Formulate an argument that is supportive or against the use of the nuclear technology.

As we have been learning, nuclear and radiological technologies have evident beneficial applications in our society including: providing clean energy, medical treatments, national security, and industrial applications. However, there remain realities associated with potential dangers, including examples of past environmental and human health impacts, not to mention the potential proliferation to terrorist groups.

Your writing assignment (20% of your grade) will be to write a 3-4 page convincing and persuasive essay on a nuclear related topic. It is not required that it is specifically a topic covered in class and you are welcome to formulate an argument that is supportive or against the use of the nuclear technology. Some example persuasive topical statements would be:

  • We need to build more reactors in the United States
  • Diagnostic imaging in children should be more heavily regulated.
  • Radiation dose limits for workers should be reduced (or increased).
  • It is necessary to eliminate all nuclear weapons in the United States.
  • The best solution for the disposal of nuclear waste is a deep geological repository

[It is NOT required that it is a topic only relevant to the United States, but these are topics I am more familiar with.]

Knowledge management

The example of knowledge management is Prescribing Decision Support Systems ( PDSS ) .

Critical Analysis…
Some ways to get more critical analysis into this essays…

Avoid unnecessary description – only include general background details when they add to your argument, e.g. to show a crucial cause and effect. Practice distinguishing between description (telling what happened) and analysis (judging why something happened).

Interpret your evidence – explain how and why your evidence supports your point. Interpretation is an important part of critical analysis, and you should not just rely on the evidence “speaking for itself”.

Be specific – avoid making sweeping generalisations or points that are difficult to support with specific evidence. It is better to be more measured and tie your argument to precise examples.

Use counter-arguments to your advantage – if you find viewpoints that go against your own argument, don’t ignore them. It strengthens an argument to include an opposing viewpoint and explain why it is not as convincing as your own line of reasoning.( the most importance point ).
This point means one author has viewpoint and another author has viewpoint against that author . Writing style should be like this .

Critical Analysis Involves…
Carefully considering an idea and weighing up the evidence supporting it to see if it is convincing.
Then being able to explain why you find the evidence convincing or unconvincing.
It helps if you ask yourself a series of questions about the material you are reading. Try using these questions to help you think critically:
Who is the author and what is their viewpoint or bias?
Who is the audience and how does that influence the way information is presented?
What is the main message of the text?
What evidence has been used to support this main message?
Is the evidence convincing; are there any counter-arguments?

TREATMENT PLAN INSTRUCTIONS
You will be assigned the clinical case example of Bill (page 31 from Clinical Management of Sexual Addiction by Carnes and Adams). Based on what you have learned from this course, develop a treatment plan that includes the following headings and information:

Section I: DSM-V Diagnosis (Dx)
What is your diagnosis for the client? Based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual V (DSM-V), explain how you came to your decision by expanding on the following questions:
• What is your rationale for arriving at your main clinical Dx?
• Does the client have a Personality Disorder? Give a rationale for your answer.
• What medical notations would you include with the Dx (if any) that would assist in management?
• What psychosocial/contextual notations would you include with the Dx for management considerations?

You have access to the DSM-V information to inform your decisions by using this Liberty library link:https://libguides.liberty.edu/content.php?pid=544016&sid=4475341
Once this link opens, scroll down to “Psychiatry Online Journals.” On this site, you will find a wealth of information on the DSM-V. You may access the main codes necessary for your Diagnosis by doing the following:
• Click the link “Explore the new edition >.”
• Select “Section II: Diagnostic Criteria and Codes.” A sub-menu of links will open. Click the desired link in the menu to access specific information about that code.

Section II: Further Assessment Needs
What other information would you want to gather from the client (including testing) and why?

Section III: Treatment Goals/Outcomes
What would be the goals/outcomes for the client (make sure they are specific and measurable)? Assuming Bill is a Christian, what would be your spiritual goal(s) for him?

Section IV: Treatment Actions/Interventions
What specific actions/interventions will you take to achieve the treatment goals?
• Make sure that your Interventions correspond with your Goals/Outcomes. Each Intervention must be linked to a specific goal.
