Experiments

Your reading for the next two weeks relate, in particular, to between groups experiments that have internal validity problems. What is internal validity and what are some factors that could create such problems? Locate one article or study that you feel has internal validity problems. Specifically discuss these and then offer suggestions as to how to improve the experiment. You may have to look for these examples in some pretty questionable journals or other magazine sources as scientific journal will not usually public “poorly designed studies” with such errors.

Be certain to provide the specific reference of this article. (The name of the author or authors, title of the article, journal name, year published etc.) These articles may come from the following fields: Psychology, Medical Studies, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Education, or Human Resources/Management.

Your reading  for the next two weeks includes a section on “external validity”. What is external validity and what are some factors relating to this concept? Locate one article or study that you feel has external validity problems. Specifically discuss these and then offer suggestions as to how to redesign the experiment in some fashion to overcome this issue (at least in part).

It is important to express your own thoughts in the discussion board forum. Please answer in your own words. I would be greatly disappointed to read answers that were nothing more than “cut and paste” exercises. Please observe proper spelling, grammar rules, and refrain from use of slang or profanity as this will diminish your score.

An answer of at least 200 words per question is required for full credit (20 points) That is at least 400 words total on this assignment (200 minimum per question). The most certain way to receiving a poor score on this assignment is to provide a response of less than the minimum number of words

2 Psychology Case Management

1. Schizophrenia is as much a social problem as it is a psychological one. The revolution in antipsychotic medication has helped people function well enough to be discharged quickly. The problem is that adequate support for these people is not available. A frequent consequence of this is the revolving-door syndrome of treatment and relapse. How do you visualize the role of rehabilitation counselors and mental health professionals in supporting individuals with schizophrenia?

2. A major stumbling block to longterm recovery from schizophrenia is the general public’s intolerance and fear. This obstacle is particularly crucial in work settings, because discharged patients must have some way of keeping busy as well as supporting themselves. What do you see as the role of rehabilitation counselors and mental health professionals in educating employers about schizophrenia?

Emotions

Part 1:

Emotions are powerful responses! Sometimes emotions can find themselves in the workplace. A sales person with intense passion can convince someone to make a purchase. On the other hand, an angry manager can deliver an unfair review as their emotions get brought into the workplace. In this discussion, you are asked to help your team to understand and manage their emotions in the workplace. Review the following article: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/intense-emotions-and-strong-feelings/201012/it-or-not-emotions-will-drive-the-decisions-you

Assume that you are a team leader, and your team is under a deadline to get a lot done. You have noticed that some of your team members tend to get overwhelmed and make emotional decisions. Other team members seem to thrive in those situations and are motivated by the deadline.

Based upon this article, make a list of things you can do as a manager to help your team to understand and manage their emotions so they all can be productive. For instance, what could you teach them about emotions? How would you pair people to work together? What would help them to learn about their emotions so they can be productive in the workplace?

*** Be at least 10 sentences ****

Part 2:

Respond to this discussion post below.

“If I obtained a position of power like this, I would try to incentivize each worker based on their needs. For example, I would set the deadline, but I would encourage workers to finish early by adding some time of bonus. I would also try to pair motivated workers with anxious workers. The motivated workers would most likely inspire the anxious workers. Additionally, the workers should be informed. I would try to explain why some anxious workers feel that way, and how they can redirect that anxiousness into motivation. All of these tactics would create a better work environment.”

Psych 7706 Unit 4 Measurement, Data Display, And Data-Based Decisions

Measurement, Data Display, and Data-Based Decisions

This assignment is the second component of your Assessment, Intervention Support, and Related Systems project. Before proceeding with the assignment, please review the activities in the Unit 1 studies to refresh your memory on the functions, dimensions, and procedures of measurement and graphic display of behavioral data in applied behavior analysis.

For this assignment, you will be assessed on your understanding of the following course competencies:

· Apply measurement, data display, and data-based decisions to effectively change human behavior.

· Communicate in a manner that is scholarly and consistent with expectations for professionals in the field of psychology.

In your second project component, complete the following:

1. Measurement: Explain the process of measurement you will use to analyze your case study. In your explanation, take into consideration environmental variables, available resources, and behavior of interest relevant to your case study. Remember, applied behavior analysts measure behavior to answer questions about the existence and nature of functional relations between socially significant behavior and environmental variables.

2. Data Display: Select an appropriate form of visual display of behavioral data (choose from line graphs, bar graphs, cumulative records, semi-logarithmic charts, or scatterplots) from which valid and reliable decisions are best analyzed in your case study. Remember, the visual format you select should depend on the type of raw data you collect from your case study and the primary purpose of its evaluation.

3. Data-Based Decisions: Justify how the selected form of data display will best allow you to make data-based decisions for your case study. Remember, the primary function of graphic displays of behavioral data is to communicate quantitative relations. Take into consideration validity, accuracy, and reliability of data.
