By the end of this assignment:
Conduct investigative research using online browsing for information
Summarize information, explain, and outline a problem in their field or career path
Identify a gap in existing knowledge that justifies their own solution
Instructions
The purpose of this assignment is to develop a solution based on the formulation of a meaningful and relevant problem in the students’ field or career path. The first step toward that end is to undertake an inquiry, preliminary online research, and incorporate relevant findings into a format that meets the requirements of a problem paragraph.
1. Think of your own experiences and background in your field or career path. Have there been unresolved controversies in film production? Ongoing challenges in financing that demand a solution? Insufficient attention to Canadian films and producers?
2. Follow your hunch and explore the problem you have raised by doing just enough online research to:
Summarize the background or history of the problem
Explain why it is an important problem to solve for you and your colleagues/audience.
Outline how it has been or has not been dealt with thus far.
3. When you have completed the writing of your problem paragraph, explain how you propose to solve it (in a way that others have not).
4. Add a reference page that acknowledges the sources you used.
