Environmental sociology is the study of interactions between societies and their natural environment. On the environment sociology page by definition it’s the study of interactions but fails to mention the effects of gentrification and how it impacts low income neighborhoods. We are negligent of how drastically things change after being gentrified. I would like to add a gentrification tab to the page because it is a direct relationship on society and its environment. Ill include articles like “Wiped Out by the “Greenwave”: Environmental Gentrification and the Paradoxical Politics of Urban Sustainability, “The Rise of the Environmental Justice Paradigm: Injustice Framing and the Social Construction of Environmental Discourses.”, and Introduction: Race, Place, and Power. Blacks and Whites with similar incomes, work history, and family alignments have very different relationships to wealth. You would assume that things would change after years of the same differences in the racial wealth gap but they still exist today and create a narrative of how our system is set up. The phrase we are set up to fail has never made so much sense to me. It’s clear in these texts and how your race can determine interactions within our communities. Things are statistically better in White communities and poor in Black communities. Despite any similarities and if White families were to move into these Black communities then you will see the community change for the better.
