What are some biological, social, and/or psychological processes that explain similarities and differences within and between persons?

To complete this activity,

  • Illustrate “sensation” and “perception” in individual experience from a psychological perspective, giving explicit definitions and examples.
  • Interpret the impact that different environments might have on various aspects of development including (but not limited to)
  • Nutrition and physical development
  • Childcare arrangements and social development
  • Parenting styles and emotional development
  • Educational practices and cognitive development
  • Analyze the relationship between perception and development.
    • In other words, why do we see such great variation in thoughts, feelings, and actions when biological structures are so similar?
    • What is the role of the brain?
    • What are some biological, social, and/or psychological processes that explain similarities and differences within and between persons?

To fully demonstrate content knowledge and critical thinking, the Sensation/Perception and Development discussion must

  • Appraise course concepts explicitly, applying them to your personal experiences/observations, and cite the required readings as appropriate.
  • Be thorough and specific, structuring your work intentionally (with an introductory and concluding sentence or two), providing clear context, and concisely and precisely explaining relevant course concepts.
  • Use personal examples to illustrate as appropriate, but do be sure to provide an objective analysis too, referencing required materials and using additional credible sources as needed to support your insight.
  • Use your own Academic Voice (Links to an external site.) and apply in-text citations appropriately throughout your post. For more, see APA: Citing Within Your Paper (Links to an external site.).
  • Your original post should be a minimum of 300 words.

Approaches to Lifespan Development

Preparation

If you have not already done so, complete the studies for this unit. The second study asked you to choose one of the following influential themes in lifespan development theory and read a scholarly resource (journal article or book chapter) that addresses it:

Nature versus nurture.

Critical periods and plasticity.

Continuity and discontinuity.

Universality and specificity.

Qualitative and quantitative change.

Activity and passivity.

Instructions

For your initial discussion post, address the following:

Clearly summarize the theme you chose and the main issues, oppositions, or controversies in differing approaches to it.

What are the similarities and differences in the contrasting approaches?

Are these approaches appropriate in light of what the researcher seeks to understand or predict? Why or why not?

Describe specific lifespan development theories that are associated with the theme you analyzed.

Evaluate to what extent the scholarly article you used in your analysis met the criteria for credibility, using an appropriate combination of these criteria:

Detailed and clear information.

Accuracy of information.

Support of conclusions.

Relevancy to the field.

Credibility of author or authors.

Publication date (timeliness or current relevancy).

Explain the connection between each theoretical orientation used by Dr. Bank’s and the interventions utilized in the case.

PSY650 Week Four Treatment Plan Attached

Prior to beginning work on this week’s journal, read the PSY650 Week Four Treatment Plan ,Preview the document Case 15: Borderline Personality Disorder in Gorenstein and Comer (2014), and Borderline Personality Disorder in Sneed et al., . (2012). Please also read the Rizvi, et al. (2013), “An Overview of Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Professional Psychologists,” Harned, et al.  (2013), “Treatment Preference Among Suicidal and Self-Injuring Women with Borderline Personality Disorder and PTSD,” Miller (2006), “Telehealth Issues in Consulting Psychology Practice,”  and Luxton, et al. (2011), “mHealth for Mental Health: Integrating Smartphone Technology in Behavioral Healthcare” articles.

Assess the evidence-based practices implemented in this case study. In your paper, include the following.

  • 1. Explain the connection between each theoretical orientation used by Dr. Bank’s and the interventions utilized in the case.
  • 2. Describe the concept of dialectical behavior therapy, being sure to include the six main points of this type of treatment.
  • 3.Explain Dr. Banks’s primary goal during the pre-treatment stage and how Dr. Banks related this to Karen in her initial therapy sessions.
  • 4. Describe the two formats that Dr. Banks told Karen would be part of her treatment program.
  • 5. Describe the focus of the second and third stages of treatment.
  • 6.  Assume the role of a consulting clinical or counseling psychologist on this case, and recommend at least one technology-based e-therapy tool that would be useful. Explain liability issues related to delivering e-therapy consultation, supporting your response with information from the Miller (2006), “Telehealth Issues in Consulting Psychology Practice” article.
  • 7. Evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment interventions implemented by Dr. Banks supporting your statements with information from the case and two to three peer-reviewed articles from the Ashford University Library, in addition to those required for this week.
  • 8. Recommend three additional treatment interventions that would be appropriate in this case. Use information from the Sneed, Fertuck, Kanellopoulos, and Culang-Reinlieb (2012), “Borderline Personality Disorder” article to help support your recommendations. Justify your selections with information from the case.

Describe the memory loss featured in the selected movie as well as discussing its accuracy Keep in mind that accuracy refers to the description of symptoms, potential cause(s), prognosis and actual time-course.

Memory loss is frightening. The purpose of this assignment is to make you think of memory loss realistically. Complete the steps listed below:

Engage your critical thinking skills. How accurately is memory loss featured in the selected movie? Specifically, does the memory loss in the movie resemble actual cases? Is appropriate terminology used? Is the prognosis realistic?

  • Note that statements regarding the accuracy or inaccuracy of the memory loss illustrated in the movie are to be supported by evidence collected by cognitive psychologists and neuroscientists (i.e., experts). Thus, review the literature on memory loss and use at least two peer-reviewed articles that can answer the questions above. Although your opinion is valuable and always welcome, it needs to be supported by scientific evidence.
  • Express your thoughts about how the movie could have more realistically depicted memory loss, its cause(s), time-course, and prognosis.
  • Describe the memory loss featured in the selected movie as well as discussing its accuracy Keep in mind that accuracy refers to the description of symptoms, potential cause(s), prognosis and actual time-course.

Your paper must begin with an introduction to the selected topic in which you define all concepts that will be discussed in the paper. You must also include a conclusion expressing your thoughts about how the movie could have more realistically depicted memory loss, its causes, time-course, and prognosis.

The Understanding Memory Loss Paper:
