Discussion: Estimating Models Using Dummy Variables

You have had plenty of opportunity to interpret coefficients for metric variables in regression models. Using and interpreting categorical variables takes just a little bit of extra practice. In this Discussion, you will have the opportunity to practice how to recode categorical variables so they can be used in a regression model and how to properly interpret the coefficients. Additionally, you will gain some practice in running diagnostics and identifying any potential problems with the model. To prepare for this Discussion:· Review Warner’s Chapter 12 and Chapter 2 of the Wagner course text and the media program found in this week’s Learning Resources and consider the use of dummy variables.· Create a research question using the General Social Survey dataset that can be answered by multiple regression. Using the SPSS software, choose a categorical variable to dummy code as one of your predictor variables.By Day 3Estimate a multiple regression model that answers your research question. Post your response to the following:1. What is your research question?2. Interpret the coefficients for the model, specifically commenting on the dummy variable.3. Run diagnostics for the regression model. Does the model meet all of the assumptions? Be sure and comment on what assumptions were not met and the possible implications. Is there any possible remedy for one the assumption violations?Be sure to support your Main Post and Response Post with reference to the week’s Learning Resources and other scholarly evidence in APA Style.Wagner, W. socw 6070-wk7-Assignment: Safety and Agency Responsibility

When you walk into a human services organization, do you think about your safety? What about when you prepare to make a home visit or attend a meeting in the community? As a social worker, you may find yourself in situations in which your personal safety is at risk. Although you, as an administrator, cannot prepare for every situation, you should be proactive and put a plan into place to address issues related to workplace violence in the event that it occurs. For this Assignment, focus on the Zelnick et al. article on workplace violence and consider what plan you might want to have in place if you were an administrator having to address a similar workplace violence situation.Assignment (2–3 pages in APA format):Draft a plan for a human services organization explaining how to address traumatic emergency situations. Include both how to respond to the emergency and how to address any long-term effects. Finally, based on this weeks resources and your personal experiences, explain your greatest concern about the safety of mental health professionals working in a human services organization.Required ReadingsNorthouse, P. Gangs in American Today

Review the FBI National Gang Report at the following website https://www.fbi.gov/file-repository/national-gang-report-2015.pdf/view. Then visit the FBI’s Youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/fbi and the FBI’s “What we Investigate: Gangs” site at https://www.fbi.gov/investigate/violent-crime/gangs. Use the information shared on the FBI website to analyze the following questions:How many gangs are there in the United States?Which gangs are considered the most disturbing by the FBI? How did they come to that conclusion?Looking at the reports from the past year on the the FBI Gang News site (https://www.fbi.gov/investigate/violent-crime/gangs/gang-news), what trends do you see in gang activity? How does it compare with the National Gang Report?Which anti-gang initiatives spearheaded by the FBI do you find most effective? Please explain.Write a 4 page paper answering the questions. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify as quality resources. You may research local, federal and state statues in Nevada to illustrate your point. A good place to start is the Strayer Library at research.strayer.eduThe paper should follow guidelines for clear and organized writing:Include an introductory paragraph and concluding paragraph.Address main ideas in body paragraphs with a topic sentence and supporting sentences.Adhere to standard rules of English grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and spelling.Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:This course requires use of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The format is different than other Strayer University courses. Please take a moment to review the SWS documentation for details.Course outcomes for the assignment:Critically analyze the historical rise in power of gangs and gang affiliation.Critically analyze the historical rise in power of organized crime families.Demonstrate knowledge of the numerous effects, including addiction, of drugs, which motivate the market.Discuss the historical laws associated with illegal substances.Analyze and address the supply side and demand side of illegal drugs.Distinguish the difference among Italian, Irish, Asian, Russian, and other crime syndicates.Clearly differentiate between productive and non-productive law enforcement strategies used to address the drug problem in America.Examine the activities, motivation, operations, logistics, and finances associated with the world drug trade and their relation to gang and organized crime cultures
