Assignment 1: Compare And Contrast Theoretical Perspectives

Assignment 1: Compare and Contrast Theoretical Perspectives

There are many different theoretical perspectives of human behavior. These perspectives influence the way you relate to others, conceptualize the development of maladaptive and adaptive behaviors, and interpret your worldview.

Tasks:

Using your textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, explore these concepts and complete the following tasks:

  • Analyze and compare and contrast two theoretical orientations that attempt to explain human behavior.
  • Develop a detailed case vignette that addresses multidimensional aspects of human behavior (i.e., maladaptive and adaptive beliefs, recent role transitions, support networks, and familial and cultural contexts). You can use the cases included in the reading material or course room as guides.
  • Apply one of the two theoretical orientations you chose for your case to explain the individual’s behavior.
  • Be sure to consider all dimensions of human behavior (psychological, social, biological, and spiritual) and synthesize in your paper how they fit within your theoretical framework.

Submission Details:

  • By Saturday, February 20, 2016, post your responses to this Discussion Area in a minimum of 300 words. Your response should rely upon at least two sources from professional literature. This may include the Argosy University online library resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, or .gov). Write in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources (i.e., APA format); and use accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Through Wednesday, February 24, 2016, respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts. While responding, draw comparisons between the examples you provided and the examples submitted by your classmates, and provide a rationale for the comparisons.

Assignment Parenting Styles

After viewing the video Positive discipline for toddlers (For an alternate accessible resource, read the article Diana Baumrind’s (1996) prototypical descriptions of 3 parenting styles), and reviewing the Parenting Style Questionnaire, write a three- to four-page paper (not including the title and reference pages) comparing and contrasting two parenting styles (uninvolved parenting, permissive parenting, authoritarian parenting, or authoritative parenting).

Additionally, select a specific developmental stage between 2 and 15 years of age and explain how parenting styles influence a child’s behavior in the classroom and how modifications in parenting can create a positive family environment. This paper must include a minimum of two scholarly sources in addition to the course text. Your paper should be submitted in APA format.
