Explain some of the significant ethical considerations an operational psychologist will have to handle.

 Ethical Issues

In the traditional field of psychology, clinicians are provided with methods and tools to handle ethical dilemmas at every turn. The American Psychological Association (APA) has set agreed-upon ethical standards to which all members are obligated to adhere. In the field of clinical psychology, tools such as clinical supervision and peer consultation are clearly outlined for mental health professionals.

However, in the field of operational psychology, the methods and tools are not so clear. Psychologists use APA ethical standards as strict guidelines for the practice of operational psychology, but scenarios in national security often present ethical dilemmas not found in mainstream psychology. This assignment allows you to contemplate what unique ethical considerations must be handled by operational psychologists, how they are prepared for them, and how they use APA ethical standards as a guide to address these challenges.

The ethical considerations of an operational psychologist extend beyond the realm of clinical psychology. The APA Presidential Task Force on Psychological Ethics and National Security (PENS) report details the ethical guidelines for psychologists with regard to operational psychology.

Tasks:

Using the module’s readings and the Argosy University online library resources, research the PENS report, Division 19 (the Military Psychology section) of the APA, and the ethical considerations and dilemmas of an operational psychologist. In a minimum of 300 words, respond to the following on the basis of your research:

  • Summarize the key points from the PENS report and the primary objectives of Division 19.
  • Discuss other ethical considerations such as the necessity to be competent in other aspects of psychology, including multicultural assessment, command consultation, and legal considerations, when no clear regulations exist.
  • Explain some of the significant ethical considerations an operational psychologist will have to handle.
  • Analyze how an operational psychologist would prepare ahead of time to handle challenges that are often in difficult areas and uncertain circumstances.
  • Describe where operational psychologists would seek guidance or advice on such issues.

Discuss how sex or gender impacts the work equation between agency staff members

Assignment 1: Sex, Gender, and Sexual Orientation

One of the main objectives of this course is for you to examine your ethnic heritage, cultural identity, values, and assumptions and analyze their impact on the provision of culturally competent services; therefore, in each module, you will focus on how a specific component of culture relates to this. In this module, you will focus on sex and gender and discuss the differences between the two.

As you work in the human services delivery sector, you will encounter males and females (both clients and colleagues) who may have different gender identities and different sexual orientations other than your own. In this discussion, you will want to critically think about how sex and gender differences can impact the work equation between a service delivery provider and a service delivery recipient and also between the agency staff members.

Tasks:

Given what you have learned in Module 3 regarding the relationship between sex and gender, post your responses to the following:

  • Illustrate the difference between the two.
  • Elaborate on how (or whether) sex and gender impact the work equation between a service delivery provider and a service delivery recipient.
  • Discuss how sex or gender impacts the work equation between agency staff members. Be specific in your responses and illustrate using examples. Make sure that you support your points using scholarly sources.

Submission Details:

  • By Saturday, July 30, 2016, post your responses to this Discussion Area. Support your assumptions by citing reputable source material used for this discussion in APA format.

Evaluation of a Weight Loss Program

Please follow the grading criteria …Due with in 28 hours pls.

Evaluation of a Weight Loss Program

Many Americans believe that they are overweight, by a few pounds to a few hundred pounds. Because of this, weight loss systems are big business. For this assignment, you are to select a weight loss system and evaluate it in terms of the information about the physiology of ingestive behavior covered this module.

  • Find a website, a brochure, a popular article, or an advertisement about weight control that proposes a mechanism for loss of excess weight.
  • Document the key proposals in terms of the main claims for success of the program (e.g., restriction of fat and small portions).
  • Describe the reasons provided for the effectiveness of the program (e.g., a full stomach reduces hunger).
  • Discuss the physiological components involved in the weight loss program. Clearly express an understanding of the physiology of the process of hunger, satiation, eating, and drinking as relevant for the weight loss method being described (e.g., long periods between meals would be likely to reduce blood sugar levels).
  • Present a critique of the materials based on the module information on eating and weight regulation.
  • Evaluate the proposal and suggest whether you would try this weight loss system or recommend it to someone else. Explain why or why not.

For this assignment, you are required to cite, at a minimum, the online course and the textbook for the course. Additional sources are welcome. Scholarly sources are preferred and can be found in the Argosy University library located under theAcademic Resources section of Course Home. For reputable web sources, look for .gov or .edu sites as opposed to .com sites. Do not use Wikipedia.

Your paper should be double-spaced, in 12 point Times New Roman font, and with normal 1-inch margins; written in APA style; and free of typographical and grammatical errors. It should include a title page and a reference page. The body of the paper should be between 3 and 4 pages.
