Course DescriptionUtilizes standard financial tools to manage health care organization capital resources. Explain the basic concepts of financial management in health care organizations.2. Explain and apply the methodology for practical application of financial management procedures in a health caresetting.3. Explain and illustrate what is necessary for managing short-term and long-term assets and liabilities of health carefirms.4. Explain and illustrate the similarities and differences among the major approaches to valuation for health carefirms.5. Distinguish between variable versus fixed costs and direct versus indirect costs for a health service or process.6. Calculate net present value, internal rate of return, and profitability indexes given assumed cash flows anddiscount rates in health care operations.7. Define and measure total and systematic project risk in health care processes.8. Compare and contrast the choices for external financing faced by health care organizations.9. Compare and contrast the relationship between the cost of capital for a not-for-profit healthcare provider and anequivalent taxable corporation.10. Discuss and evaluate the basic principles of working capital management as rooted in controlling opportunitycosts in health care firms.11. Explain and discuss the financial approach to strategic health care planning and how to participate effectively inthat process.12. Differentiate between change, innovation, and learning within health care organization and cite the tools andstrategies for developing them.13. Explain organizational performance and the manager’s role in creating high-performance health careorganizations.14. Discuss the future of individuals and groups within organizations and the managerial role pertaining to futuredemands.CreditsUpon completion of this course, the students will earn three (3) hours of college credit.Course Structure1.
