisfaction scores
Patient-care delivery
Workflow redesign
Nursing theory is vital to all practice areas in nursing specialties. An evidence-based (theoretical) approach is a quality of professional nursing practice and guides systematic care for patients. If the profession of nursing is to continue to be recognized and respected, members of our discipline must continue to use theory as a basis for critical thinking and decision-making in practice.

In this thread you will respond to and discuss: Select a grand nursing theory. Explain how application of this theory by nurse leaders and nurse managers can influence outcomes from two of the following areas:
• Organizational operations
• Patient satisfaction scores
• Patient-care delivery
• Workflow redesign

The course outcomes that will be used to guide the learning process are:
• Propose strategies foe use of relevant theories that nurse leaders can employ in selected healthcare or educational organizations, considering legal and ethical principles. (PO #2, 6)
• Communicate the analysis of and proposed strategies for the use of a theory in nursing practice. (PO#3)
• Recommend strategies for the use of theory as the basis for actions of advanced nursing practice in leadership and education. (PO#5)

Describe two potential health benefits for the maternal/fetal dyad resulting from physiologic birth care practices.

Physiologic birth includes spontaneous vaginal birth at term with minimal technologic and pharmacologic interventions. Many perinatal interventions currently used decreases physiologic birth.

Using information from evidence based findings found in current professional resources; respond to the following.

· Describe two (2) potential health benefits for the maternal/fetal dyad resulting from physiologic birth care practices.

· Describe how the registered nurse would promote physiologic birth.

· Describe why multidisciplinary collaboration is important when promoting/supporting physiologic birth.

Examine antidepressant therapies, you explore the assessment and treatment of pediatric clients with mood disorders. You also consider ethical and legal implications of these therapies.

Mood disorders can impact every facet of a child’s life, making the most basic activities difficult for clients and their families. This was the case for 13-year-old Kara, who was struggling at home and at school. For more than 8 years, Kara suffered from temper tantrums, impulsiveness, inappropriate behavior, difficulty in judgment, and sleep issues. As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner working with pediatric clients, you must be able to assess whether these symptoms are caused by psychological, social, or underlying growth and development issues. You must then be able recommend appropriate therapies.

This week, as you examine antidepressant therapies, you explore the assessment and treatment of pediatric clients with mood disorders. You also consider ethical and legal implications of these therapies.

Assignment: Assessing and Treating Pediatric Clients With Mood Disorders

When pediatric clients present with mood disorders, the process of assessing, diagnosing, and treating them can be quite complex. Children not only present with different signs and symptoms than adult clients with the same disorders, but they also metabolize medications much differently. As a result, psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners must exercise caution when prescribing psychotropic medications to these clients. For this Assignment, as you examine the client case study in this week’s Learning Resources, consider how you might assess and treat pediatric clients presenting with mood disorders.

Note: This Assignment is the first of 10 assignments that are based on interactive client case studies. For these assignments, you will be required to make decisions about how to assess and treat clients. Each of your decisions will have a consequence. Some consequences will be insignificant, and others may be life altering. You are not expected to make the “right” decision every time; in fact, some scenarios may not have a “right” decision. You are, however, expected to learn from each decision you make and demonstrate the ability to weigh risks versus benefits to prescribe appropriate treatments for clients.

Learning Objectives

Students will:

Assess client factors and history to develop personalized plans of antidepressant therapy for pediatric clients

Analyze factors that influence pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes in pediatric clients requiring antidepressant therapy

Evaluate efficacy of treatment plans

Analyze ethical and legal implications related to prescribing antidepressant therapy to pediatric clients

Discussion 1 In one of the reading assignments this week you reviewed advance nurse practitioner (APN) roles and the application of project management concepts, one of the major elements of NI, but new to most nurses. Does this have an application to your practice? Why or why not?

Discussion 2 A new concept for some organizations is to allow nurses to bring in their own devices known as bring your own devices (BYOD) to use at work. What are some of the security issues you might encounter if this were allowed? How would you address these issues?
