The topic for this second analysis is one of the most famous speeches of the fourth century, Demosthenes’ First Philippic. In it, Demosthenes seeks to warn the Athenians of the threat posed by the Macedonian King Philip II who had been weakening Athenian influence in northern Greece in order to establish his own power. There is only one side to this speech, so analyze the speech of Demosthenes and then explain why or why not he was convincing in calling the Athenians to action against Philip II.
