By this point in the course, you should have a good understanding of ID models and best practices. You have reviewed case studies specifically on front-end analysis. Finally, you have written a goal and objectives in support of your Signature Assignment (to be completed in Week 8).

This week, you will submit a draft of your Signature Assignment.

Overview of Signature Assignment: For your Signature Assignment, you will create an instructional video along with a PDF/script containing graphics for illustrative purposes. Recommendation: Use a procedural (step-by-step) task for your draft and your Signature Assignment. See Week 8 for more information on the Signature Assignment.

For this draft, and to assist you as you create your Signature Assignment, you will turn in the verbiage for your PDF (without graphics) that will also serve as a script for your video. This is also a best practiceespecially for ADA compliance. Youll include graphics in your final Signature Assignment.

You will also include a description of your ideal learning environment for this instruction. It can be online or in person (as the eventual goal is to create an instructional video). You will want to include any technology that is required and any other pertinent information (time of day, length of the total learning experience, LMS, approximate classroom size, number of learners, etc.)

Length: 5-7 pages

References: Include a minimum of 4 credible resources

Your proposal should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect graduate-level writing and APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.

Upload your document and click the Submit to Dropbox button. Although not required, you might also share your assignment in the ID CoP and request peer feedback (your instructor will provide feedback through the course).

In the first four weeks of this class, you have reviewed the basics of ID principles, ID models, and articles and cases that have to do with analysis. Beginning this week, youll start designing.

For this assignment, you will give an overview of your needs assessment (the need for instruction), a basic learner analysis (who your learners are), and what task you want them to do when they complete instruction. You will write one learning goal and three learning objectives, which you will use for your Signature Assignment.

The ability to write goals and objectives is not only an important part of the ID field, but this skill set is also important for all who deal with instruction. Unfortunately, goals and objectives that are not measurable are used as definitive measures. Think about the map for your road trip again. If you dont know where you are going, how will you know when you get there?

In this assignment, you will write one instructional goal based on FAST (function analysis system technique) and three instructional objectives using ABCD (audience, behavior, condition, degree) that you will incorporate into your Signature Assignment. Use the Task Analysis and topic developed in Week 4. Please make sure that you keep the requirement of measurability in mind as you write your goal and your objectives. You would not want to write:

Students will understand a concept.

What does that look like? Continue to ask yourself that question to ensure measurability.

A better example might be:

Students in Foundations of Instructional Design will be able to write an objective using ABCD that is accurate and measurable.

In addition to the goal and objectives, please include a short paragraph, explaining the need for instruction and a bit about who your learners are in one or two paragraphs.

Length: 2 pages

Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy. Review NCU’s Academic Integrity Tutorial to refresh your knowledge of how to achieve academic integrity.

Upload your document and click the Submit to Dropbox button. Although not required, you might also share your assignment in the in the ID CoP and request peer feedback (your instructor will provide feedback through the course).

In the Signature Assignment for this class (due in Week 8), youll create a PDF document or an instructional video appropriate in the context of professional development (K-12, higher education, or corporate institutions). To get you thinking in that direction, you will submit a simple task analysis for your topic. For the task analysis, use the questions for task analysis listed in Chapter 4 of the Brown and Green text. Note: This is just one example of questions that should be asked, but these are some of the key questions.

  • What is the task that individuals should be able to accomplish or perform?
  • What are the key components of this task (i.e., the skills and knowledge and individual needs in order to successfully complete or perform the task)?
  • What is the sequence in which a task is accomplished or performed and should be learned and taught?
  • How can you determine whether an individual is able to accomplish the task?

Youll support your ideas with information from course literature and your own research. Please cite your supporting resources properly (just as you would do with a traditional paper).

Be sure to review this week’s resources carefully. You are expected to apply the information from these resources when you prepare your assignments.

Length: 3-4 pages

References: Include a minimum of 4 credible resources.

Upload your document, and then click the Submit to Dropbox button. Although not required, you might also share your assignment in the ID CoP and request peer feedback (your instructor will provide feedback through the course).

So far, youve studied ID models and needs assessment in this class. How do you feel about what you know so far? Simply having an understanding of models and what is the beginning step in many ID models is a great start! At this point, you should know that you will skip steps in models in your career in ID. However, you will have the knowledge of what you leave out so that you can make the best decisions and recommendations.

This week, youll tackle another case study that examines learner/learning analysis. Learning is more encompassing and involves the learner and the learning environment.

Fun Fact!

There are instructional designers who specialize in front-end analysis (remember, analysis is the A in ADDIE) and some who specialize more in learner analysis. Most instructional designers are generalistsspecializing in everything!

Much like last weeks assignment, you will:

  • Analyze the case (Community Blues: Learner Analysis)
  • Identify the problems/issues
  • Provide a potential solution, based on theories and best practices

However, this week, youll create a short video, as if you were releasing your findings to your client. Most people can only focus on a topic for a few minutes at a time, especially if the activity is passive (like watching a video). This will be a warm-up to your potential Signature Assignment and will help familiarize you with possible technologies that you can use. You may use VideoNote to create the videos for this assignment or another program of your choice like Screencast-o-Matic or Prezi.

Length: 5-7 minutes long.

References: Support your work with a minimum of 4 credible resources; upload the reference page as a separate Word file

To create a video note, select the Record video option in the assignment submission area. You will need your webcam to complete this video. Press the New Recording button when you are ready to record your video note and Stop Recording when finished. Click the Add button to include the video in your assignment submission. Note, the Video Note tool records a maximum of 3 minutes. Plan on splitting your video into multiple segments.

Do not share your assignment in the ID CoP or elsewhere.
