QUESTION 1 – CONCEPTUAL QUESTION (60 points)

Legislative bodies typically adopt one of the following types of budgeting models:

(1A) Line Item Budgeting;

(1B) Program Budgeting, and

(1C) Zero-Base Budgeting.

Using whatever sources you choose (but making sure that you cite the sources in full), describe these alternative models and their PROS and CONS in as much detail as you can.

(1A) Line Item Budgeting;

(1B) Program Budgeting

(1C) Zero-Base Budgeting.

QUESTION II – COMPUTATIONAL CONCEPTS (80 points)

The following budget figures are provided by the Wilburtown Health Clinic, a unit funded through legislative appropriations from the State of New Jersey, and required to follow a line-item budgeting approach. This outpatient healthcare facility has a maximum daily capacity of 100 full-day equivalent (FDE) patients per 8-hour shift. Assume that patients overflow from one shift to the next shift, with only the first shift available for low volumes, and extra shifts added only when necessary.

NOTE: (1) FDE = total number of patients treated equivalent to full-day treatment, e.g., average of 800 patients treated for 1 hour each = 100 FDE patients.

(2) Total patient days per year = Average daily FDE patients (for all 3 shifts) x Number of days clinic is open per year .

BUDGET INFORMATION FOR 20xx

Line Item Cost Behavior Budgeted Costs
Nurses Step function

First 3 nurses can provide service for up to 6,000 patient-days per year.

Each subsequent nurse hired can provide service for 2,000 patient-days per year. No fractional or part-time nurses are employed.

Staff Physicians (full-time) Fixed

There are 3 physicians on staff for the first shift, and another three for the second shift. The third shift uses only physicians on call.

$300,000 per year for each physician (including fringe benefits).

Physicians on call Variable (used during Shift 3 for only the actual patient-days serviced) The billing rate is $100 per patient-day during Shift 3.

Depreciation Fixed $2 million per year
Other expenses Semi-variable $500,000 per year plus $10 per patient-day

The health center is open 240 days a year. The three shifts are

Perspectives On Four Curriculum Traditions

Week 1 Discussion 1 – Perspectives on Four Curriculum Traditions

After completing this week’s Readings and Resources, respond to the following questions:

  • As you consider William Schubert’s “Perspectives on Four Curriculum Traditions” from the authors of your text, which curriculum orientation is most compatible with your views?
  • Which one is least compatible?
  • Which one would you be inclined to implement when you become the new school executive?

Your initial response is due by 11:55 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday and should be between 200-250 words. The initial posting should be a stateme

· As you consider William Schubert’s “Perspectives on Four Curriculum Traditions” from the authors of your text, which curriculum orientation is most compatible with your views?

Social Behavior makes learning for this generation relevant. This generation of students need to know the “why”behind why we have to do an assignment, project or reading assignment. As a teacher who was raised by the “because I said so” generation it  is hard to not fall in that realm of teaching at times.  The Social behavior curriculum also allows this generation of learners to learn in a way that is easiest for them.

· Which one is least compatible?

Traditional Intellect is the category of teaching that I fall into only because I was raised by the “because I said so” generation. I would not use this curriculum in my school simply because students would not be able to appreciate the traditions of reading older text or the traditional styles of learning.

· Which one would you be inclined to implement when you become the new school executive?

As an outside the box type of teacher I would definitely want to implement the Social Behavior curriculum due to wanting students to have an urgency for learning as well as wanting students to enjoy coming to school everyday because they will not know what to expect next with their teachers or the outcomes of their own learning.

The ISLLC Standards

The ISLLC Standards<

After reading the required text for this week, focus on the six standards for school leadership developed by the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC). For this discussion, you will focus on one standard for which you will provide your peers with information, insight, and resources. Be sure to review and collect the resources from your peers’ responses also as you will need this information for the summative assignment in Week 6*. Please refer to the following chart to identify which standard you will be reporting on for this discussion. For example, Jane Doe would be assigned Standard 1.

CHART IS ATTACHED….use Begins U-Z Standards 6

Resources may be from annual conferences, websites, leaders in the field, peer-reviewed journal articles, blogs, etc., that support the assigned standard. Through this collaborative effort, you will be able to add resources from multiple perspectives that you can later include in your final assignment. Be sure to include any relevant information including the full APA reference entry and a brief description of how the resource supports leaders/administrators described in the standard.

Referring to your assigned standard in your discussion post, respond to each of the following:

  • List one or two overarching themes embedded in the standard you are assigned.
  • Suggest one professional resource. The resource should be relevant to the early childhood field as well as “provide guidance and insight about the traits, functions of work, and responsibilities expected of school and district leaders” (Council of Chief State School Officers, 2008, p. 5).
  • Assess and describe your knowledge of the ISLLC conceptual framework and standards according to your personal leadership experience and goals. What areas are your strengths? Do you have any concerns about the standards or the framework or goals for further development in this area?

Personal – Professional Narrative Paper

Prepare

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, read Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 in your course textbook, review your previous work in this course, as well as your instructor’s guidance and lecture materials. This assignment is an opportunity to develop a stronger sense of your goals while continuing to hone your writing skills.

It is recommended that you look ahead to the Week 3 Written Assignment and Week 5 Final Paper guidelines to help you develop a narrative arc—beginning, middle, and end—that begins with this assignment and which will work toward the requirements of those later assignments. Each assignment is designed so that it can lead to the next. Click the links below to access the Week 3 and Week 5 assignments.

 ENG121 Narrative Arc

  • Wk 2: Personal-Professional Narrative Paper
  • Wk 3: Writing Skills in Your Field Paper
  • Wk 5: Future Opportunities Paper

Write

Your paper will have an introduction paragraph that will include your thesis sentence and identifies your chosen major or career path, and a conclusion paragraph that helps resolve the narrative. Additionally, your body paragraphs will be expected to address these ideas:

  • Describe an experience that significantly shaped who you are as a person and informed your personal ethos.
    • Use clear and descriptive language to evoke a sense of the gravity of this experience.
  • Interpret the events that brought you to your choice of major or career path.
    • Why is it meaningful to you?
    • Is it your passion or is it more practical?
    • If it’s a practical choice, how do your passions feed into it?
  • Provide an example of one of the major challenges to achieving your goal.
    • Instead of focusing on a logistical and time-based challenge (such as attaining a degree and/or certification), discuss a challenge rooted in the particular skills you will have to demonstrate, or a mindset challenge or some combination of both.
  • Analyze how your personal ethos prepares you to overcome the above challenge(s).
