Types Of Communication Table

PHI-105 Types of Communication Table

In order to write a quality persuasive essay that incorporates critical thinking, you must include a mixture of informative, explanatory, and persuasive statements because to persuade someone you must:

a)      Inform them about the topic

b)      Explain your argument

c)      Persuade your audience to your point of view.

Directions:

1.      Use the table below to do the following:

a)      Choose a concept and write an informative statement, an explanatory statement, and a persuasive statement for the concept in the appropriate boxes. An example has been completed for you in red.

b)      In part b of the table, select a concept from the draft of your persuasive essay and provide an example of one informative statement, one explanatory statement, and one persuasive statement based on the concept you chose.

c)      As discussed in the module lecture, language is intertwined with critical thinking. In part c of the table, in 200-250 words explain the relationship between informative, explanatory, and persuasive statements and critical thinking.

  Concept Informative:

(Just the facts)

Explanatory:

(Description of the facts)

Persuasive:

(Position on the facts)

Example Concept Baseball Baseball is a sport involving 9 players positioned in various places on a field, who are attempting to keep the other team from advancing bases. There are many ways to score runs in baseball. The most efficient way is for your team to get a series of base hits eventually bringing runners home. In order to do this, players must have good hitting ability, running ability, and judgment. Quality pitchers are more important than power hitters, because keeping runs off the board could give the pitcher’s team more opportunity to win. Teams that have better pitchers almost always end up being the better team.
Part A: Concept of your Choice
Part B: Concept selected from your persuasive essay
Part C: In 200-250 words explain the relationship between informative, explanatory, and persuasive statements and critical thinking

Sports Psychology Power Point

Congratulations. You have been asked to create an MS PowerPoint presentation (i.e., Week 7 assignment) in order to educate youth sport coaches and/or strength and conditioning coaches about sport psychology.

Suggestion – select a specific topic of interest, which is presented in our PSYC460 assigned readings. Examples include: Goal Setting, Imagery, Stress Management, Group Cohesion, or Exercise Adherence.

Create a MS PowerPoint (PPT) presentation and include notes within the presentationThe Notes section should be the script you will use for your presentation such that if you were unable to make the presentation, someone else could present the information by reading what you’ve written in the Notes section. Additional Information re: MS PPT Notes is discussed later in the assignment’s instructions.

The Sport Psychology presentation must be at least 10 slides in length (not including the title and reference slides) and include components such as the following:

  • Title
  • Table of Contents
  • Primary Topic of Presentation
  • Introduction of Presentation’s Main Objective(s)
  • Identify and Define Important Psychological Concept(s) associated with Presentation’s Objectives
  • Explain how these Psychological Concept(s) can influence athletic performance (cite information from at least three (3) academic publications [i.e., journals – (e.g., The Sport PsychologistJournal of Sport and Exercise Psychology)]. — Suggestion – You can use the APUS Library (see “APUS Library” on PSYC460 home page) in order to locate scholarly publications (e.g., academic journals). “SPORTDiscus with Full Text” can be a useful database when completing your literature search.
  • Present one (1) web link for a video pertaining to Psychological Concept(s) discussed in presentation. — When identifying the video in the presentation, just insert the web link on the slideAPUS has size restrictions on uploads, and incorporating the video into the presentation will often make the PPT too large.
  • Identify an activity, which individuals can complete during this presentation in order to gain knowledge about Psychological Concept(s) discussed.
  • Conclusion
  • References (as well as in-text citations should be displayed in APA format). In-text citations may be included within the Notes section of each slide. Information re: American Psychological Association (APA) format is presented in this course’s Resources or www.apastyle.org. Also, a suggestion – visit the APUS Library to review Writing@APUS (see “APUS Library” tab located on left side of course’s home page).

Please be sure to review the MS PowerPoint do’s and don’ts document (see attachment). Remember, the MS PowerPoint must include a Notes section.

Additional Information re: Notes section:

Notes are placed on the same slide (i.e., beneath) information being presented pertaining to a specific area (e.g., Introduction). See “Click to add notes” at bottom of slide – notes will be placed in this area. Suggestion – use MS PPT “help” to review instructions for inserting “speaker notes” using your specific version of MS PPT.

If Notes are not included within the same slide, a 10-point deduction will be assessed prior to reviewing a student’s submission.

Here is an example:https://support.office.com/en-US/article/Create-speaker-notes-fc59586b-888f-4ebf-ab07-8a3cc8297867

Please review “More Tools” (see tabs on left side of course’s home page) to review policies concerning Plagiarism.

Please submit your assignment as an attachment (in an MS PPT ppt. or MS PPT pptx. file format)  titled “Your Last Name Week 7 Assignment.” For example, the MS PowerPoint file would be titled: Johnson Week 7 Assignment. Avoid typing your entire assignment in the text box provided within each assignment.

PowerPoint Presentation dos and don’ts:

–Include a notes section in the actual notes section of the PowerPoint which should be basically word for word what will be said during the presentation.

–Do NOT use crazy slide transitions or background colors. Keep the slide transitions simple and background colors and slide layout must be appealing and able to be easily viewed by all audience members no matter where they are in the room.

–Use bullet points on the actual slides, use the notes section for your verbiage. Do NOT have slides, which end up being read verbatim for the presentation.

–DO include a reference page (in APA format).

Why would a person believe this is the right option?

Heinz’s dilemma is a frequently used example in many ethics and morality classes. One well-known version of the dilemma, used in Lawrence Kohlberg‘s stages of moral development, is stated as follows:

A woman was near death from a special kind of cancer. There was one drug that the doctors thought might save her. It was a form of radium that a druggist in the same town had recently discovered. The drug was expensive to make, but the druggist was charging ten times what the drug cost him to produce. He paid $200 for the radium and charged $2,000 for a small dose of the drug. The sick woman’s husband, Heinz, went to everyone he knew to borrow the money, but he could only get together about $1,000 which is half of what it cost. He told the druggist that his wife was dying and asked him to sell it cheaper or let him pay later. But the druggist said: “No, I discovered the drug and I’m going to make money from it.” So Heinz got desperate and broke into the man’s laboratory to steal the drug for his wife.

Should Heinz have broken into the laboratory to steal the drug for his wife? Why or why not?

Heinz dilemma. (2017, August 4 ).  Retrieved  August 4, 2017, fromhttps://mymission.lamission.edu/userdata/beltray/docs/HEINZ%20DILEMMA.doc

Theresa, Jose, and Darnell all have different opinions about the best option in the Heinz dilemma.

Theresa agrees with option 1: Heinz should steal the drug and not go to prison, because this is unfair.

Jose agrees with option 2: Heinz should not steal the drug because he would be breaking the law.

Darnell agrees with option 3: Heinz should steal the drug and accept any prison sentence.

Write a justification for all 3 possibilities in the Heinz Dilemma.  This will require you to take 3 different perspectives on the dilemma, including ones that you may not personally agree with. For each possibility, include these points:

  • Why would a person believe this is the right option?
  • What age do you think this person might be?
  • What kinds of problems and successes is a person with this point of view likely to encounter during their lives?

Requirements:

Present strong arguments for each point of view, using a minimum of 500 words total, and using at least 2 resources to support your arguments. Your references need to relate to concepts learned about Kohlberg and moral development and must be scholarly/academic in nature.  Use of .com websites is not appropriate.
