CONCEPTION THROUGH CHILDHOOD AND ADULT/PERSONALITY TRAITS

You have been hired as a consultant by an advertising firm that is developing a series of commercials for a family-oriented theme park. The commercials will target family members at various life stages. You have decided that understanding Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development will help you with this assignment. Your assessment will be used by the advertising firm to help in developing commercials targeting various developmental stages.

Your deliverable to the advertising firm will be a report of 2–3 pages with your research results. You will submit 1 Word document with the following information:

· Describe the underlying principles of Erikson’s theory.

· Describe each stage of Erikson’s theory.

· Include in your description of each stage an analysis of a character that best represents that stage of life. The character can be from a television show, a movie, or a literary character from a book. You can also use a person that you know in your life, such as a friend or relative.

· In each case, be sure to explain how the character represents the stage and how the character is doing at resolving the crisis.

Please use the following guidelines for formatting your assignment:

· Margins: Set to one inch

· Font: 12pt.-Times New Roman, no bold, no underline

· Title: Centered above the paper, 12 pt.-font (Level A Heading), no bold, no underline, no italics

· Pagination: Every page; consists of a header containing a short title for the paper and a page number placed in the upper right corner of the page

· Line Spacing: Double space all work, including the References page

· Point-of-View: Third person, objective; limit perspective to research; no personal opinion or narrative; first person is allowed in describing the test and results, as well as discussing personal ways to enhance EI

· In-text citations: Must conform to APA requirements

· References list: Must conform to APA requirements

For assistance with your assignment, please use your text, Web resources, and all course materials. Please refer to the following multimedia course material(s):

· Week 5: Conception Through Childhood and Adult

· Week 5: Personality Traits

Assignment Tips:

· Erikson’s stages are not the only part of his theory. There are some general principles that provide a conceptual framework on which the stages are built. To fully understand the theory, you need to grasp those principles. An excellent discussion of those can be found in Boeree’s chapter on Erikson and his theory.

· Some key words are epigenetic principle, balance, virtues, maladaptations, and malignancies.

· You need to first discuss the conceptual framework, then discuss the stages. When you discuss the character, use behavioral examples to support your assertion that the character belongs in the stage, as well as to support your assertion of how the character is doing at resolving the crisis of the stage.

Guidelines For Research Article Review Bonus Paper Social Behaviour

Guidelines for Research Article Review Bonus Paper

The purpose of this assignment is to get you beyond the textbook and into the recent

social psychological literature. The first requirement, then, is that you find a research

article published in a relevant psychology journal sometime in the last 10 years. The

specific article is up to you, but it must meet the following criteria: (a) it must be in the

area of social psychology; (b) it must be published since 2006; (c) it must describe some

research, as opposed to being a solely theoretical article or an article that only reviews the

literature in some research area (please ask me if you are unsure whether an article meets

this criterion); (d) it must be an article located by you; and (e) it must be a different

article than the one you used for any other class requirement.

If you have any doubts about the suitability of a potential article, I would be happy to

look at it. Please note that most items you might locate in magazines or on the Internet,

although potentially relevant to social psychology, are not appropriate for this

assignment.

One way to find an article is simply to flip through recent volumes and unbound issues of

various social psychology journals, such as Basic and Applied Social Psychology, the

Journal of Social Psychology, and the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.

Recent full text articles from Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin are available via

the computerized research databases accessible on campus, and the Journal of

Experimental Social Psychology is accessible from Saint Mary’s at

www.sciencedirect.com/science/journals. Another way to find an article is to start with a

topic you are interested in and then search PsycINFO, a computerized database that is

available via the Saint Mary’s library website.

You will find that many published articles describe more than one study; if this is the

case for the one you choose, just focus on a single study when you write the assignment.

In writing this assignment, please follow the nine requirements described below, and

structure your paper in the same manner and order. In other words, it is not necessary that

you write in “essay” format—simply number and answer each of the nine questions

separately.

1. Include a full reference to the article using the exact format recommended by the

American Psychological Association (APA). An example is provided below:

Darley, J.M., & Latane, B. (1968). Bystander intervention in emergencies: Diffusion of

responsibility. Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 8, 377-383.

2. Summarize the purpose of the article, and briefly describe how the study follows from

earlier social psychological research and theory. What was the primary hypothesis of

the study?

2

3. What was/were the primary independent variable(s)? What was/were the primary

dependent variable(s)? Note that even in correlational research—where causal

relationships cannot be determined with certainty—there are usually implied or

theoretically specified “predictors” (i.e., independent variables) and “outcomes” (i.e.,

dependent variables).

4. What was the nature of the data—experimental or correlational? Briefly explain your

answer.

5. Briefly summarize the method of the study.

6. What were the one or two primary findings of the study? Did they support the

primary hypothesis?

7. Make one suggestion for further research that builds on the study you reviewed.

Explain how this would extend the findings of the study.

8. Briefly relate some aspect of the article to something relevant considered by Myers

and Smith (2015) in our textbook, Exploring Social Psychology.

9. Attach a copy of the article to your paper (or a pdf version if you are submitting via

email).

Suggested page length: No more—and possibly less—than four double-spaced, typed

pages. Try to be clear and concise.

A warning regarding plagiarism: The work you hand in must be your own. Be aware of

the definition of plagiarism used by Saint Mary’s: “Plagiarism is the presentation of

words, ideas or techniques of another as one’s own. Reference to or appropriation of

another’s work whether by direct quotation or paraphrase must be acknowledged by

proper citation. When in doubt, one should seek the advice of the instructor before

submitting the work” (St. Mary’s University Calendar 2016-2017, p.17-25).

Retrospective Analysis of Personality

Assignment 1: Retrospective Analysis of Personality
Due Week 9 and worth 220 points

In this assignment, begin by taking a retrospective look at your life history, to discuss which aspects of your personality have remained consistent and which aspects of your personality have changed over time. Then, analyze the roles of nature and nurture in shaping your personality. Subsequently, discuss possible sources of inaccuracy and bias in any retrospective analysis. Finally, discuss the reasons why systematic scientific studies are considered more valuable than individual accounts.

Write a three to four (3-4) page paper in which you:

  1. Reflect on your life history and discuss which aspects of your personality have changed over time and which aspects have stayed consistent.
  2. Based on your retrospective analysis, describe the roles of nature and nurture in shaping your personality. Reflect on your justification for distinguishing between nature and nurture.
  3. Discuss the possible sources of bias and inaccuracy whenever a person looks back on their past history. Be sure to discuss factors related to memory and factors related to cognition.
  4. Describe why the science of psychology places more emphasis on results based on scientific studies than it does on personal experience and anecdotes.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; references must follow APA or school-specific format.  Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • To keep this essay short and manageable, your only sources for your paper should be your own experience and the Webtext. For this reason, APA citations and references are not required for this assignment.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date.  The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Relate psychological concepts to real-world situations.
  • Describe the major theories of personality development, learning, memory, cognition, consciousness, development and social psychology.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in psychology.
  • Write clearly and concisely about psychology using proper writing mechanics.
