4. What do you think Chris should have done upon discovering the odd pattern in Jason’s orders?

Guide i3[S3[:,?’o “My name is ChriS and r do systems support for our group. I configure the new computers, set up the network, make sure the servers are operating, and so forth. I also do all of the database backups. I’ve always liked computers. After high school, I worked odd jobs to make some money, then I got an associate degree in information technology from our local community college.

‘i\n1way, as I said,I make backup copies of our databases. One weekend, I didn’t have much going on, so I copied one of the database backups to a DVD and took it home. I had taken a class on database processing as part of my associate degree, and we used SQL Server (our database management system) in my class. In fact, I suppose that’s part of the reason I got the job. Anyway it was easy to restore the database on my computer athome, and I did.

“Of course, as they’ll tell you in your database class, one of the big advantages of database processing is that databases have m€tadata,

:.* ;tG-

&.

or data that describe the content of the database. So, although I didn’t know what

tables were in our database, I did know how to :ccess the SQL Server metadata. I just queried a :able called sysTables to learn the names of our ables. From there it was easy to find out what :olumns each table had.

“I found tables with data about orders, -ustomers, salespeople, and so forth, and, just to rnuse myself, and to see howmuch of the query rnguags SQL that I could remember, I started – laying around with the data. I was curious to , row which order entry clerk was the best, so I ‘:arted querying each clerk’s order data, the total umbeiof orders, total order amounts, things .ie that. It was easy to do and fun.

“I know one of the order entry clerks, Jason, : retty well, so I started looking at the data for his

:deis. I was just curious, and it was very simple rrQL. I was just playing around with the data

hen I noticed something odd. All of his biggest :ders were with one company, Valley Appli-

:rces, and even stranger, every one of its orders ad a huge discount. I thought, well, maybe

“:at’s typiial. Out of curiosity, I started looking -: data for the other clerks, and very few of them -,:d an order with Valley Appliances. But, when ,–ev did, Valley didnt get a big discount’ Then I . oi<ed at the rest of Jason’s orders, and none of -.em had much in the way of discounts, either’

“The next Friday, a bunch of us went out for . beer after work. I happened to see Jason, so I .’ked him aboutValley Appliances and made a . xe about the discounts. He asked me what I

-‘.eant, and then I told him that I d been looking .: the data for fun and that I saw this odd pat-

=rn. He just laughed, said he just’did his job,’ -id then changed the subject.

“Well, to make a long story short, when I got rvork on Monday morning, my office was

eaned out. There was nothing there except a – -,te telling me to 80 see my boss. The bottom :le was, I was fired. The company also threat-

,led that if I didnt return all of its data, I d be in . -,urt for the next 5 years . . . things like that’ I was -, mad I didn’t even tell them about Iason’ Now -r’problem is that I’m out of a job, and I can’t . .aCtly use my last company for a reference'”

Think as a scientist

After considering the scientific method explained in the textbook, write an essay about how it compares to the way nonscientists approach problems. Identify some problems that are solvable scientifically and some that are not. Using one or two small problems, describe the process you would go through in solving that problem using the scientific method. Discuss the significance of the scientific approach to the development and advancement of human knowledge. The essay should be about 300 words.

*Above response is just two paragraphs long. Not a page, please not too long… just answer the question… Put above response on separate file. *

Darwin’s Theory / APA format required

The length for this assignment is 1,200 words. Be sure to check your Turnitin report for your post to avoid lack of originality problems in your work.

Darwin was not the first to consider evolution as a process but he did come up with the first effective explanation for how it happens. Describe Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection. Explain how this theory was a major advance over prior ideas as to how organisms changed over time. Give evidence in support of evolution and describe the driving forces for evolutionary change.

 Tourism Planning Environments

Tourism Planning Environments (MKT01760) 1 Assessment 3: Discussion Paper Due: 14 September @ 5:00 pm (NSW) (uploaded via Turnitin on MySCU site) Length: 3000 words Weight: 40% The Task Prepare a discussion paper proposing the preparation of a new tourism plan or policy to address an emerging tourism issue. For example, this issue might be an emerging crisis such as the global financial crisis or the Brexit; or an outbreak of a transmittable disease such as avian flu; or a long-term issue such as climate change, coral bleaching or even a planned deviation of a major highway to bypass a tourist town. You will have to make a number of decisions in order to narrow your focus. Remember the more focused the tourism issue you are addressing in your discussion paper, the more targeted your research will be and the easier it will be to write your assignment! We highly recommend that you identify a topic of your own interest, experience or knowledge and encourage you to discuss it with your tutor. Alternatively, you may choose one of the following:  National tourism planning – e.g. propose a plan/policy to address issues arising for Australia from Brexit; or to address the effects of one of the six megatrends identified by CSIRO on Australian tourism (see: http://www.csiro.au/en/Dobusiness/Futures/Reports/Our-Future-World).  Regional/local destination tourism planning – e.g. propose plan to manage visitation to a cross-border region (e.g. Australia’s Green Cauldron National Landscape in Northern New South Wales and Southern Queensland – australiasgreencauldron.com.au); or propose a response plan to manage the effects of climate change on tourism in a local government area.  Protected marine environments – e.g. propose a policy to manage the effects of a major coral bleaching event in a marine protected area.  Protected lands – e.g. propose a plan to manage commercial tourism operator access to national parks.  New Technologies – e.g. propose the development of a plan/policy to facilitate readiness for and optimisation of applying new technologies in the tourism industry  Indigenous tourism – e.g. propose the development of a plan/policy to address identified gaps in supply and demand issues of Indigenous tourism in Australia (See Ruhanen, L, Whitford, M and McLennan, C 2013. Demand and Supply Issues in Indigenous Tourism: A Gap Analysis. Synopsis available at: www.iba.gov.au/wpcontent/uploads/2013/03/20130304ResearchReport_Demand-and-Supply-Issues-inIndigenous-Tourism-A-Gap-Analysis-Synopsis.pdf Report Content The report will contain the following information: 1. position statement (approx. 300 words) – this statement clearly indicates all the assumptions you have made about who you work for, the agency’s goals and the particular goals and objectives of the policy issue or problem that your paper is addressing. This serves as the introduction 2. background context (approx. 1000 words) – a discussion of issues that have influenced the emergence of this particular issue, ensuring that you have research and properly referenced your discussion Tourism Planning Environments (MKT01760) 2 3. a statement of need (approx. 1000 words) – a background statement on why the tourism plan is needed (consider the role of government, business and other stakeholders, and its possible reasons for government intervention) 4. scope of the proposed plan (approx. 500 words) – identification of possible policy approaches and instruments that the plan or policy will consider (this helps scope or provide direction to those who might be preparing the plan/policy) 5. proposed process (approx. 200 words) – an outline of a proposed planning process including details of consultation, implementation and review 6. a bibliography, including at least 20 references that you have cited in the discussion paper. No more than 7 references are to be web sources and at least 10 references must be academic references. In preparing this discussion paper you are to demonstrate your understanding of the tourism planning environment. You are also required to demonstrate a high level of professional report writing and communication skills, and critical thinking and analytical skills. As a way of demonstrating this, in your paper you are to include the following:  clear headings and well-structured paragraphs  no spelling, grammatical or typographical errors  in-text referencing and a reference list in Harvard Style as per the library style guide: http://libguides.scu.edu.au/harvard  all data, information and sources are to be clearly acknowledged  all quotes are to be properly referenced including author, date and page number. Remember the quality of your paper will help to determine whether the proposed tourism plan or policy will receive government support! Happy writing!
