Lab Week 6

Scenario/Summary

Assess Your Own Body Weight and Develop a Diet and Exercise Program.

Deliverables

Part 1: Define BMI

You must define BMI, though not just with a general definition indicating its relationship to height and weight. Please also do not forget to define the actual term BMI.

Part 2: Calculate Your BMI

Many students use an automated calculator to complete this part of the assignment. I will deduct points if I do not see the actual math calculations. Please include all stages of the math calculations associated with determining your BMI.

Part 3: Compare/Contrast BMI & Individual Plan

There are three sections to this part of the assignment, and for the first part, you need to designate where your BMI falls according to the standard tables (underweight, normal, overweight, obese). In the second part of the assignment, you need to develop a dietary plan for your BMI value, and for the most part, you need to be as detailed as possible. Basically, I would like to see a day in your life according to where your current BMI falls. You need to include how many calories you plan on taking in and why, and you also need to develop a day’s worth of eating with specific foods and portions. (Please note: this should be a healthy plan using the sound nutrition principles we’ve learned in this class, which may be different from your current habits) As far as the exercise plan, again, you need to be as specific as possible. The goal of this section is to develop a plan that incorporates all of the components of a sound fitness program (flexibility, endurance, strength training, body fat, and cardiovascular), as well as discuss specific exercises that you plan on doing. Basically, the goal is to produce a weekly plan, with specific exercises, that has all of the components of a sound fitness plan.

Breaking The Substitution Cipher

One way to break a substitution cipher is to use frequency analysis. Let’s focus on the English language for now but the process works the same way for other languages.  The character “e” occurs 12.7% in the Eglish language and the letter “t” occurs 9.35% and the letter “a” is 8.2% of the time.  So, you can count each character in the ciphered text, compute its frequency and start replacing it.  After you complete the first say 4 characters, you may want to change your strategy.  Can you explain why you want to stop after the first 4 characters? The two-character “of” is about 4.16% and “to” is about 2%.  Now try three characters frequency.

After a period of time, you will be able to decipher most of the text.  I am going to ask you to do your first significant homework using frequency analysis.

Note that we can have 25 factorial of these possibilities (remember 2^88 – 28-bit key)

Here is your homework – A character sub was used. Can you decipher as much of this text as you can? Submit your results in the drop box. You may use Python to code the solution.

Assessment 5 – Journal Article Summary – Due In 22 Hours

THIS IS DUE IN 22 HOURS. I HAVE PROVIDED THE INSTRUCTIONS, ALONG WITH ATTACHING ALL THE INFORMATION POSTED TO HELP UNDERSTAND BETTER.

ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS

For this assessment, you will identify a published research article either in the print literature or online in the Capella University Library. Your article must be based on empirical (data-based) research; qualitative or purely descriptive research is not appropriate. Select a journal article in your career specialization that reports a correlation, a test, a one-way ANOVA, or some combination of these test statistics. The library guides listed in the Resources area can help you to locate appropriate articles.

The intent of this assessment is to:

  • Expose you to professional literature in your discipline.
  • Provide practice in the interpretation of statistical results contained in an empirical (data-based) journal article.
  • Provide practice in writing and thinking in a concise and economical manner that is typical of scientific discourse.

You will summarize the article in a maximum of 600 words using the DAA Template located in the Resources area under the Required Resources heading. Specific instructions for completing each section of the DAA Template are listed below.

You may use some of the author’s own words to summarize the article with proper citation, but avoid lengthy direct quotes (such as copying multiple sentences or paragraphs verbatim). You should not exceed the limit of 600 words. This is a situation where less is better.

Step 1: Write Section 1 of the DAA

  • Provide a brief summary of the journal article.
  • Include a definition of the specified variables (predictor, outcome) and corresponding scales of measurement (nominal, continuous).
  • Specify the sample size of the data set.
  • Discuss why the journal article is relevant to your career specialization.

Step 2: Write Section 2 of the DAA

  • Discuss the assumptions of the statistical test used in the journal article.
    • If possible, identify information in the article about how these assumptions were tested.
    • If no information on assumptions is provided, consider this as a limitation of the reported study.

Step 3: Write Section 3 of the DAA

  • Specify the research question from the journal article.
  • Articulate the null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis.

Step 4: Write Section 4 of the DAA

  • Report the results of the statistical test using proper APA guidelines. This includes:
    • The statistical notation (such as r, t, or F).
    • The degrees of freedom.
    • The statistical value of r, t, or F, and the p value.
  • Report the effect size and interpretation if one is provided.
  • Interpret the test statistic with regard to the null hypothesis.

Step 5: Write Section 5 of the DAA

  • Discuss the conclusions of the statistical test as it relates to the research question.
  • Conclude with an analysis of the strengths and limitations of the study reported in the journal article.
