Explain any treatment strategies that would support your argument.

Discussion Assignment

Assignment 2: Eating Disorders

Biological causal factors of anorexia nervosa include genetic predisposition, serotonin regulation, and physiologic weight set points. Given the prevalence of this disorder, it seems unlikely that biological causes alone could account for it.
Research eating disorders using your textbook and the Argosy University online library resources. Based on your research, respond to the following:

  • Comment on the relative strengths of biological causes compared to sociological or individual causes. Consider the types of anorexia nervosa in your argument.
  • Explain any treatment strategies that would support your argument.
  • Does obesity share anything in common with anorexia nervosa? Consider obesity causal factors and whether obesity is truly a mental disorder.

Write your initial response in 3–4 paragraphs. If you refer to research information, cite sources applying APA standards.

By Sunday, March 22, 2015, post your response to the appropriate Discussion Area. Through Wednesday, March 25, 2015, review and comment on at least two peers’ responses.

Which other strategies can Fred employ to reduce the likelihood of groupthink during the meeting?

According to Irving Janis (1972), groupthink is the process by which we conform to others’ decisions even when we individually disagree with these decisions.

Imagine that Fred is the manager of a bookstore, and the sales of books have slowed in recent months. Fred decides to meet with his employees to find ways to reduce expenses and increase sales.

To reduce the possibility of groupthink before the start of the meeting, Fred encourages everyone to speak up with their opinions—no matter what those opinions are.

    • Discuss why groupthink takes place. What characteristics of a group most often lead to groupthink?

    • Do you agree with Fred’s strategy to reduce the likelihood that groupthink will occur?

  • Which other strategies can Fred employ to reduce the likelihood of groupthink during the meeting?

Explain some methods you can use to cope with these impairments.

Answer the following 2 questions

1.Visual perception is complicated because people’s cognitive systems are not adept at analyzing visual stimuli. To resolve visual ambiguities, people make unconscious assumptions that resolve the ambiguities. What are some examples of visual ambiguities that you have encountered today? What type of cognitive assumptions did you make to solve them?

2.perception involves identifying things through one’s senses. Unfortunately, each of the senses can be impaired. Discuss how perception can be impaired. Explain some methods you can use to cope with these impairments.

Case Study In Managing Relationship In Research Study

The psychology profession brings practitioners into intimate contact with the individuals with which they work. Because of the resulting vulnerability this engenders, it is imperative that psychology students and professionals practice ethical decision-making strategies for ensuring boundaries when resolving conflicts related to multiple relationships.

For this Application, read the following case study:

You are in your sixth year teaching undergraduate psychology. You teach abnormal psychology course every term, and through students’ reflective papers, you learn a great deal about their backgrounds. Every year, it seems that a particular student becomes attached to you, frequently attending your open office hours and lingering to talk to you long after the official open office period is over. This year is no different. One young lady, Laura, frequently comes to you after class to ask questions about Applications. One afternoon, she suggests that you go to a restaurant to continue the conversation. Against your better judgment, you agree. Soon, Laura has had several adult beverages. She begins to cry and tells you details about her personal problems. She says she has been depressed, is having trouble with her parents, and is failing other classes. You recall that one of her first papers mentioned a suicide attempt and you start to panic. You did some role-playing in crisis counseling years ago in your master’s program but you never pursued licensure or clinical training. You suspect that Laura is telling you these things because she views you as an expert and feels she needs professional help.

The Case Study allows you to applyethics to real-life situations and demonstrate your understanding of the decision making needed to resolve such conflicts. It is rare for an ethical dilemma to involve only one issue, so you should take the time to reflect on the complications that present themselves in the situations described in the Case Study.

For this week’s Application, review the overview of the five ethical decision-making models:

  • Koocher and Keith-Spiegel’s nine-step ethical decision-making model
  • Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists: The 10-step ethical decision-making process
  • Rest’s four-step ethical decision-making model
  • Jones’s four-step intensity-contingent ethical decision-making model
  • Fisher’s eight-step ethical decision-making model

For this week’s Case Study,5-page paper that includes the following:

  1. An explanation of the ethical dilemmas you perceive to be involved in the Case Study.
  2. A description of what you might do in response to the dilemma. Include the following in your explanation:
  3. A step-by-step application of one of the decision-making models provided above.
  4. An explanation of the possible outcomes for each individual in the Case Study.
  5. An explanation of any benefits and limitations of the model you selected.
