Advertising and Television Commercials

Description

Consumers have been bombarded by images of advertising for years, particularly in our contemporary society with the enhanced technology of television and the internet. Using two examples of current advertising (print, internet, or television) describe how your selected images result in powerful and compelling communication. Include the images at the end of your paper. Answer the following questions: What am I being sold? What fantasies or cultural myths are being broadcast? What stereotypes, if any, are being reinforced? Essays should be a minimum of 2-3 pages in length, typed, double-spaced, 12 pt. font, free of all spelling and grammatical errors, no plagiarism, Chicago Style formatting with footnotes and bibliography. Submit in Canvas in DOC, or DOCX format. Be sure that you answer the question asked in its entirety and be sure to proofread your answer.

Health Parenting

  1. Select an article provided or find another article from the New York Times related to Parenting Education (must be within the last 3 years). If you are selecting your own article, make sure that your article is not too short, so you have enough to write.
  2. Write a summary of the article in your own words. If you are copying any text, use quotes. You should only use 1-2 quotes, if at all. Make sure to put the information in your own words. When summarizing a text, the goal is to capture the meaning of what you are summarizing in a way that is shorter than the original and often has a broad overview of the source that is being summarized.
  3. Discuss how this article relates to you, the class, or society. What do you think of the information that is provided? Do you agree with the findings or disagree? Explain your own point of view

Constitutional Law & Criminal Procedure

1) Who was the Rockefeller referred to above and why was he so concerned about the Sherman Act? This is a simple matter of a Google search if you don’t already know. You don’t need Lexis for this one, and a 1-2 paragraph summary will suffice.

2) Read Standard Oil Co. v. United States, 221 U.S. 1 (U.S. 1911), an early Supreme Court case. Briefly summarize the facts, and discuss in no more than 3 paragraphs why the Court reached the conclusion it did. Explain how you think the Court might rule in a case involving Cal Hockley’s steel mills and why.
