Marketing and Communications

Week 5 Discussion

Question A Analyze the case study design below and post an analysis The Case: KandyLand provides sweet treats for all seasons, but they really gear up in the summer so that their products are ready to go for the winter holidays. However, KandyLand has been experiencing problems in the shipping department. Order fulfillment errors are high. During your assessment of their process, you discovered that orders place “on-line” via the web were filled correctly 98% of the time and those that were entered by call-center customer service representatives were filled incorrectly 98% of the time. It was determined that the call-center’s order entry tool was out of date and did not match that used by the shipping department.   In addition, the data showed that over half of the customers ordering by phone had internet technology but were “not comfortable” ordering electronically, so they called their orders in. The “idea” is to move all orders to online order entry for all clients.   The Design: •Train the sales reps

•Work with Marketing and Communications to create web and surface mail communications indicating that phone orders and surface mail orders will no longer be taken.

•Arrange for sales representatives to call customers and walk them through an online order or to visit them in person and walk through the online order

•Give sales reps an online form for reporting problems experienced by specific customers and other feedback.

•At weekly QA (quality assurance) meetings, summarize sales reps feedback and actions taken to solve problems

•Move 20% of customer service call-center reps into production roles or shipping roles

•Three-months after transition, determine whether the call-center staffing ratio is correct, whether lay-offs are needed, and determine whether there are other call-center issues that need to be addressed. Question B What are the critical factors to consider in the design of a work system? What role does technology play in the design of work systems? Use data from credible outside resources to backup your response.

1. FINAL PAPER: World View Chart Writing Assignment

Due Week 10 and worth 235 points

This assignment uses the information you have gathered for your weekly World View Chart Assignments.

Choose ONE (1) category (origin of all things, nature of god, view of human nature, view of good and evil, etc.) from the chart to focus on for this assignment. Consider how the selected category relates to all of the religions covered and to your own social or work experiences.

Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:

1. Select ONE (1) category from the completed World View Chart. Provide a rationale for choosing this category. What is compelling about this category? Why is it important in the study of religion?

2. Describe the selected content and explain the significance of the selected category across all of the religions studied. Show in what ways the category is significant for each religion.

3. Give an example of how you have noticed this category in your life, town or country. What impact does this category have in the everyday lives of people who practice religion in your area? (You do not have to give examples of all the religions in your area, just one you have noticed besides any you practice). For example, in Cincinnati, Ohio we have Hindu, Greek Orthodox, Catholic festivals in the summer. So if my category were “Festivals and Celebrations” I could use those events as my example.

4. Use at least three (3) quality resources as references for the assignment and document your sources using APA Style for in-text citations and references. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

5. Write clearly and coherently using correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and mechanics.

Your assignment must:

· Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

· Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

Week 2

Hinduism and Jainism

In this religion, there are multiple creation stories; one is that which posits that god sacrificed Purusha by cutting his body into two and made the human world as well as the universe out of the two divided body parts. Another Hindu creation story is the well-known Hyndu Trinity! This story explains that there were three beings in the beginning, “Rahman, Vishnu and Shiva. The three beings created the universe by way of lotus that they broke into three parts representing the earth, heaven and the sky and then populated the earth with all kinds of living creatures. Rahma, the creator, is believed to create and destroy the universe over and over again. He is the sustainer of everything in it also. It is believed that a person takes three paths, karma marga, the path of action, jnana marga, and the path of knowledge and Bhakti marga which represents the path of devotion. Based on the concept of karma, good and evil are determined by motives of actions and their consequences. Salvation for Hindus is when a human being has been freed from the daunting cycle of life and death. This salvation is called Moksha. Basically, there are four ways to Moksha; the way of actions, knowledge, devotion and the royal road. As one dies, they transits from one life to another. However, the rebirth is dependent on one’s karma throughout their entire life. If positive karma outweighs the negative ones, then, they’re likely to have a positive rebirth. Most rituals practiced by the Hindu take place in the temples. Such practices are in worship of the gods and goddesses. The three major Hindu festivals are Holi, Diwali and Mahashivaratri. Holi is celebrated after the full moon of the Phalguna month. Diwali lasting about 5 days is held at the last day of the Vikran calendar. Mahashivarati is held on the 14th day of lunar month of the Phaguna.

Week 3

Buddhism

Because Buddhist do not have a creator god, they believe that everything that is seen in the current world is as a result of some destruction and recreation of the universe Since they do not have a creator, they believe that there were no god during the creation. Buddhist believe that Buddha shall ultimately highlight them. People believe in the wheel of life and death, Bhavacakra, which determines one’s rebirth based on their karma. Every Buddhist is bound to suffer. Everything inherent in life has some forms of strive, pain and death. Though this religion do not believe in demons, they posit that the origin of evil is people’s sinister motives driven by anger, greed and delusion that produces the life and death cycles The extinguishing of karma that makes up an individual is the end of life. However, good deeds are the primary sources of merits that might help one secure a better rebirth Buddhists believe is samsara; everyone shall be reborn. However, the better the deeds, the higher the chances of a positive rebirth. There are three jewels that are of importance to and Buddhist; Buddha, dharma and the sangha. Even though there are no explicit practices and rituals, other Buddhist give monks some presents in order to increase their spiritual power and success. The most celebrated festival is the New Yearn, Buddha’s birthday. It is celebrated differently in different countries and regions.

Week 4

Daoism and

Confucianism

In Daoism and Confucianism, it is believed that something existed before heaven and earth. They Believing in Tao, patterns, cycles, and earthly order everything was made through energy. Due to their custom, there is light that travels towards the heaven and the heavier one that travels towards earth They believe in the way since they don’t recognize the existence of a creator. To them, there is no god. People believe that they are in line with other creatures thus having harmony amongst themselves. Confucianism focuses on setting a good example for others to follow. In Daoism many people have different views on evil. Some believe that nature doesn’t provide any care to people. So there is no form of punishment of doing evil. Others believe that evil is when people do not follow the order of nature. To add on that, they believe that a person has multiple souls including the cloud and bone souls. Bone souls captures the wrong doings of a person and reports them to the heavenly officials. In Confucianism, they don’t believe that mistakes are sins and evil doesn’t exist. Salvation is aligning yourself with the work of nature, patterns and cycles according to Daoism. Confucianism doesn’t focus on one’s individual salvation but on creating a good society. Daoist’s believe that after death, you will live on the memories of others and will rejoin the universe. On the other hand, Confucians believes that death marks the end of life. Funeral rituals and rituals on behalf of the communities are the main rituals of Daoism. They actually give offerings, fast and create a sacred place to do it. According to Confucianism, ancestral ritual is the main ritual where they remember them, communicate with them and give them offerings. Lantern festival, tomb sweeping day, dragon boat festival, Chinese new year’s and hungry ghost festival are the main festivals celebrated by Daoism. They represent different signs. Confucianism has multiple festivals including: Chinese new year’s, birthday of Confucius, qing ming, chongmyo taeje and ching ming.

Week 5

Shinto

For Shinto kami, the spirits created the universe. The deities “Izanagi and Izanami” are the ones that made the universe into existence (Katu, 2010). Abstract powers associated with nature, family ancestors and the souls of the auspicious dead are the main categories of the Shinto. Amartesu is the most well- known god [kami] of the Shinto. These spirits are considered to be the ancient ancestors. This is because the ancestors possessed the values and virtues of being a kami after their death. Humans are not born with sins and the act of purification washes away any kind of sin that one might have acquired. The practice is believed to help maintain an individual’s purity. Evil is believed to be impurity and pollution. These leads to humans suffering of as they experience life. Shinto does not actually believe on salvation but focuses on doing good deeds that lead them to a better rebirth. It is believed that all those who died went to the hell under world where there is no escape. Later they adopted the Buddhism after life theory. Rituals are the main activities of the Shinto where purification, prayer, offerings and entertainment of the spirits are carried out. This is done in sacred places manifested by the kami. Matsuri is a yearly event where the whole community is included. This may take a couple of days where life cycle, coming of age and marriage are the main events in this festival.

On day 3 land and vegetation were created. On day 4 the sun, moon and the sky were created. On day 5 birds and the sea creatures were created. Human and land animals were created on the 6th day. Day 7 was particularly the resting day. They actually believe that there is only one ever living God. They believe that God is fair and grants mercy. God forgives, punishes the sinful and even give eternal life to the righteous. Particularly, human was created in the image of God and is viewed that to actually possess the qualities that was possessed by the creator. Human was actually created in two varying was that is why they can choose between bad or evil. Week 7

Christianity

Christians have the same believe that earth was created by God in seven days. This was actually done in an orderly manner. Christians also believe that there is only one God who is merciful and displays unconditional love to human beings. God is actually believed to have sent his son to rule the humans and is believed that everything that happens is according to the Gods’ plans. He is also believed to dislike sin and has the potential of punishing law breakers. Christians view that everything was created for a purpose and have to be taken care of. They believe that serving God is meant as a respect and this should be done with persistence. Good is believed to be doing as God commands while evil is known to be going against these commands. Evil is also believed to have been introduced by Adam and Eve after eating the fruit which was on the middle of the garden. Salvation is gained by following as God commands. It is believed that God accesses everybody’s behaviors which were undertaken on earth and decides whether one goes to heaven or hell. His divine love is actually seen when he sent Jesus Christ to be the guider. After death, everybody is judged according to the behavior on earth. Basically, God decides whether one can acquire eternal life or go to hell. Sacraments is the name that is particularly used to refer to the rituals. Baptism and Eucharist are the most important rituals that are observed by Christians. Baptism is meant to be the beginning of life since water washes away sins and a new beginning is marked. Christians take into consideration to many festivals and celebrations but the main one is Easter.

Week 8

Islam

Muslims believe that earth was created by God in a duration of 6 days. Quran don’t actually state the specific creations of each day. They only know that God use commands on these creations and they came into existence. Allah being the creator of everything, they believe that He is the same God that is being worshipped by the Christians and the Jews. They also believe that He grants all His mercy and there is no other god that can be worshipped other than Allah. Muslims believe that they were made from soil and the air was breathed and they came into existence. They were not actually born with sin but are prone to temptations. Muslims believe in sins and they actually believe that if a person realizes his sins and take into consideration, then forgiveness is guaranteed. Muslims believe that if one of them die while fighting for Islam, then he is termed as have been saved. However if your sins also are less than your bad deeds then you are also saved. Muslims have a belief in life after death. Allah will finally judge everybody according to his deeds and decide whether you proceed to heaven or hell. Most rituals are kept in touch by the Muslims. This actually make them undergo many transitions. An example of this is circumcision of the newborn children. Muslims are also prohibited from eating pork since it is termed as unclean. According to Quran, marriage and death are actually important. Scriptures are read to a dying person followed by prayers then purification is done to wash away sins and for the person to get eternal life after death.

Week 10

New Religious Movements

New religious movements believe in God as the creator of everything. Since everything was created on the eighth dynamic, then they believe in it as God. However, some other new religious movements may believe in more than one gods. The eight dynamic is actually believed as above all. Actually they take into consideration believing in this God. Despite the fact that new religious movements know the goodness of human beings, evil has come and tried to disturb the mind. This can actually be suppressed by being firm in God. New religious movements believe in the presence of evil but only comes in some circumstance. Evil always come when some hard circumstances such as stress are subjected to human but when they are given time, they can act equally good. However they believe in thetan, the spirits. They actually know that when one dies there is the rebirth of thetan. There is no judgment before the spirits are reincarnated. New religious believes that when someone dies, the soul comes to life in another body. They do not believe on the issue of heaven and earth. Moreover when one joins the religion he is counselled by an auditor and the sins done early can be done away with. New religious movements do not recognize the respect given to dead people but they only believe that people can do what they want to dead bodies. Should The U.S. Convert To A Zero Personal Income Tax

In 2017, Motley Fool reported at https://www.fool.com/taxes/2017/04/06/where-do-your-tax-dollars-actually-go.aspx that the U.S. Government spends about $2.7 trillion for various  kinds of social insurance (Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare,  unemployment compensation, veterans benefits, and the like). Another  $604 billion, or 15.3% of total spending, went for national defense; net  interest payments on government debt were about $240 billion, or 6.1%.  Education aid and related social services were about $114 billion, or  less than 3% of all federal spending. In  spite of the services and benefits that the government provides, many  taxpayers dread paying income taxes but consider them a necessary evil.  Consequently, there is much debate about the inequities contained within  the tax code, due to tax shelters and tax credits provided to some  taxpayers (which thereby increase the tax burden on others).

Using the Internet or Strayer Library, research one (1) country that has a zero income tax rate.

Write a four to five (4-5) page paper in which you do the following:

  1. Analyze  the way in which the country you have researched provides services and  benefits to its citizens without collecting personal income taxes.
  2. For  the country that you have chosen, determine whether the U.S. could  adopt their taxation model without reducing its total amount of revenue  (as currently generated by collecting income taxes from individuals and  businesses). Justify your response.
  3. Suggest  at least two (2) advantages and two(2) disadvantages of the U.S.  adopting a zero income tax model. Provide a rationale for your  responses.
  4. Speculate  on the primary way in which the federal government could make up any  shortfalls if it does not collect its targeted revenue from personal  income taxes. Ascertain the most significant way in which the U.S.  Department of the Treasury, through the IRS, can still adhere to its  fiscal and monetary policies. Justify your responses.
  5. Use at least three (3) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and other websites do not quality as academic resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be  typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with  one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA  or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional  instructions.
  • Include  a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s  name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover  page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment  page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Examine  the types of taxes imposed at the federal, state, and local levels; the  federal tax formula; and the rules for arriving at personal and  dependency exemptions.
  • Analyze  the concepts of gross income and distinguish between the economic,  accounting, and tax concepts of gross income and strategies to minimize  gross income, maximize deductions, and minimize disallowance of  deductions
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in federal taxation.
  • Write clearly and concisely about federal taxation using proper writing mechanics.

Case Study 2 I Pledge Allegiance To The Flag – Elk Grove Unified School District V

I Pledge Allegiance to the Flag

Religion and Politics have traditionally been highly debated topics in our society. Recently, the Pledge of Allegiance has added to this debate.  American citizens have generally recited the Pledge of Allegiance at important ceremonies ranging from presidential inaugurations to the beginning of the school day. The pledge has a great deal of sentimental value to many Americans, but also creates a great deal of controversy for others.

Review the Supreme Court case Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow, which highlights the debate.

Write a five to eight (5-8) page paper in which you:

1. Summarize the salient points of the Supreme Court case Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow.

2. Discuss the levels of the court through which the case evolved before it reached the Supreme Court.

3. Explain the decision of the Supreme Court in this case in brief.

4. Explain the fundamental impact that the court decision in question has had on American society in general and on ethics in American society in particular. Provide a rationale for the response.

5. Discuss whether you believe that the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance is a religious issue or a sign of respect for the United States.

6. Discuss whether or not you think public schools should be allowed to recite the pledge.

7. Use at least three (3) quality academic resources.

Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.  Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

•Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

•Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.  The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

•Examine the current ethical issues inherent throughout the criminal and civil justice systems.

•Describe the dispensation of justice through the criminal and civil justice systems.

•Use technology and information resources to research issues in the criminal court and the judicial process in America.

•Write clearly and concisely about the American court system using proper writing mechanics and APA style conventions.
