Response Guidelines

Read your peers’ discussion posts and respond to at least two of them. Does their selected model help your peers’ apply the expectations set for writing in the field of psychology? What did you learn from your Smarthinking experience that could help your peers further develop their writing proficiency? What strategies might help your peers connect writing to their vision and goals for a future career? What strategies or resources have you discovered in your own exploration that would help your peers reach their writing goals?

Be sure to provide substantive responses to help your peers build on their learning and reference any relevant assigned readings, additional resources, or professional literature to support your response.

The article that I have found to be the most informational in my research and that I would like to emulate is by Woo and Leon (2013). The flow that the article has was easy to understand and very informational. The article touched base on the different ways to use environmental enrichment treatments in the treatment of Autistic patients. The article gave a brief history and explanation of certain treatments and then what they used. The discussion section of the article is where they compared their treatment to those of the different treatments that are being used today and why they believe that their treatment was more effective. At the end of the article they had a “future studies” section stating what they felt needed extra work and attention and where they think the study will go.

As far as an actual outline to follow I use the APA Manual and my Easy Guide to APA style book from a previous class. Between those two books I can generally figure out what I need to do. I am still not perfect but much better than I was even a few months ago.

This model is relevant, because it is in the same field and wheel house as what I will be studying and researching in the future. I have used this specific article for multiple papers already because it has such a plethora of knowledge and both of the books are solid guidelines for any psychology student to follow.

The only place that I will be using writing to further my career will be to achieve the funding for my research that I want to conduct and then to share the knowledge that I have gained from my research. At this time I only have one major research project that I want to conduct, and once that has been completed I want to teach others what I have learned and use that knowledge to treat those I researched for.

I have not yet received my review from smart thinking so I will make an addendum to this post in the form of a response to myself here once I have gotten a review from them. As a precursor to it I believe that my strengths are following the proper form for a scholarly paper, using proper in text citation for the citation itself, and having a good flow to my work. My down falls are being able to paraphrase properly and understanding when and where parentheses are used if they are ever used in APA. That one still gets me. In the future I will continue to use the writing center as a resource and I have others read my papers to help in editing. My strategy is that you can never have too many eyes going through your work to make sure it makes sense, has proper flow,  proper punctuation, and is grammatically correct.
