Respond to one of the question prompts below with a paper at least three pages, double-spaced. The claims made in your paper should be supported through careful engagement with the text. I welcome you to contact me if you have any questions or if you would like any assistance. You will need to submit an electronic copy and bring a paper copy to class for submission.

  1. The Euthyphro can be examined from both the search for definitions, and as the struggle between two forms of life; the philosophical and the sophistical/pious.  Why do you think, bearing these two aspects of the text in mind, that the text has an inconclusive ending?  There are several issues that you will want to bear in mind:  How do Socrates and Euthyphro represent different forms of living?  Is Socrates questioning fair?  Does Euthyphros inability to adequately respond to Socrates reflect the weaknesses of the sophistical/pious life?
  2. Socrates claims that the unexamined life is not worth living.  Reconstruct his argument in support of this claim.  First, explain what Socrates thinks is valuable about life. Then explain what the value of examination is. In a paragraph, develop a criticism of one part of Socratess argument.

Immigrants And Refugees

In your paper (3 to 4 pages) you are asked to describe in detail how immigration and refugees have played a role in evolving terror trends in Canada.

Research from outside sources (no textbook), title and reference pages are not included in page count. Use citations and references per APA. Even “opinions” are supported by evidence and should be written in third person narrative. No news or media to be used as references or research material

Reflect

  • Review Chapter 52 in the Florian text, reflecting on how special education has evolved as a result of federal reforms.
  • Review the Leko et al. article identifying aspects of personnel needed to prepare for the future of special education. Consider evidence from the research to support your plan.
  • Review the teachers guide for involving students and parents in transition planning in the Cavendish et al. article.
  • Review the Hirano et al. article, reflecting on the conceptual model for parental involvement and transition planning.

Professional and Theoretical Knowledge

Create a 2- to 3-page paper that includes the following components:

  • A reflection on the evolution of the field of special education by describing where it is currently at and where it is heading.
  • A reflection on how Waldens mission of social change relates to and has an impact on you as a special educator.
  • A description of how you will stay current on key topics, laws, and practices in the field of special education.
  • An explanation of how you will ensure students with exceptionalities will be contributing members of society. Include at least one reference to college and career readiness skills and discuss how transition plans can support your ideas.

Promoting and Maintaining Health

Purpose: The purpose of this project is for you to apply what you have learned to a life-like situation. In this project, you will create a PowerPoint presentation with narration (voice recording) to achieve a specific goal with a specific population. Your presentation must incorporate current theory as well as known and effective methods of behavior change.

Topic: Health psychologists work in a variety of settings, but the goal is always the promotion and maintenance of health using a biopsychosocial approach. Below are some examples of topics that would be appropriate for your presentation:
 Health Care Policy – You have been hired by the U.S. Department of Health to Develop a campaign aimed at reducing obesity in children. Your target audience is elementary school children.
 Managed Health Care – You have been hired by an elder care health facility to develop a program highlighting the importance of exercise in the elderly. Your target audience is sedentary elderly with diverse mobility.
 Genetic Testing – You are working in a clinic that provides genetic testing for breast cancer. You are asked to develop a program for working with clients and how to help cope with their risk status and how to change risk-relevant behaviors. Your target audience is women between the ages of 35 to 70 years.
 Organizational Health – You are hired by a major company to help reduce absenteeism. Your job is to create a presentation that provides strategies about how to manage stress in a high-stress occupation. Your target audience is company employees who frequently miss work due to complications of stress.
 Community Health –You have been contracted by the State Department of Health care to improve health care utilization to people of low SES and minority status. Your target audience is individuals of low SES and minority status who underutilize available health care options.

After considering your topic and your audience, decide what approach would work best to achieve your goal, e.g. an attitudinal approach or a cognitive behavioral approach. You should be clear about what you goal is. Are you trying to modify a health-risk behavior that is already in place (e.g., smoking), are you trying to prevent a health-risk behavior from occurring (drug use, obesity), are you trying to enhance coping skills (stress, terminal illness)?
Design: Your presentation should be structured around the following five components:

  1. What is the purpose or goal of the presentation?
  2. What is the most effective way in which to reach your target audience?
  3. What does your audience need to know about the topic?
  4. What intervention (based upon known research findings) is best suited to achieve your goal?
  5. Is my presentation based upon a biopsychosocial model?
