What noteworthy criminal incidents or activities occurred during that time, and what social and economic conditions might have led to them? Could they have been prevented? Why or why not? Where do you see crime heading in the future?

2. Explain multiculturalism and social diversity. What impact do they have on the practice of criminal justice in contemporary American society?

3. Discuss the special categories of crime such as crime against women, stalking, cyber stalking, crime against the elderly, hate crimes, corporate and white-collar crime, organized crime, gun crime, drug crime, high-technology and computer crime, and terrorism.

4. Describe the history of the National Crime Victimization Survey. What do data from the NCVS say about crime in the United States today?

Before building a new power plant, a utility company must gain permission and procure the required permits for construction from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  At this time, the policy of the EPA is to limit construction of power plants to clean burning natural gas systems (to reduce emissions of CO2).  One result of this policy is the reluctance of utility companies to build new power plants. California has recently experienced serious problems with their ability to provide enough electricity for its residents because of this reason.  One result of this problem is that utility rates in California jumped 500% to 600% in a one-year period.

 

 

 

With the above information in mind, write a short essay of at least 1 page discussing pros and cons of this EPA policy.  Be sure to keep in mind things like environmental impacts but also issues relating to social impacts due to higher electrical prices.

Texas political culture and politics have produced a unique constellation of public policies. Some (not surprisingly a fair number of Texans) have held Texas up as a model for the rest of the country citing its robust record in economic growth compared to the rest of the country. Critics have countered that Texas’ public policies are hopelessly mired in the values of an era that has passed, harm many of its most vulnerable citizens, and cannot be a road map to the state’s future success.

Supreme Court Case Study Research Paper

Goal: Use primary and secondary sources to identify and determine the central idea of the concept of judicial review and how it relates to modern day civil rights cases.

How: Conduct a research project to find and include recent examples (within the last five years) where the Supreme Court has used the power of judicial review to ensure DEMOCRACY and EQUITY within ONE topic for Civil Rights.

– There should be a theme to the cases you choose (eg. Freedom of Speech)

– Best chances for choosing applicable cases are if they have to do with the Bill of Rights or the Civil War Amendments (13th – 15th amendments). (Cite your sources, use PRIMARY or SECONDARY sources only).

Requirements: Write a report for TWO recent examples of cases, using key details and ideas, demonstrating an understanding of how the Supreme Court utilizes Judicial Review.

First you will have an introductory statement of at least one well written paragraph. This will include an explanation of your theme and why that theme was something you wanted to research. (This can be on your cover page along with your name/date/period).

Details: Each case summary should include:

1. A summary of the background of the case (in your own words that summarizes the arguments of both sides of the issue).

2. The question to the Court including the Provision of the Constitution in Conflict.

3. Key details and ideas within the case (including a summary of the majority opinion and if there was one, a dissenting opinion).

4. How judicial review was applied to the decision

5. Your personal opinion of the decision of the case.

Organize this so that it is easy to follow and presentable.

(I’m thinking one page per case with a final page for your citations).
