For the rats a daily retrieval from drug related memories at 10 minutes to an hour though not 6 hours earlier that the extinction session, attenuating drug originating reinstatements, spontaneous recoveries and further conditioned drug’s effects renewal and drugs seeking. For the heroin addicts, the retrieval on the drug-related memories at 10 minutes prior to the extinction period attenuated cue triggered heroin craves 1, 30 to 180 days after. A memory retrieval extinction process served to replicate the study to humans in lowering cravings and abstinences relapses (Ecker, 2012).

The study’s aim was to recover heroin in-patient addicts. On the first day, it consisted of actual measuring of heroin craving using visual analogue scales where participants had to rate their cravings scaling from 1 to 10. The second day saw the addicts were devolved into three sets. The first group consisted of non memory retrieval-extinction subjects, the second, was formed from memory retrievals under 10 minute duration delays and extinction while the third and last group consisted of memory retrievals under 6 hours delays and extinction. Measurements on blood pressure and heart rates were also recorded for all the participants. So as to avail more evaluation on reactions to cues the measurements were taken before and after cue induction (Ecker, 2012). A 5 minute long, heroin related, video was also viewed by the participants during memory retrieval. While under the extinction process, they were further exposed to 3 cues that were correlated to heroin, drug paraphernalia, for 4 sessions. Both stages took place over a 2 consecutive days’ period.

Following the extinction, the participants were requested to rate how they craved for heroin at that moment while measurements on blood pressures and heart rates were taken. Using visual analogue scales the crave levels were retaken in the 4th, 34th and 184th days.

Analysis

The paper will evaluate the organization from different perspectives such as its goals, demographic membership distribution, philanthropic activities, and its evolution over time. NAACP The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, or commonly referred to as NAACP was formed in 1909. NAACP is an African-American civil rights organization working to promote racial harmony in the American society. The organization’s history is dated back to the early 20th century where racial discrimination was on its peak. Stephey attributes the emergence of the organization to some racial sensitive in occurred in the 1900s. Over 5,000 spectators gathered together in the midst of a two day riot in Springfield to see the lynching of two African Americans. In addition, mobs torched buildings and businesses owned by black people partially on the ground of a false rape accusation and this incident forced at least 2,000 African Americans to permanently leave the city (“A brief history of: The NAACP”). The fact that the incident occurred in Abraham Lincoln’s hometown made the issue even more appalling. In order to discuss these events and find a best way to defend Lincoln’s dying legacy, an interracial group of 60 activists organized a meeting in New York City. At the initial stages of their operations, they were known in the name National Negro Committee and subsequently they change the name to National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The organization took immense efforts to improve American race relations. As Stephey points out, in 1915, the NAACP raised protests against the film British of a Nation, which exaggeratedly glorified the Ku Klux Klan, the three organizations fueling the notion of white supremacy. The organization blocked a segregationist judge’s nomination to Supreme Court in 1930, and two decades later NAACP succeeded in persuading the court to declare public-school segregation unconstitutional. Since the organization had been following a relatively passive protest tactics, the emergence of more confrontational protest styles in 1960s raised potential challenges to the organization’s sustainability. The company faced extreme membership declines and a near bankruptcy in 1990s (“A brief history of: The NAACP”). However, despite these difficulties, the NAACP celebrated its 100th anniversary and still continues its activities successfully. Goals and operations The NAACP website indicates that the organization’s goal is to secure various constitutional rights guaranteed for the citizens in the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the US Constitution, which represent “end to slavery, the equal protection of the law, and universal adult suffrage” respectively (NAACP home page). Specifically, elimination of racial discrimination and uplift of backward races are the major goals of the organization. The NAACP mission statement reflects that the organization’s principal aim is to “ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of minority citizens of the United States and eliminate race prejudice” (NAACP mission statement). Evidently, this groups works for the cultural development of the American society. As of the 2007 data, NAACP had strength of nearly 425,000 non-paying members (Wanda Sykes Speaks..). The NAACP has its members across local and regional chapters in every US states.
