CRJ 509 Research Paper Guidelines

Instructions: The final project is the completion of a research paper. The research paper represents an

assignment that ties together many aspects of our work this term. This paper will be on a topic of

your choice selected from the list below. This paper is to be a minimum of 2,500 words, is

required to be in APA format, and must include at least five additional scholarly sources in

addition to your text. This paper must also include a discussion of the application of at least

two of the Saint Leo core values. The paper must be your own work. Plagiarism will not be

tolerated in any format. If it is determined that the paper is not your original work, you will

automatically fail the assignment.

First, you must select a topic approved from the list below, write an overview (2-3 sentences) of

the selected topic, and email it to the instructor via course email no later than Sunday 11:59

PM EST/EDT of Module 1.

Topics:

• Considering concepts from your text (Patrick), explore current research that examines the

conceptualization of clinical diagnosis and measurement of psychopathic behavior. Given

your discussion of the history of these concepts, how does the current research further our

understanding? What new ideas or methods are being offered? How might these new

developments affect how we understand or measure psychopathy, and what changes

might result? Integrate the Saint Leo University core value, professional development, in

your response.

• Considering concepts from your text (Patrick), explore current research to find a criminal

case in which it was determined that an underlying biological mechanism (genetic,

neurochemical, brain injury, etc.) caused or exacerbated psychopathic behavior. Use

concepts from the book chapters to discuss the underlying mechanism, and discuss

possible treatment implications. Additionally, discuss possible ways in which such

problems might be prevented in the future. Integrate the Saint Leo University core value,

professional development, in your response.

• Considering concepts from your text (Patrick), explore current research to find a criminal

case from a specific social population (such as an adolescent, or female, or of an ethnic

minority). Discuss how issues specific to this population affect assessment and treatment.

What were the main findings of your research? What implications for future assessment

or treatment do the findings have for this population? Integrate the Saint Leo University

core value, professional development, in your response.

Ensure that the paper conforms to APA standards of writing (including a title page, abstract,

discussion, reference page, in-text citations, and appropriate formatting). This is not an opinion

piece; theories are to be supported with facts, evidence, and scholarly research.

The paper should be of quality and format that is sufficient to merit publication in a professional

journal. Toward that end, in addition to the textbook, students will use a minimum of five peer-

reviewed scholarly journal articles, professional journals, or books from the Saint Leo University

Library to craft the paper.

Students may use information gathered from a reputable website as one of the sources. A

reputable website is one maintained by trustworthy and renowned organizations or

individuals. For example, for a conservative viewpoint on a topic, The Heritage Foundation site

would be valid. Conversely, a liberal perspective may come from The Cato Institute.

Non-reputable articles from general websites like Wikipedia do not constitute peer-reviewed

articles, professional journals, or texts. Anyone can post any article on Wikipedia as one can

create a website about anything, whether the person knows about the topic or not. This makes the

information very unreliable for academic research. As a result, sources used from these types of

sites will not be accepted.

Newspaper, magazine, opinion, or op-ed pieces may be used as secondary sources; in addition

to, not in place of, the five primary source minimum.

See the scoring rubric on the next page for grading criteria. Students will submit this assignment

to the Assignment box no later than Sunday 11:59 PM EST/EDT of Module 7. (This

Assignment box may be linked to Turnitin.)

Instructor Comments:

Create A Questionnaire/Survey

The data collection step of the research process is a lot of fun. As a researcher, you control the questions you ask as well as how you ask them because you created them. Whether it is completing a questionnaire or survey and/or conducting interviews, you can collect valuable information about your research topic.

This assignment is two-fold. First, you will prepare a restatement of your Problem Statement, explain the type of questions you will use, and describe your experience with the questionnaire/surey builder you selected. You will then submit 10 research questions of various types.  The second part of the assignment is to access one of the online survey builders to create a questionnaire/survey based on those 10 research questions.

Assignment Guidelines – Part I and Part II

Part I

  • Cover page must include specific elements for full credit and correctly formatted running head
  • On  page 2 (it may overflow to page 3) provide three well developed paragraphs explaining the following:
    • Paragraph 1 – Restate the Problem Statement from Assignment 2 with an explanation
    • Paragraph 2 – Explain what types of questions you will be constructing for your research topic
    • Paragraph 3 – Which survey creator did you use and what was your experience with it
  • Submit 10 research questions for a questionnaire or survey based on your topic – the survey or questionnaire will be deployed after the assignment has been submitted
  • If you must include a reference page, it must be APA compliant

Part II

Access one of the online questionnaire/survey builder and create a questionnaire/survey with those questions. You will send the link to 10 classmates and to me at: annie.thompson@famu.edu. Some online questionnaire/survey builders:

Recently, I’ve been considering approximately My uncle who is as of now serving time

in jail for infringement of probation. Which is the reason I’ve chosen to investigate data almost

the Parole Infringement. There are numerous reasons for me to select thi s subject in specific,

but for my uncle to go through troublesome times after getting discharged on parole makes me

need to memorize more. A parcel of times individuals goes to jail or imprison and their families

and others disregard around them since they feel they put themselves in that put. Not me I have

two uncles in jail presently after out on parole and I fair feel parole is more awful than being on

probation. I would say my particular intrigued in picking this theme would be to figure out is my

uncle’s the as it were Men that’s battled to vanquish parole. A few questions I would like to

investigate would be to begin with, what is the rate of African-American Guys who get

discharged on parole and really total it.

My another address is why when an individual gets discharged from jail on parole it nearly

makes them feel indeed more regrettable than they did in jail. This is why it takes the longest time

to return to jail. Another Piece of data I need to investigate is what are a few major achievement s

that an individual has made after getting off parole and being a free man. Whereas investigating is

looking to discover out that the rate isn’t as tall as I’m considering it is which there are a few

individuals who attempt to really offer assistance paro les. Reason Being is since whereas having

two uncles who have been through the parole circumstance, there are many more individuals

attempting to discover out approximately your situation after you’ve failed the parole rules rather

than attempting to demand when it truly mattered. Numerous individuals would say well it’s their

issues but it’s not their flaws completely since when sent to jail for a long time it’s nearly like being

sent off to school. Where every day your learning something modern and for individuals who are in

imprison their learning other ways to on how to be more of a criminal ea ch and every day. So I’m

looking to discover out are there any programs, classes, trainings anything that makes a difference

with transitioning back into society on parole and completing parole.

Discuss the various defenses in contract formation

Reflection and Discussion Forum Week 10

Reflection and Discussion Forum Week 10

Reflect on the assigned readings for the week. Identify what you thought was the most important concept(s), method(s), term(s), and/or any other thing that you felt was worthy of your understanding.

Also, provide a graduate-level response to each of the following questions:

  1. Discuss the various defenses in contract formation, stating what is required to establish each individual defense, and providing examples of when the defense may be found valid.
  2. Sly Salesperson sells cars.  While selling a car, Sly Salesperson tells the potential buyer that “this is the best car around.  It’s a great car and sips gas.”  The car has an average fuel rating.  Has Sly Salesperson committed a misrepresentation?  Fraud?  Why or why not?  Does the analysis change if Sly Salesperson says the car get 40 miles per gallon, but in fact the car only gets 30 miles per gallon?

Respond to the post of at least two peers, using 100 words minimum each.

[Your initial post should be based upon the assigned reading for the week, so the textbook should be a source listed in your reference section and cited within the body of the text. Other sources are not required but feel free to use them if they aid in your discussion].

[Your initial post should be at least 450+ words and in APA format (including Times New Roman with font size 12 and double spaced). Post the actual body of your paper in the discussion thread then attach a Word version of the paper for APA review]

[Your initial posting should be completed by Thursday at 11:59 p.m. EST. All peer replies must be completed by Sunday at 11:59 p.m. EST]

[Your post must be substantive and demonstrate insight gained from the course material. A peer response such as “I agree with her,” or “I liked what he said about that” is not considered substantive and will not be counted for course credit. A blank post just to review other submissions will not be tolerated]
