Commitment of Cultural Competence

“Human service professionals are knowledgeable about the cultures and communities within which they practice. They are aware of multiculturalism in society and its impact on the community, as well as individuals, within the community. They respect individuals and groups, their cultures and beliefs” (Statement 18, Ethical Standards for Human Service Professionals, 1996).

Cultural competency moves beyond simply embracing or tolerating diversity. A culturally competent human services professional operates effectively within a multicultural environment. For this Discussion, you explore your personal commitment to cultural competence. You also think about some concrete ways in which this commitment has influenced your work in this program and how it may influence your future practice in this field.

  • Consider your commitment to cultural competence and how it has influenced your coursework and how it will influence your future practice of human services work.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post  a description of your personal commitment to cultural competence. Then, explain how this commitment has influenced your work in the BS in Human Services program. Finally, explain how this commitment might influence your future practice of human services. Be specific and provide examples to support your response.

Discuss the issue from at least two viewpoints (comparison and contrast)

10 page (minimum less title and reference pages), double-spaced paper written in MS-Word and APA format examining one of the contemporary issues discussed during this course in detail (The Use of PMC’s in Military Operations and Planning).  A reference page must follow the text (5-7 sources). An abstract is not desired. ENSURE the assignment is 10 pages of written text without excessive spacing. Again, cover page and references are not considered a page. In addition, ensure you have a running header and page numbers on the upper right.

The paper must identify the following:

The contemporary issue (define it)

Discuss the issue from at least two viewpoints (comparison and contrast)

Define its applicability to the security profession

Provide a summation

Fostering Creativity And Innovation In Teams

What do organizations such as Amazon, Apple, and Tesla have in common? They are known for being creative and innovative. While most people agree that organizations need to be creative and innovative to be successful, few people can concretely define these terms or articulate how to foster each within organizations. Fortunately, there is a growing body of research in these areas, which provides tangible, evidence-based leadership strategies for fostering creativity and innovation in organizations.

In this Discussion, you will consider recent research in the areas of creativity and innovation and identify specific leadership strategies to foster each within work teams.

To Prepare:

  • Review the articles about creativity, innovation, and organizational adaptability in this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Pay particular attention to definitions and indicators of creativity and innovation within teams.
  • Consider factors that contribute to and detract from creativity and innovation. In addition, identify specific leadership strategies for fostering each within work teams.

Use specific examples from your professional experience or from what you have read about existing teams in organizations to support your response. What are the barriers to creativity and innovation in teams? How might a leader address these barriers to foster both within work teams?
