What is media? Using Rosamind Krauss’s essay “A Voyage on the North Sea: Art in the Age of
the Post Medium Condition” analyze the notion of media and its relationships with individual
artists (broadly defined), spaces and the social world. You should attempt to forge your own
definition of media in your analysis and argue for its originality and usefulness. Feel free also to
reference other works on media we have read throughout the semester, but keep Krauss at the
forefront of your analysis. Apply your theory of media to at least one of the works we have
studied or to your own personal experience with media and its political, social, economic and
historical contexts. Two sentence-long citations are required and a minimum of 4 full double
spaced pages (1300 words).
