For a healthcare provider, the decision about whether or not to participate in a plan offered by an insurance payer such as Blue Cross/Blue Shield depends on the specific advantages and disadvantages that the plan represents to that provider. As healthcare consumers, you need to make careful decisions about the providers you choose and understand the ramifications of having a participating or non-participating provider.
