PSY381 Module 2 Assignment 1: Interview Preparation and Discussion Refer to the Course Project Overview in the left navigation area. Per the Course Project, you have selected a mental disorder to work on for your course project. As part of your course project, you will conduct field research on the practice related to your selected disorder. In your field research, you will interview a mental health professional to learn about the practice related to diagnosing and treating the disorder. In this assignment, you will prepare for the interview. Provide a brief introductory paragraph identifying and discussing the DSM disorder you have selected (furnish appropriate APA citations and References). Write ten interview questions that will bring out the information you need. Formulate questions that ensure an appropriate understanding of the disorder. These questions should assist in differentiating the chosen disorder from those found within and outside its parent category. Tips for approaching your future Interview with a Mental Health Professional Ideally, you will select a mental health professional in your local area whom you can interview in person. However, if this is not possible, you may choose to select a mental health professional who is located in another city or state. Some students who live in remote areas may choose to contact state or national mental health-related organizations to find potential interviewees. Such organizations include: The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI): https://www.nami.org/ Mental Health Treatment Facility Locator (SAMHSA-sponsored):http://findtreatment.samhsa.gov/MHTreatmentLocator/faces/addressSearch.jspx Veterans Administration Hospitals Locator (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs): http://www.va.gov/directory/guide/home.asp?isflash=1 The Salvation Army’s Harbor Light Centers Locator:http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/harbor-lights In that case, you would conduct a phone interview. Ensure that the person you interview has a background in the disorder you are studying.

Topic And Research Design Presentation And Rationale

Prior to beginning work on this interactive assignment, it is recommended that you review the recommended resources for this week as they will assist you in the creation of an effective presentation of your Research Design.

This interactive assignment will provide you with an opportunity to create a dynamic presentation of some of the materials you are creating for your Research Proposal. This type of presentation would be used in the professional world to request Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval, and potentially elicit funding, for your research.

In your presentation, summarize the main points and ideas for your Reseach Design. Over the course of the week, you will have the opportunity to share feedback and suggestions with your classmates and instructor, which may assist you in improving your research proposal before submitting the Research Proposal.

For this interactive assignment, create a presentation file using PowerPoint and then create a three- to five-minute screencast video of your presentation with pertinent audio that includes important points about the content of each slide. In order to make sure your video remains within the 3-5 minute time requirement, create a script for your screencast video. You must attach your script to your initial post. It is recommended you rehearse your presentation using your script to ensure that you are within the time limit and that all pertinent information is presented in a manner that is easy to understand. You may use any screencasting software of your choice (e.g., Screencast-O-Matic, Jing, etc.). A quick-start guide is available for Screencast-O-Matic (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. for your convenience.

The content of the presentation must include the following:

  • A brief introduction
  • Devise a specific research question related to the topic you chose in Week One.
  • Explain the importance of the topic and research question.
  • A brief literature review
  • Evaluate published research studies on your topic found during your work on the Weeks One, Two, and Four assignments and identify two relevant published studies.
  • A description of potential methods
  • Based on what you have learned about research design options and requirements in this course, create an appropriate research approach and design to investigate your research question.
  • Provide a rationale for your design choices.
  • A discussion on ethical issues
  • Apply ethical standards to the proposed research and identify potential ethical issues that would apply. Explain how you plan to address these issues.
  • A conclusion
  • Summarize the main points of the presentation and reiterate why the proposed research is important and why it should be carried out.

In your initial discussion post, introduce your presentation and provide a link to the screencast URL.
Be sure to attach your PowerPoint presentation and script documents to your initial post

Directions: Be sure to save an electronic copy of your answer before submitting it to Ashworth College for grading. Unless otherwise stated, answer in complete sentences, and be sure to use correct English, spelling, and grammar. Sources must be cited in APA format. Refer to the “Format Requirementsʺ page for specific format requirements.

Also, be sure to provide a title for each of your essays.

This assignment requires you to write 1–2 page essays in response to the following three questions:

1. In your own words, briefly differentiate test validity and test reliability. Then describe and explain the concepts of content validity and criterion validity, making sure to address both concurrent and predictive validity.

2. Briefly describe the importance of the assessment interview. Then identify and describe several tactics employed by clinicians in assessment interviews, including preliminary considerations, directive vs. nondirective interviews, sequencing, comprehensiveness, the avoidance of “why” questions, and the importance of attending to the client’s nonverbal behavior.

3. Provide an overview of the pros and cons of the Wechsler Intelligence Scales, with an emphasis on the most recent versions (WAIS-IV for adults and WISC-for children). Be sure to explain what these scales can measure as opposed to what they can’t measure.
