Approaches to Lifespan Development

Preparation

If you have not already done so, complete the studies for this unit. The second study asked you to choose one of the following influential themes in lifespan development theory and read a scholarly resource (journal article or book chapter) that addresses it:

(2012). Please also read the Rizvi, et al. (2013), “An Overview of Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Professional Psychologists,” Harned, et al.  (2013), “Treatment Preference Among Suicidal and Self-Injuring Women with Borderline Personality Disorder and PTSD,” Miller (2006), “Telehealth Issues in Consulting Psychology Practice,”  and Luxton, et al. Assess the evidence-based practices implemented in this case study. In your paper, include the following.

  • 1. Explain the connection between each theoretical orientation used by Dr. Bank’s and the interventions utilized in the case.
  • 2. Describe the concept of dialectical behavior therapy, being sure to include the six main points of this type of treatment.
  • 3.Explain Dr. Banks’s primary goal during the pre-treatment stage and how Dr. Banks related this to Karen in her initial therapy sessions.

Memory loss is frightening. The purpose of this assignment is to make you think of memory loss realistically. Complete the steps listed below:

Engage your critical thinking skills. How accurately is memory loss featured in the selected movie? Specifically, does the memory loss in the movie resemble actual cases? Is appropriate terminology used? Is the prognosis realistic?

  • Note that statements regarding the accuracy or inaccuracy of the memory loss illustrated in the movie are to be supported by evidence collected by cognitive psychologists and neuroscientists (i.e., experts). Thus, review the literature on memory loss and use at least two peer-reviewed articles that can answer the questions above. Although your opinion is valuable and always welcome, it needs to be supported by scientific evidence.
  • Express your thoughts about how the movie could have more realistically depicted memory loss, its cause(s), time-course, and prognosis.
