Identify and describe the developmental characteristics of the selected age group.

For the Final Project, you will demonstrate your understanding of the material in this course by developing a classroom plan for either an infant/toddler childcare facility or for a preschool classroom, based on Piaget’s Stage Theory.

For this project, include:

  1. Summarize Piaget’s Stage Theory in your own words.
  2. Identify and describe the developmental characteristics of the selected age group.
  3. Design and describe the physical layout of facility or classroom that aligns with Piaget’s Stage Theory.  Use evidence from the text or other scholarly resources when describing your layout.  (You may use a software application that provides graphic layouts like Classroom Architect, or create your layout in a word document.)
  4. Create one activity for each developmental domain.  Make sure to include a detailed description with a step-by-step procedure that includes required materials (i.e. clay, puzzles, etc.).  Discuss how each of these activities maximizes development and align to Piaget’s Stage Theory.

Writing the Final Project

This Final Project must be eight to ten double-spaced pages in length, in addition to the title and reference pages.  Your project should be written in APA format as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center, and include at least three scholarly resources in addition to the course text.

Assignment Specifications Assignments must be 2 full pages typed using 12-point New

Times Roman font. Assignments must be double-spaced and have one-inch margins.

These assignments will give you the opportunity to integrate your own experience with

class information. Please put information from the notes and the textbook in your own

words (try not to quote word for word), and then cite these two sources in the text of

your paper. Cite the textbook as (Erford, 2017, p. ) and class notes as (T. Christensen,

class notes, CNL7023, Spring 2016). You must cite either class notes or the textbook

for each concept that you reference. No additional sources are required, aside from

class notes and the book. A reference page is unnecessary if you are only citing class

notes and the book. However, if you choose to use additional sources (e.g., scholarly

journal articles), you must cite them in-text and provide a reference section in your

paper. Also, as you write, please maintain others’ confidentiality by changing the names

of people that you discuss in your paper.

Reality Assignment Options:

Option 1: INFANCY—Holding an Infant

For this assignment, you will need an awake infant who is one year of age or younger.

Hold the infant for at least 10 minutes and briefly summarize your experience. Then,

identify and explain at least three specific course concepts or principles that are relevant

to your experience. For each concept or principle, explain how your knowledge of this

information made your experience more meaningful. Some of the following questions

might help you to think of relevant course material to connect to your experience.

11

a. What physical, cognitive, and socioemotional characteristics did the baby

display?

b. What was the infant’s reaction to you? How did you react to the infant?

c. What emotions did the infant express?

d. How did the infant’s parents or caregiver respond as you held the infant?

e. What developmental theories help you to understand your experience?

Human Development

Spring 2016

Introduction

The age group discussed in this reality assignment will be infancy. Holding a baby snugly in your arms brings pure joy and adoration to both the baby and the person holding the baby. There is something so beautiful about swaddling the pure innocence of a baby that is absolutely heartwarming. The rules for this assignment stated to hold the baby for 10 minutes, it is very difficult to only hold a baby for 10 minutes. The parent of the baby was a co-worker and he baby used for this study was 6 months old. The three topics discussed will cover the ulnar grasp, infant-directed speech, and intermodal perception.

Ulnar Grasp

One of the most heart-warming things about holding a baby is when it wraps its tiny little fingers around yours. The ulnar grasp is when the baby is able to close its hand around an object to grasp onto it (T. Christensen, class notes, CNL7023, Spring 2016). A baby is usually able to grasp objects by the age of 4 to 5 months. At this age the child is even able to transfer objects from one hand to the other.

Infant-directed speech

It is almost an automatic reaction for a person to use a different tone of voice when talking to a baby. Babies prefer listening to infant-directed speech that is high pitched and exaggerates the vowels (Erford, 2015, p. 126)

Intermodal Perception

While holding the baby it was noticeable that he could focus on what was being said to him rather than everything else that was going on in the room. This ability is called intermodal perception and usually develops around 5 to 7 months of age (Erford. 2015, p. 127).

Conclusion

Holding a baby is a very valuable experience that increases the bond between both the child and the adult. After learning more about the developmental of stages an infant goes though

A comparison of the articles that identifies gaps and tensions between the conclusions made by each study.

The literature review chapter in the doctoral dissertation is designed to acquaint the researcher with the body of knowledge surrounding a given topic. There will be disagreements in published research results (tensions) as well as topic that have not been researched (gaps). These gaps and tensions are the basis for new research, and they are ideal topics for dissertation research. Adding new information to fill a gap or to reinforce a point in an argument allows the researcher to make a valid contribution to the scholarly community. In this assignment, you will identify several sources that can serve as the beginning of the literature review for your dissertation topic.

General Requirements:

Use the following information to ensure successful completion of the assignment:

• Instructors will be using a grading rubric to grade the assignments. It is recommended that learners review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment in order to become familiar with the assignment criteria and expectations for successful completion of the assignment.

• Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their writing assignments. The APA Style Guide is located in the Student Success Center.

Directions:

Identify five scholarly sources on your intended dissertation topic. Write a paper of 1,000-1,250 words that synthesizes the information contained in these sources. Include the following in your synthesis:

1. A brief summary of the primary research questions, purpose, limitations, and results of each article.

2. A comparison of the articles that identifies gaps and tensions between the conclusions made by each study.

3. A summary that proposes a specific direction for your research topic based on the gaps and tensions identified.

4MAT Review

COUN 506

4MAT Review Instructions

The 4MAT Review is a way of responding to readings, lectures, and life experiences that requires you, the learner, to interact with new ideas on several levels. You will write 1 review for the McMinn textbook. In preparing your 4MAT Reviews, use each of the 4 sections listed below with corresponding Level One headings in current APA format:

1. Provide a title page including only your name, the paper title (referring to the book title), and the institutional affiliation (Liberty University). Keep in mind that current APA standards recommend the title length not exceed 12 words. All pages must include a running head and page number, and all pages are double spaced.

2. Summary: After introducing the name of the book and author, summarize the book in approximately 2 pages. Be appropriately concise but also be adequately complete in your ideas. Prove that you comprehend the main ideas by writing a clear and succinct summary. The summary is not a commentary or listing of topics but rather a discussion of the core ideas (main ideas) in the entire book. If you miss the main ideas, you lack an understanding of the complete message of the book. The summary provides the foundation for the rest of your 4MAT paper. Cite the book in-text at least once per paragraph and include page numbers for direct quotations.

3. Concrete Responses: Be vulnerable. In approximately 1 page, write about a personal life episode that this book triggered in your memory. Relate your story in first person, describing action and quoting exact words you remember hearing or saying. In the teaching style of Jesus, this is your own parable, case study, or personal connection to the main ideas of the book. Your comments in this section need to be clearly tied to main points from the book, not tangential ideas. Connect your comments to the main points for the reader.

4. Reflection: This section is a short critique or evaluation of the author’s main ideas; include positives/negatives and strengths/weaknesses. You should consider new questions that arose for you in response to what you have read and explore concerns, implications, etc. Provide this critique in approximately 1 page (sometimes additional length may be needed to provide an adequate critique).

5. Action: What are you going to do about it? Develop action steps based on the core points of the book. This section must be a description of how the main ideas will affect your counseling. What professional changes will you implement and share with others? Be precise in summarizing your action steps and clearly connect your action steps to main points from the book. This section must be 1 page or less.

6. You are also required to create a references page; on this page, you must provide the complete reference citation for the book in compliance with current APA standards.

Create and submit these assignments in a Microsoft Word document; these assignments must be written at the graduate-level and must be in current APA format.

Note: Use quotations strategically and sparingly; in a paper this size, do not use longer (block) quotations.

Submit the 4MAT Review on the McMinn textbook via SafeAssign by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of Module/Week 7.
