Final Project Written Proposal Draft- Part A

Prior to completing this written assignment, please review the information in the course textbook, familiarize yourself with the Final Project guidelines in Week Five, and review any relevant Instructor Guidance.

For this assignment, you will be creating a draft of your Written Proposal for your final presentation.  The focus of this draft to is to present as clear a picture as possible of your Written Proposal so that you may receive feedback which will guide you as you create your presentation in Week Five. Completing a comprehensive draft this week will allow you to concentrate your efforts in Weeks Four and Five on the creation of the presentation, with minor adjustments to the written portion, thus splitting the work into more manageable portions. Please refer to the Final Project guidelines for more information on the Final Project as you prepare the draft of your proposal.

In the Written Proposal draft, you will be creating a script in which you identify and describe at least two weekly activities for each age group that address their physical, cognitive and psychosocial developmental needs.  All three domains of development must be addressed within your activities.  For example, you may have one activity which enhances cognitive and psychosocial development and a second activity which enhances physical development.  In addition to identifying these activities, you will demonstrate a foundational knowledge of children’s developmental continuum by explaining your reasoning for choosing each activity in each age group, based on your analysis of theory and current child development research.

Additionally, you will go “shopping” for at least one age-appropriate game, toy, picture, or other “play” item for the activities in each age group. Keep in mind that this may include things like art, music, technology, or safety tools as you deem fit.  For each item that you propose, you will provide a link to a website from which the item can be purchased by the city, as well as an explanation for why the city should purchase the item informed by research and theory.

You will utilize the PSY104 Written Proposal template to create your Written Proposal draft.  Enter the requested information on the title page where indicated. Where you find the text “This is where you will…” within the proposal, please remove that and enter your own content. The headings in bold and the outline formatting with numbers and letters should not be altered.

In your Written Proposal, you must include the following:

  • Complete each section of the template including the information requested.
  • Within section “iv” for each room, you will be asked to justify your activities and items by analyzing interactions of the major themes: Health and Well-Being, Family and Parenting, Education, Culture and Gender as factors influencing the developmental physical, cognitive and psychosocial pathways.  Your written proposal must address how you have accounted for each of these themes in its associated room as they relate to physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development. Each theme must be included in at least one room, and each room must address one or more themes. (Please see these samples for ways to explain how you have accounted for this.)
  • Cite your sources according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. For information regarding APA samples and tutorials, visit the Ashford Writing Center, located within the Learning Resources tab on the left navigation toolbar in your online course. Examine the risk factors and the various protective factors that may mitigate the level of risk.

Assignment 2: Developmental and Environmental Risk Factors

There are various risk factors—multiple environmental and developmental experiences—that may lead to criminal behavior. Some examples of these risk factors may include, but are not limited to, a history of violence, abuse or trauma, substance abuse, peer rejection, or cognitive limitations. These risk factors can be further broken down into the risk of impact to the individual, family, peer, and community.

Multiple protective factors have been identified as having a significant propensity to reduce risk. These factors include promoting strong attitudes against violence, success in academic achievement, and forming positive peer relationships. There is a significant amount of literature available that examines the salience of each risk and protective factor.

Using the readings for this module, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research environmental and developmental risk factors that may lead to criminal behavior. Select two peer-reviewed articles for use in this assignment.

In this assignment, you will take on the role of a supervisor at a juvenile detention center. You have been charged with training psychology interns on the salience of risk and protective factors. This is important information they must consider when assessing this population or providing treatment. You will utilize the selected articles to support your assertions.

As part of your training for the interns, you will create a scripted Microsoft PowerPoint presentation that covers the following:

  • Examine the risk factors and the various protective factors that may mitigate the level of risk.
  • Identify any gender differences that impact the salience of these factors.

Be sure to include detailed speaker’s notes that elaborate on the main points of each slide. Also include a title slide and a slide listing your references in APA format. Include complete reference details for your selected peer-reviewed articles.

Develop a 9–11-slide presentation in PowerPoint format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M2_A2.ppt.

By Wednesday, July 22, 2015, deliver your assignment to the M2: Assignment 2 Dropbox.

Determine how you would intervene as a facilitator. Support all your answers with research and utilize 3–4 scholarly

Dropbox AssignmentRequired Assignments (RAs) are substantive assignments intended to measure student performance against selected course objectives and/or program outcomes within a course. RAs are completed by all students across all Argosy University campuses and delivery formats without exception. Each RA contributes to a significant portion of the overall course grade and is assessed by faculty using the grading criteria designed for that assignment. These are individual assignments and students earn individual grades.

Assignment 2: RA 1: Group Observation and Analysis Paper

In this assignment, you will conduct a group observation in an effort to name and label various components of group dynamics and individual behaviors. You can expect to observe and describe the group’s norms, sometimes called unwritten rulesof the group, which are formed quickly during the meeting. You need to observe the group and label various components of the decision-making process and problem-solving strategies being used by the group.

You will be able to identify how you would intervene, as a facilitator, to either keep the group on track or provide positive feedback to the group when the group is working well. The most important observation you will make is whether the group is functioning in a manner that is helping or hurting its effort to attain its goals.

Tasks:

  • Form a group with a minimum of four people to observe the completion of a task together (i.e., staff meeting). The group’s purpose is to provide clinical staffing for a client at a human services agency.
  • Create a 5- to 6-page paper critiquing the group’s functioning regarding its processes and dynamics by addressing the following:
    • Describe the group’s agenda, norms, decision-making process, problem-solving strategies, and members’ roles.
    • Critique the group’s functioning. Explain whether it is an effective group and how its functioning promotes or interferes with achieving its goals.
    • Determine how you would intervene as a facilitator.
    • Support all your answers with research and utilize 3–4 scholarly sources that are cited in APA format.

Submission Details:

  • Save your paper as M2_A2_Lastname_Firstname.doc and by Wednesday, August 5, 2015, post it to the M2 Assignment 2 RA 1 Dropbox.

RA 1 is worth 200 points and will be graded according to the following rubric.

Explain how quantitative and qualitative strategies and methods/procedures are similar and different.

Qualitative Research Design and Methods

As you did last week, you will begin this week with a general examination of qualitative strategies and methods in this Discussion, along with a comparison of those methods to the quantitative strategies studied last week.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review Chapter 9 in the course text, Research Design and the “Qualitative Methods: Examples” media segment.
  • Explain how quantitative and qualitative strategies and methods/procedures are similar and different.
  • Determine which kinds of research questions would be served by a qualitative strategy of inquiry and explain why.
  • Generalize about the popularity of qualitative methods in your discipline.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 3 a 2-to 3-paragraph comparison of quantitative and qualitative strategies of inquiry.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the reading(s) and/or media segment(s) and use APA format.
