Intervention Treatment Plan

Assignment 4: Intervention Treatment Plan

According to the Counsel on Social Work Education, Competency 4: Engage In Practice-informed Research and Research-informed Practice:

Social workers understand quantitative and qualitative research methods and their respective roles in advancing a science of social work and in evaluating their practice. Social workers know the principles of logic, scientific inquiry, and culturally informed and ethical approaches to building knowledge. Social workers understand that evidence that informs practice derives from multi-disciplinary sources and multiple ways of knowing. They also understand the processes for translating research findings into effective practice.

Walden’s MSW program expects students in their specialization year to be able to:

· Critically evaluate evidence based and “best practice” treatment interventions.

· Compose clinical intervention plans that are grounded research-based knowledge

This assignment is intended to help students demonstrate the behavioral components of this competency in their field education

.

To Prepare: Review the agency’s intervention/treatment plan used to engage clients. After reviewing the agency’s intervention/treatment plan, consult the literature and conduct extensive research, with the goal of finding best practices that supports or adds to the agency’s current intervention/treatment plan. The purpose of this assignment is to find research that supports or adds to the agency’s current intervention/treatment approach.

Submit a 1-2 page paper in which you:

1. Briefly describe the agency’s intervention/treatment plan

2. Briefly discuss best practices about interventions identified in the literature

3. Briefly discuss how the agency can incorporate those best practices into the current intervention/treatment plan

4. Provide a brief summary of the similarities and differences between the intervention/treatment plan used at the agency and the suggested practices in the literature

Note: If no formal process is used in the agency, discuss the agency’s current process and compare it to the suggestions in the literature.

Discussion: Healing as a Form of Intervention

A psychotherapeutic intervention is a treatment that addresses a physical problem, a mental problem, or both. Psychotherapeutic interventions are targeted differently in non-Western cultures. In Western cultures, such interventions tend to focus on the mind. They are separate from medicine, which focuses on the body. Psychotherapeutic interventions in non-Western cultures (referred to as “traditional cultures” in your text) often are identified as healing and focus on the health of the whole person rather than on addressing an individual problem. In non-Western cultures, medical interventions are not separated clearly from psychotherapeutic interventions.

The use of psychotherapeutic interventions in different parts of the world is influenced by both society and culture. Your text refers to these influencers as “the sociocultural context.” The term sociocultural context includes such factors as religion, community beliefs about health and illness, rituals such as initiation or purification ceremonies, and relationships with family.

To prepare for this Discussion:

· Review Chapter 8 in your course text, paying particular attention to the section on psychotherapy in its sociocultural context. Review non-Western healing therapies such as Morita, Naikan, and Zen.

· Review the articles: “Buddhist psychotherapy” and “The effect of yoga on functional recovery level in schizophrenic patients.”

· Review this week’s media about psychotherapy in Argentina. You may wish to view the clips more than once and take notes.

· Select a non-Western psychotherapeutic intervention and think about how that intervention is an expression of its sociocultural context.

· Consider the similarities and differences between the psychotherapeutic intervention you selected and psychotherapeutic interventions in Western cultures.

· Using the Walden University library, search and find one current peer-reviewed article that reports on a psychotherapeutic intervention practiced in traditional cultures.

With these thoughts in mind:

By Day 3

Post a description of the non-Western psychotherapeutic intervention you selected. Explain two ways in which this intervention is an expression of its sociocultural context. Finally, explain two similarities and two differences between the psychotherapeutic intervention you selected and psychotherapeutic interventions in Western cultures.

Note: Identify the psychotherapeutic intervention in the first line of your post. You will be asked to respond to a colleague who selected a psychotherapeutic intervention that you did not.

What social and cultural issues impact the legal and social consequences of this behavior?

Unit 3 Assignment 1

Impact of Addictions

For this assignment, select a specific substance use disorder or gambling to be your focus. The assignment focus is independent of the other two unit assignments that you will develop later in this course.

Research the history of this addiction and analyze how the history impacts theory and treatment for this addiction. This analysis of the historical context serves as an introduction to current issues to be addressed. Next, analyze the impact of this substance use (or gambling) on the individual, family, and community by reviewing relevant scholarly sources. Your analysis should address the following points:

· How does the impact of this behavior on an individual contribute to establishing a pattern of use that may escalate to addiction (meeting the criteria for a moderate or a severe specifier in DSM-5)?

· What social and cultural issues impact the legal and social consequences of this behavior? How might the consequences differ depending on the client’s age, race or ethnicity, gender, or socioeconomic class? (Select at least two to synthesize in your response.)

· How do these behaviors likely impact intimate and family relationships across the lifespan?

Follow these assignment requirements:

Written Communication: Written communication is thoughtful and free of errors that detract from the overall message.

APA formatting: Resources and citations are formatted according to APA (6th edition) style and formatting.

Number of resources: Minimum of six scholarly sources. Distinguished submissions will likely exceed this number.

Length of paper: 6–8 typed, double-spaced pages, plus title page and references.

Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.

Unit 3 Discussion 1

Stimulants Versus Depressants

Read the Discussion Participation Scoring Guide to learn how the instructor will evaluate your discussion participation throughout this course.

Select a specific central nervous system stimulant drug and a depressant drug or substance to compare. Using the basic pharmacological principles outlined in the Lewis text, rate the level of risk associated with the use of each substance to help explain how someone abusing the drug or overcoming tolerance might be motivated to increase the availability of the drug to their brain through the route of administration. Present an argument for which drug is more dangerous to the individual, family, or community. Consider examples from the Psy8430: Portrait of Addiction video viewed in Unit 2 to provide real-world implications.

Response Guidelines

Respond to the main discussion posts of two learners. What reactions do you have to the ideas they have presented? Include examples from the course readings or your own experience to support your perspective, and raise questions to continue the dialogue.

Decision-Making

Our text suggests that objective reality is often significantly different from perceived reality and is an important variable to consider when making decisions within an organization. In addition, attribution theory describes how people create the explanations for their own and others’ actions, as well as the outcomes of the applied behaviors. Based on these two premises, consider the following and then, formulate an analysis about how attribution theory and bias (according to chapter 8 in our text) can explain human behaviors within organizations and industry.

  • Use, or closely follow, this template for your paper.
  • Consider the following information      associated with attribution theory to support to your writing about      decision-making:
  • perceptions
  • bounded       reality
  • cognitive       biases
  • conjunction       fallacy
  • consistency
  • consensus
  • distinctiveness
  • fundamental       attribution error
  • creative       decision making
  • Writing Content
  • Decision-Making
  • Based on        our content this week, discuss the importance of rationale        decision-making in an organization, using necessary citations. Include        how bounded reality, cognitive biases, and conjunction fallacy might        affect decision-making.
  • Attribution Theory
  • Explain        attribution theory using necessary citations. Include a discussion about        the effects of consistency, consensus, distinctiveness, and fundamental        attribution error. Consider inclusion about the effects of perception,        primacy and recency effects, selective perceptions, contrast effect,        stereotyping to further support your discussion.
  • Personal Experience:       Inaccurate Judgement
  • Based on        our content this week, consider your own experiences with others. Have        your actions ever been judged inaccurately by a person such as a boss, a        peer, or a family member? How could this experience support your thesis        about whether or not attribution theory and bias affect human behaviors        with organization?
  • Can        self-serving, or other, bias affect one’s perception of a behavior?
  • Creative Decision Making
  • Explain how        creative decision-making can improve our ability to make better        decisions, considering the numerous obstacles to do so. Include an        analysis about how good decision making can potentially affect        productivity and job satisfaction.

Writing considerations:

  1. The introduction paragraph      should introduce your topic and clearly explain what the paper will      address.
  2. Headings can be used to      organize your information. See template (Each heading should include at      least two paragraphs – minimum.)
  3. Each paragraph should make a      point which can be linked back to your introduction paragraph. Design the      topic sentence to embody what the paragraph will entail.
  4. The most important      consideration in the body paragraphs is the argument that you want to      develop (is or is not perceptions, attribution theory and bias      applicable?) in response to the topic (applicability of perception,      attribution theory and bias). This argument is developed by making and      linking points in and between paragraphs.
  5. The conclusion paragraph should      restate your thesis (your suggestion that perceptions, attribution theory      and bias does or does not apply to human behaviors in organizations.)

Your assignment should be a minimum of five to six double-spaced pages, and should adequately discuss the topic, demonstrate maturating self-awareness, and include at least one peer-reviewed source, in addition to your text. Use the rubric to check for thoroughness. Include frequent citation to resources.
