Goal-setting theory

Pinder (2008) describes goal-setting theory as “the most powerful and useful model of motivated work behavior extant” (p. 389). Therefore, understanding the principal tenets of this theoretical framework is essential in your future role as an organizational psychology professional. Understanding the relationship between motivational mechanisms and designing achievable goals is fundamental to the practical application of this theoretical model.
Goal setting is common among organizations. However, predicting success in attaining goals can present challenges because there are many factors that can influence goal attainment. Think about factors that might be considered when attempting to explain entirely different results for two workers with nearly identical skills and training. What accounts for one worker’s success and another’s failure in meeting a desired goal?
For this Discussion, select at least two factors that might influence successful attainment of goals by employees. Then think about how assigning goals has been used effectively or ineffectively in your current or previous job.
Note: If you have never worked, think about how assigning goals has been used effectively or ineffectively in your academic studies.
With these thoughts in mind:
Post by Day 3 a brief description of the factors you selected. Then explain how each might influence the successful attainment of goals by employees. Finally, explain how assigning goals has been used effectively or ineffectively in your current or previous job. Support your response with references to goal-setting theory, and current literature.

Case study analysis

Claire is a 60-year-old Caucasian female. She has been married to her husband for 35 years and has two grown children. She has been admitted to the hospital for a double mastectomy due to her recent breast cancer diagnosis. Claire and her family remain unclear about her prognosis.
In a 4- to 6-page paper:
Summarize the patient population (age, gender, ethnicity or race, medical condition or diagnosis) that the case study features.
Describe the discipline of medical social work that you chose.
Explain the primary roles and responsibilities of a social worker in the discipline that you chose.
Devise an interdisciplinary team in the discipline you chose for the patient in the assigned case study.
Define the roles of other members of the interdisciplinary health care team in that discipline.
Explain how you might collaborate with the members of the health care team.
Explain the essential values that are common to the members of an interdisciplinary team to patient care.
Describe the challenges you might encounter while working with an interdisciplinary health care team. Then, explain strategies you would employ to address the challenges.
Explain how the challenges you identified might negatively affect the patient and the patient’s family in the assigned case study. Finally, explain how you might work with the patient, the patient’s family, and other stakeholders in providing optimal health care. Cite your response using external scholarly resources.
Provide examples of resources the social worker might use for patients in this area.

Different leadership, change, and advocacy

Leaders believe in creating change out of a spirit of community, building a collaborative vision through dialogue, and developing a vision that integrates personal and professional beliefs.
The concepts of leadership, advocacy, and change are intertwined. Leaders are expected to be innovators, risk takers, and strategic thinkers. They also need to be advocates at the local, state, and national levels, and they need to motivate and lead members, followers, and communities to do the same. Advocacy enables, empowers, and encourages members to become involved in change.
To prepare:
Think about different leadership, change, and advocacy perspectives as they relate to the agency you selected for your Capstone Project.
Post a brief description of your agency. Describe at least three distinctions in how the leadership perspective might differ from either the change or advocacy perspectives as they relate to your agency. Explain the implications of these differences on the actions you might take and on the potential results as they relate to the agency. Be specific, and provide examples to illustrate your points.
