Risks, Benefits, and Diagnosis

The risk-benefit calculation for any drug assumes a correct diagnosis of the disorder. Many investigators and clinicians feel the current epidemic of child psychiatric disorders is largely due to inappropriate diagnosis. Evaluate the risk and benefits of using psychoactive drugs in children correctly diagnosed with a disorder versus those incorrectly diagnosed with a disorder. Consider the risks and benefits of not treating (drug treatment) a child because they are not correctly diagnosed with a disorder.  In your evaluation summarize the natural course of the disorder, the drug action on the neurotransmitter systems in question, and the likelihood of short-term, long-term, and permanent positive and negative effects of drug treatment. Make sure to take into account the ethical dimension of this risk-benefit calculation.Behnke, M., & Smith, V. C. Psychological assessment guides

Psychological assessment guides are created by psychology professionals to provide the public with accurate and authoritative information appropriate for their current needs. Information available to the public about psychological testing and assessment varies widely depending on the professional creating it, the purpose of the assessment, and the intended audience. When professionals effectively educate the public on the how, what, and why behind assessments and the strengths and limitations of commonly used instruments, potential clients are in a better position to be informed users of assessment products and services. The Assessment Guides developed in this course will be designed to provide the lay public with accurate and culturally relevant information to aid them in making informed decisions about psychological testing. Students will develop their Guides with the goal of educating readers to be informed participants in the assessment process.

Structural Family Therapy and Strategic Family Therapies

Chapter 13In describing the role of the therapist in structural family therapy, the therapist should never be a ‘player’ in the family interaction, but instead works to change the family structure without becoming a part of it. Discuss how this can be done and why it is important to not become a part of the family structure.Chapter 141. Paradoxical interventions are controversial and powerful techniques used by strategic family therapists in the change process. What are these interventions and what makes them so controversial? Take a position for or against the use of paradox and defend your position.(One double spaced page each)
