Instructions: The following question to be answered in a 5-6 page paper

This question concerns your interpretation of “Do the Right Thing.” For starters, Spike Lee never tells his audience what “the right thing” is. What is “the right thing?” Why? Based on your sense from the film, which psychological explanation of prejudice (i.e., sociocultural, personality, or cognitive) does Spike Lee seem to favor? Why? Trace a few of the significant events that occur throughout the film and explain how they illustrate the particular theory you choose. Using any of the theories, discuss the ultimate conflict at the end. In general, does Spike Lee seem optimistic or pessimistic about the future of race relations? Could this film be of use in the battle against racial prejudice? Explain.

Finally, using your knowledge (and insight) from the course, analyze and answer the following:

–Was Buggin’ Out justified in his demand that Sal place pictures of African-Americans on his

wall?

–Why was “the Mayor” treated poorly by the neighborhood residents?

–Of what importance were the three black males sitting on the sidewalk? Pay particular

attention to their discussion of the Korean market across the street.

–Can one characterize each of the following as racist: Sal, Sal’s sons, Buggin’ Out, Radio

Rahim, Mookie? Why?

–What purpose was served by Mookie’s throwing a trash can through the storefront of the

pizzeria?

Application Of Crisis Theory And Resiliency Theory To A Case Study

Assignment: Application of Crisis Theory and Resiliency Theory to a Case Study

It is common for social workers to be presented with a crisis situation brought forth by clients, families, communities, and/or organizations. The ultimate goal is to restore the client to equilibrium. The five stages of the crisis are (1) the hazardous event, (2) the vulnerable stage, (3) the precipitating factor, (4) the state of active crisis, and (5) the reintegration or crisis resolution phase.

There are times when a social worker will use more than one theory to assist in conceptualizing the problem and intervention, particularly if the theories complement each other. For example, resiliency theory can be used alongside crisis theory. To prepare: Review and focus on the same case study that you chose in Week 2. (Case of Jake Levy)

Prepare- Submit a 1- to 2-page case write-up that addresses the following:

•Map the client’s crisis using the five stages of the crisis.

•Describe the client’s assets and resources (in order to understand the client’s resilience).

•Describe how you, the social worker, will intervene to assist the client to reach the reintegration stage of the crisis. Be sure that the intervention promotes resiliency.

•Evaluate how using crisis theory and resiliency theory together help in working with a client.

Teenage Years

The Teenage YearsInstructions

Pretend that you are a psychologist who is meeting with a client concerned about her 14-year-old. Your client tells you that she is not sure what to expect, now that her child is becoming a teenager. She asks you, “What is going to happen to my child biologically, psychologically, and socially over the next few years?” She also wants to know how she can build a strong relationship with her teenage child and better cope during these many developments.

Write a 2-3 page paper addressing your client’s questions and concerns. Be sure to cite the unit readings and/or outside sources to support your facts and statements. Include both in-text citations and a reference page, in APA format.

Case 2: Mark

Mark is a 28-year-old inmate in the transition unit at a correctional facility who is expected to be released in two months.

Setting: Huntington Correctional Facility, Inmate Transition Unit, Job Placement Training Division.

Situation

Mark has been an inmate at the Huntington Correctional Facility for four years. He is 28 years old and completed his GED during his time in the facility. Mark is currently in the Inmate Transition Unit, as he is set to be released in two months.

Mark’s behavior and actions during his four years in the facility have provided him the opportunity to participate in job placement training. He has been in the program for three months. He has been attending educational activities as part of the program and has worked both in groups and individually with his job placement case manager. He has been an active participant and has shown skills in large engine mechanics.

Vocational assessments indicate that Mark’s strengths include skill in working with this hands and strong problem-solving skills. His weaknesses include communicating with authority figures and asking for help. In order to successfully complete the program, Mark must complete a mock job interview with the job placement training coordinator. Mark is working with his case manager to prepare for this interview.

the introduction to Unit 4. One of those capabilities is the research skill of gathering data, which involves not only the collection process, but also the thinking processes involved in synthesizing what you find and integrating it into a coherent picture of the client and the situation. This assignment, the first of three in your capstone project, is designed to have you apply this capability to the case that you selected.

Your assignment is to write a case conceptualization, a description of the case and an interpretation of the issues and problems involved. The studies and discussions in Units 4 and 5 were designed to provide the rich data and information upon which you will draw to arrive at your understanding of this client and his situation.

Case Information

In Unit 4, you chose one of these two case clients as the basis of your project work:

  • Case 1: Joseph, an 8-year-old first grader recently placed in foster care after an emergency removal from his home.
  • Case 2: Mark, a 28-year-old inmate in the transition unit at a correctional facility who is expected to be released in two months.

Be sure to read the initial case information for your case located in the Resources. In addition, the media piece Interactive Case File provides greater detail on both clients.

Instructions

You began gathering information about your case client in Unit 4, using information in the course files and the media piece Interactive Case File. Now pull this information together, analyze what you have, and write a case conceptualization, following this format:

  • Background: Provide a clear and concise background of the case, showing a holistic view of the client.
  • Problem Identification: Provide an analysis of the main issues in the case. Clearly connect how issues and needs presented by the client are affecting his emotions and behaviors.
  • Case Summary: Present a concise conceptualization of what the needs are and a rationale as to why they should be the focus of your recommendations. Keep in mind that this section is what you will present to the collaborative team, so you want to make sure that you are presenting a clear snapshot of the person and the areas that need to be identified. If more than one need or issue is present, make sure to rank these needs and support why one needs to be addressed over another. The goal is not to make recommendations, but rather to provide a solid starting point for the collaborative team to begin thinking about recommendations.

Requirements

  • Written communication: Written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.
  • APA formatting: Resources and citations are formatted according to APA (6th edition) style and formatting.
  • Length of paper: 5–8 typed double-spaced pages.
  • Font and font size: Arial, 10 point.

Before submitting your assignment, review the scoring guide in the Resources. Your assignment is due at the end of this unit.
