Beginning Outline for the Final Project

For your assignment this week, you will begin to build the final PowerPoint assignment by creating a two- to three-page (not including the title and reference slides) outline of the information you will share on the first few slides. These outline slides will set the direction of your Final Project. You must include the following:

• Title Page
• Purpose statement(s) detailing the importance of positive parenting.
• Defining Family: Explain your definition of family and how this definition will allow you to  provide family-centered support. Refer back to Week One Discussion 2 to assist with this.
• How Parenting Has Changed: Discuss at least two ways that parenting has changed. Refer back to your Week One Discussion 1 to assist with this.
• Parenting Styles: Explain the four different parenting styles. Refer back to your Week One Assignment to assist with this.

  Over the years, parenting styles have been changing from simple to complex. Comparing the parenting styles that were used in the past and the styles employed in the modern world, there is a big difference in the way the two styles differ. This has been so rapid in that technology and the means of fending for children has had a total impact on the way that parenting is conducted. One of the main influencing factors in the parenting style employed is the aspect of work relations. 25 years ago, most women used to be housewives. This gave them enough time to take care of their children at home, as husbands fended for their families. Therefore, children upbringing was done exclusively by women. Moreover, the codes of parenting depended on the child gender. Boys were given less priority as compared to girls. This is a total difference with today’s parenting styles. Women are also engaged in fending for families, some working late in their professions. Education also has an impact on the kind of parenting involved. As a result, most parenting is conducted by house helps, who are left to cater for the children during the day when parents are off to work. From the article, kids are seen as an expense, and the mode of parenting has totally changed, from the communal parenting styles employed initially, to the mode of kids being left to cater for themselves in the current world. The main excuse by parents in the current era as compared to 25 years ago is the fact that economic hardships have settled in, thereby calling for both parents to indulge in workforce, therefore, reducing the time allocated for children upbringing and family catering. Modern technology has also changed the way children react and interact with their parents, since technology like televisions take most of their time off parents.   Family refers to an integration of persons related by blood, either close or distant, and interacts through communal living or simply shares the relationships. A family is defined as a group of persons sharing a common interest. According to the current and changing definitions however, the term family refers to different aspects, as defined by different individuals. In the past, a family consisted of many persons, related by blood only, including extended family members such as uncles and distant cousins. The changes in the world that occurred called for a redefinition of a family. With this context, a family referred to a small circle of a husband, wife and kids only. The diversity seen in the types of marriages however, like gay marriages, resulted in another controversy in the definition. Therefore, a family has been redefined to imply a group of persons living together, with or without kids, sharing a common objective. Therefore, according to the American definition of a family, a family refers to freewill of a person to be associated with the group or not. Family-centered support refers to the care given to the family, by either of the members associated with the family. This may be in terms of upbringing kids, providing for the family members, or simply being there for the family to offer the required care at the specific time. The support may be in form of financial support, social support, information support, and moral support. The understanding of a family is an important aspect to any individual. This allows for one to gain an insight into the appropriate measures of providing sufficient care to the family members, especially kids. Family neglect is a serious offence, and this often occurs when one does fails to understand what a family means.
