Social Problems Papers
The purpose of this paper is to reflect on and respond to a reading of your choice. Acceptable
readings include current magazines, newspapers, or academic journals having to do with one or more
of the social issues. Topics may include but are not limited to topics such as, food insecurity, poverty
and homelessness, climate change, community, public health response to Covid 19, overpopulation,
sex trafficking etc. Please use sources such as the local newspaper to gain a better understanding of
what the perception is in your community. Be sure to cite your sources.
Note: Wikipedia and Issues and Controversies may be used as a secondary, but not a primary
source. Letters to the Editor or editorials and non-credible websites are not acceptable for this
project.
All materials should be published within the past five years.
Getting Started with the Paper
• Write at least a paragraph explaining what the article is about and why you chose the article.
You may use “I” in this paragraph.
• Identify how it is related to a social problems/human services issue.
• Use APA format, cite your references in the body of the paper, and remember to have a
reference page.
• The assignments should be at 3-4 pages
• You may use the following questions to get you started:
• What is the social problem/human services issue you are examining in your paper? You
may wish to look in your book and look at how the social problem is examined in the chapter.
• Know the history, facts, and controversy regarding an issue.
• Identify specific events or situations illustrating the impact of the issue.
