In this context, the specific organization of the Jacobi Medical Center in NY is an organization that serves a diverse area in the Bronx and seeks in terms of its mission statements and values to provide quality care with an emphasis on community support and general access and quality of care opportunities, showing a strong connection with this external environment of healthcare in the US.&nbsp. “With more than 500 beds, Jacobi Medical Center has grown into the largest public hospital in the Bronx. It offers a complete range of acute, specialty, general, and psychiatric services. Jacobi also operates community-based health care centers” (Jacobi, 2008). The hospitals serve a large and troubled neighborhood in the Bronx, and the emergency crowd has a volume per year of over 100,000 patients, including a heavy representation of gunshot wounds and drug overdoses. Many of these cases also make it onto the ICU, where the most intense level of care is given by the nursing team. This brings unique challenges to Jacobi, as well as unique opportunities, in the institutional setting, in terms of things that these advanced care and palliative care nurses need to know, and gaps that may exist in their knowledge and the knowledge of assistants.

The methodology for this educational needs assessment was, to survey staff on the ICU of Jacobi during their off times, by asking them questions about what aspects of care they would most need improvement on, or would like to take a free workshop on. This was a methodological consideration that utilized a brief interview/questionnaire conducted within Jacobi to find common themes related directly to the educational needs assessment (and also in terms of comparison with the interview results). The questionnaire conducted and given can better be called an interview than a survey questionnaire since it was conducted in a form of response and engagement.

Another factor that greatly influenced capitalism was the geographical setup. North Western Europe has vast coal mines. When North America became the largest importer of coal then Europe started specializing in the production of energy rather than agriculture. An influenced of trade and commerce came at hand, which in turn gave a phenomenal increase to entrepreneurship in Europe. Individual enterprise, easy availability of credit and huge profits were the motivations for the people of Europe.

The capitalists in Europe emerged from monasteries as these religious places amassed wealth. Materialistic tendencies gave rise to the individualist approach towards trade practices. This need to increase wealth gave rise to capitalism that fueled one of the most important revolutions of the modern world i.e. The Industrial Revolution.

Interest groups are neither part of the government nor the political parties. They are autonomous and separate entities that seek to influence public policy by promoting their interests and advocacies. Consequently, they are part of civil society yet they try to become the link between the state and society. Thus, interest groups are integral to the aggregation of interests from the grass-roots level. They organize the interests of different sectors in society and forward these aggregated stakes to the legislative system. Because of the mediating role of interest groups in public policy, these autonomous groups have important roles to play in a democratic society. They can advocate and strengthen a legislative agenda or they can interfere and weaken it.

There are many types of interest groups that seek to influence public policy. There are those interest groups that seek to articulate the interests of their members. Conversely, there are groups that articulate and advance ideas, values, and policies for the interest of the common good. Of the different types of interest groups, one kind of group that stands out from the rest is the business lobby group. It is an interest group that is highly organized in order to pressure legislators to promote their interests. These business lobby groups are not only groups that promote their interests but they are also organized groups that promote the interests of a certain private company or group of private companies. Hence, they can either be composed of different companies or they can serve clients such as big companies. With these lobby groups, companies can promote their interests to the public legislators. Moreover, they attempt to impede the processing of policies that are detrimental to their interests, e.g. policies on environmental protection.
