What are the ethical issues involved in psychologists taking a public stance on a controversial issue?

After reading the Haeny (2014) article, provide a summary and analysis of the topic. Be sure to address the following in your main post:

  • What are the ethical issues involved in psychologists taking a public stance on a controversial issue?
  • What specific General Principles apply to this issue?
  • How do the standards in Section 5 on advertising and other public statements relate to this issue?
  • What are some steps that a psychologist should take prior to speaking publically on a controversial issue?
  • In your opinion, is it better for a psychologist to avoid speaking publically on a controversial issue when the psychologist’s personal views do not align with the f

Speaking Notes Draft

SCI 200 Project Part Two: Speaking Notes Draft Guidelines and Rubric Overview: An effective presentation includes a summary of the main points in the slides, but the presenter should add additional content in the speaker notes to help explain each point. Some presenters have the the ability to memorize the details through cues in the outline of the presentation, and some can even speak off the cuff. However, for this project, you will create speaker notes for the slides in your presentation, which is due in Module Eight. This will help you consider the outline of your presentation and the content you want to include on each slide. Prompt: For this assignment, you will be drafting the speaker notes that will accompany your 5- to 7-slide presentation. The speaker notes can be bullet points related to each item on the slides, or more developed paragraphs that help you fill in the details you wouldn’t include on the slides. This choice is up to you, but either way, the speaker notes should contain substantial details that address each of the required parts of your presentation. Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:

I. Provide a brief overview of the scientific background of your issue and question. How does the issue relate to the natural sciences? II. Explain how the issue impacts the audience. In other words, how is the issue relevant to members of the audience? Why should the audience care about

the response to your question or the outcome of your hypothesis? Support your response with specific examples from your research investigation. III. Describe the empirical evidence you have to support your conclusions about the impact of the issue on you personally and on your audience. Support

your response with specific examples from your research investigation. IV. Explain why this issue is important to you personally. In other words, why did you select this issue to investigate? V. Illustrate how your investigation of the issue impacted the way you thought about the issue. In other words, how did thinking like a scientist to research,

develop a question, and formulate a hypothesis affect what you thought about the issue you selected? How did scientific thinking change the lens through which you viewed the issue? Support your response with specific examples from your research investigation.

VI. Communicate your message in a way that is tailored to your specific audience. For instance, you could consider your vocabulary, your audience’s potential knowledge of current natural science (or lack thereof), and what is specifically important to the audience. This element will not necessarily be a separate slide or step in the process. In your notes that address the previous six prompts, note word choices or pieces that are specifically tailored for your audience.

Rubric

Guidelines for Submission: The draft of your speaker notes can be bullet points or paragraphs related to each item on the slides. Submissions should be 2–4 pages, double spaced, with 12-point Times New Roman font and one-inch margins. You should use current APA guidelines (or another format approved by your instructor) for any references. For your final project, please keep in mind that these speaker notes will accompany 5–7 slides.

Self-Presentation And Social Perception

Using 250-500 words, respond to the following:

From your perspective, how does the material in your textbook on the topics of self-presentation and social perception relate to the passage from Matthew 7:3-5, in which Jesus asks: “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brothers’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,s’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brothers’s eye.”

While APA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

You are not required to submit this assignment to Turnitin, unless otherwise directed by your instructor. If so directed, refer to the Student Success Center for directions. Only Word documents can be submitted to Turnitin.

What is the relationship between t and F if both are performed for a two-group test?

Top of Form

What is the relationship between t and F if both are performed for a two-group test? (Points : 1)

ANOVA will have the lower rate of type I error.        t = F        t will have less error variance.        t2 = F

Question 2. 2. The number of sets of measures that a within-subjects F will accommodate is ___________. (Points : 1)

one        two        two or more        three or more

Question 3. 3. The within-subjects F is the non-independent groups equivalent of the one-way ANOVA. (Points : 1)

True        False

Question 4. 4. Repeated measures designs reduce error variance as long as the scores are correlated. (Points : 1)

True        False

Question 5. 5. The equivalent in the F ratio of SEd in the t ratio is _______. (Points : 1)

MSwith        SSwith        MSbet        SSbet

Question 6. 6. Post-hoc tests identify the location of significant differences in an ANOVA. (Points : 1)

True        False

Question 7. 7. The independent variable in either a before/after t or a within subjects F is always of what data scale? (Points : 1)

Nominal        Ordinal        Interval        Ratio

Question 8. 8. The test statistic in ANOVA is which ratio? (Points : 1)

Error variance divided by variance within groups        Between groups variance divided by error variance        Total variability divided by error variance        Error variance divided by between groups variance

Question 9. 9. What is the highest value eta-square can have? (Points : 1)

There is no upper limit.        1.0        .5        .25

Question 10. 10. If a one-way ANOVA and a within-subjects F were calculated for the same set of data, how would the SStot values compare? (Points : 1)

SStot for the one-way ANOVA would be larger.        The SStot values would be the same for each test.        The SStot for the one-way ANOVA would be smaller.        The SStot for the within-subjects F would contain a larger portion of error.
