Subj: Key Regulatory Issues from a Meeting With The NPO

We had a very conclusive meeting with the NPO that we went through some legal documents that govern the institutions. The available documents that we went through were; the articles of incorporation, bylaws, internal revenues service (RIS) the organizational budget, minutes of the recent meetings, personnel handbook and program materials. From the articles of incorporation, I found out that Ronald McDonald house charities of the coastal empire is a e dully registered institution under the law and is license to carry out its business of giving home to ill children and families as they sort out medical services from nearby health institutions. The institution, Ronald McDonald house charities of the coastal empire, is also tax compliant from the records of the internal records service. The institution is also running under the laws that have been basses in the previous meetings. Every decision is in line with earlier meetings records. There is an able board of directors that steers the operations of the non-profit organization.

The key regulatory issues that came up from the meeting are regulation of the institution’s finances. This is because the organization is dependent on donors, so they must control the way money is spent and be accountable on it. Though they must provide quality services, the cost must also be put onto perspective. Quality services should be provided at the most

reasonable costs. Again, the funding and income of the institution is dependent on the political atmosphere. Then there is stability, there will be more people to come and donate to the institution hence more revenue to the facility to run its operations.

    Thank you.

    NPO Summary Report

Ronald McDonald house charities of the coastal empire is a non-profit organization locates in south California that gives hostage to critically ill children and their parents. They are given a comfortable place to stay as they receive medical attention from nearby health facilities. The core program for the facility are: offering family homes, a Ronald McDonald mobile care and helping children to get a quick recovery and their healthy living.

In search of knowing much about the organization, I came across the bylaws. There is a law that governs the participation of the board of directors. It stated that upon joining of a new member, they are given a written document to sign. The document entails the rules, regulations and the responsibilities of a new board member. The second bylaw is that the board of directors have to annually conduct the chief’s executive officer oversight. The assessment is both written and formal. The third bylaw is that the board of directors must annually review the conflict-of-interest documents and display the financial statements. Transparency is very important considering it is a non-profit organization (Wright, 2010). By this, they can attract donors and sponsors. The fourth bylaw is that the board members are recruited inclusively and diversity in thoughts and leadership is incorporated. The fifth bylaw in board management is that the board of directors must do a self-assessment of their performance after every three years. These bylaws can monitor and govern the moving of the organization.

I had a meeting with the NPO to identify the legal and regulatory issues. The organization faces many challenges as it tries to reduce the costs of running its business and improving the quality of service to the children and families visiting the facility. The legal and regulatory issues mostly involve matters finance. The first issue is on raising expenses that are offsetting to revenue gains. This is due to the pressure that the organization being a non-profit organization faces a lot of financial uncertainties. The expenses arise from food provisions, medicines, managing and maintain the institution. The second regulatory issue is that the institution is affected by political uncertainties which directly affects the institutions. Political uncertainty and financial uncertainty are intertwined. Political uncertainty affects health insurance institutions and the donors that support the facility. Lack of political goodwill is a huge impediment to the success of this charity organization, and for any other business for that matter. The lack of political goodwill implies that it is very hard to push the government to come up with laws and regulations that would create space for organizations such as this one to work successfully. The more there is lack of such laws, the more hindrance this charity organization faces.

The third legal and regulatory issue is that Ronald McDonald house charities of the coastal empire faces a lot of competition from health care centrers that are negative to the misunderstand the motive of the institution. Some don’t believe that it is completely non-profit. This competition has greatly affected the working of this charity organization. This is mainly because the unscrupulous competitors will fight tooth and nail to ensure that they fight the charity out of them market, yet the charity may not have the energy and resources to put up a winning fight. At the end of the day, this whole fight comes at the expense of the charity organization, as the more resistance and competition there is with other profit-oriented companies, the higher the chances of such organizations failing to give the charity room to execute its vision and its mandate of helping those in need.

Taking care of injured and critically ill children and their families is Ronald McDonald house charities of the coastal empire first priority. The charity understands the plight of the people in pain, and is, thus, determined to do everything within its power to be able to help these people live a better life. Most of the people that end up receiving the assistance from this charity organization are patients who are undergoing treatment, or those who have just been discharged from hospital after successful treatment. Most of these people are not able to continue with their lives after such a situation, hence the charity has come in as the missing link between these people and their successful healing of their bodies.

From the research, it clear that the institution works hand in hand with hospitals. The institution is looking for donors that can help build a hospital that is purely for the children. This would help to serve the people of Coastal Empire area better. The institution had an able board of directors that open in matters finance to the public. This makes the residents have confidence in the institution and also attractive to donors and investors. Money from the donors is used build more rooms for the families and also buy food for the those that have been hosted.
