The discovery dates back to 1981 when scientists discovered how to derive embryonic stem cells from early mouse embryos. This discovery was made due to the importance of stem cells for living organisms. For instance, their peculiar regenerative abilities make them suitable for treatments of diseases such as heart and diabetes. Nevertheless, a lot of research still needs to be done in the laboratories and clinics to get a better knowledge of how to use stem cells for cell-based therapies in treatment of ailments.
