Pharmacy orders are automatically checked against other patients’ medications and allergies, against any drug or food interaction, and against a patient-specific safe dose to prevent accidental overdoses. All of these innovations save time and save the patient from a system’s errors. All these technologies compete with other urgent priorities for funding, and future health care managers must make these decisions.
