Analyzing The Music Industry Through Feminist Theorists

I will include my papers I have written over the semester that you can get ideas from and reword for this paper.

You will also be able to find 8 of the 5 theorists she requires in my papers and a summary of what they stood for.

Final Paper (70 points)Write an 8 page paper (8 pages of text, include a bibliography at the end) that explores course readings and themes in greater detail. Develop an original thesis and support your argument with the texts from the course. In the paper you should:

  1. Use at least 5 theorists from course readings to analyze some aspect of popular culture, daily life or social interactions, politics, literature, art, etc. Develop an original thesis statement and support your argument.
  2. Take issue with a theory or theorist we have read.  In this case, you will need to use other sources (in addition to the one you critique, either from course readings or from outside sources) to back up your claims.
  3. Put two or more theorists from course readings in conversation with one another to expand on or develop a key debate within feminist theory.

DETAILS

Based on the general description of the final paper on the syllabus, as well as the detailed approach to Critical Response papers, keep the grade criteria below in mind as you create your final papers.

REMINDER: Please write a paper on a topic YOU are genuinely exited about. Also, keep in mind your REAL BAD NEWS citations should engage communities (agencies/organizations, scholars, libraries, legal issues) you are interested in communicating with in the future.

CONTENT (25 points) Use at least 5 theorists from course readings to analyze some aspect of popular culture, daily life or social interactions, politics, literature, art, etc. Develop an original thesis statement and support your argument. Weave in themes from your Critical Response papers, but do not simply just combine the papers as they are. Develop an argument and use the former papers (or new info from course readings) as evidence to support your main idea. This is basis of your work.

STRUCTURE (25 points)Of the five theorists, put two or more of them from course readings in conversation with one another to expand on or develop a key debate within feminist theory. Though you will reference several theorists from the course, focus on two main thinkers to represent your exploration of a topic related to your present or future academic/professional interests.

SOURCES (20 points)Take issue with a theory or theorist we have read.  In this case, you will need to use other sources (in addition to the one you critique, either from course readings or from outside sources) to back up your claims. Incorporate the REAL BAD NEWS source types to supplement your analysis of the course reading. Of the 15 source types listed on the source guide, use at least 10 types.

Critical Response Paper: Intersectionality

WGSS3010/ Fall 2020/ Prof Stephanie Evans

We’re Better Together

Intersectionality creates an atmosphere that most people would want to be a part of. It helps us gain more knowledge while also recognizing the struggles that other groups are facing daily. An intersectionality society would help people become more sensitive to others situations because it is more talked about conversation whether it be about race, gender, sexuality, or class. Kimberlé Crenshaw and The Combahee River Collective examines the black woman’s intersecting experience of discrimination with both sex and race.

In “Mapping the margins: Intersectionality, Identity Politics, and Violence against Women of Color” Crenshaw argues that black women face the problems of sexism, but that is not the only fight they are fighting, because along with that they face the issues of racism. She explores a more specific issue around the violence that black women face throughout this reading, to ensure that she people understand how the two of these are not mutually exclusive regarding women of color. “Although racism and sexism readily intersect in the lives of real people they seldom do in feminist and anti-racist practices.”(Crenshaw, 1) Some of the evidence that Crenshaw uses throughout is experiences of women in shelters, the Marriage Fraud Amendments, rape, domestic violence, statistics, etc. All of these things help this reading feel relatable to those reading and when things are relatable and things that people have seen first-hand, it helps the writer become more credible and also keeps people interested in what she has to say regardless of how long. I completely agree with Crenshaw’s argument because often times we as people get caught up in the major discriminations that we face that we forget to focus on all the other ways we are being oppressed. It’s important to be able to distinguish the two, because not everyone deals with the same one or all the numerous ones that one can face.

In “A Black Feminist Statement” the Combahee River Collective focuses on being a black feminism and using those experiences to further develop their idea of intersectionality. I believe that the main evidence that these women use, is the experience identifying as black lesbian women. They also dive into the women who came before that contributed to this sort of ideology stating that, “A black feminist presence has evolved most obviously in connection with the second wave of the American women’s movement beginning in the late 1960s.”(Combahee River Collective, 116) This is honestly the strongest evidence that can be used in my opinion because who can speak on the experiences of these women better than women who live in it every day. I agree with their view on intersectionality and the thought that we have to destruct imperialism, capitalism, and patriarchy in order to see real progress in our society.

In the music industry I believe the idea of intersectionality is one that is not talked about enough. If they were all to come together, it would definitely be a completely different outlook on a lot of things that we see in the media. Even if we as people lived in a complete intersectional society, the bash that they receive would ease up a lot. People like Cardi B, Meg the Stallion, A1, Young Thug, Lil Uzi, and the list could truly go on, would not get the backlash that they do for the things that they do. They would not experience it because people would be understanding to the different discriminations that they are already facing as black people in America, as black women in America, as black women who are sexually liberated in America.

Analyzing The Music In One Complete Feature Film

1500 word paper analyzing the music of one complete feature film of your choice.

Choose one complete film of your choice either current or older and write about its music. Taking into account many of the items in Unit One as a template for analyses. Write about specific scenes of your choosing and discuss the musical content and why the composer made this particular musical choice. Also, what influenced this composer in his approach to composing that may have been important in his scoring decisions; characters, script, editing and the overall impact of style and image. Also, feel free to discuss any musical items in the score that may have not worked as well as it could have and tell why. Please cite all references used in your research.

Influencing Others

As  John Ullmen (2017) instructed in his short video (Links to an external site.) : Think of someone in your life who’s had a significant positive influence on you. Maybe It’s a parent, a coach, a teacher, or a friend. Maybe they encouraged you to believe in yourself or empowered you to do things you didn’t know you could. Who are these people to you?

Pick one of them and answer the following four questions.

1. Who is this very special person in your life? Why do you choose them as one of your biggest positive influencers?

2. What did they specifically do that you found so meaningful.

3. What are the results of their actions on you and your life.

4. Going forward, what are some things you can do for yourself and for others to honor this person’s contribution to you?
