Week 2 Project: Occupational Interest: Self Assessment

For this assignment you will write a two-page Occupational Interest Self-Assessment in which you discuss how your occupational interests and personality type, as determined by scores obtained on the Holland Code Career Assessment and the personality assessment found on https://www.16personalities.com/, match up with the career you have in mind as you are pursuing your academic studies at South University.

  • Please think about your occupational interests, personality characteristics, and skills. To what extent are these similar/dissimilar to the qualities descriptive of you on both the Holland Code and the personality test? Do you agree with the results of the reports of the Holland Code and the 16 personalities test? Why or why not?
  • How well do your personality characteristics match up to your anticipated career? Are there aspects of your personality that make your career choice a good fit or might your personality present some challenges to your eventual career?
  • Wrap up your summary by considering your strengths and weaknesses and how knowing more about your “career personality” (based on the Holland Code and 16 personalities assessments) can help you hone your skills in anticipation of your career of choice. Assignment detailed instructions: Write a three-page (minimum of 750 words) essay addressing the following eight questions. The paper should be in APA format, double spaced, 12 font, and include references/bibliography(MINIMUM 3) on the fourth page.

Write eight paragraphs addressing these eight prompts:

Part 1 Intercultural Competence

1. Identify and describe a specific issue of concern to a specific community for the focus of your essay. Choose from DACA and immigration laws, racism, prochoice/prolife, millennials, rape culture, gender equality, same-sex marriage, marijuana laws, religion in schools, human trafficking, white privilege, police brutality, gun control, or another social justice issue.

2. Define culture and cultural competence and discuss how your own culture has shaped your identity and world view related to the issue you chose.

3. Discuss significant characteristics about another culture and how and why they see this issue perhaps differently than you. (put yourself in their shoes, see it from their perspective)

4. Discuss how you have or how you might adjust your actions and communication style to successfully interact with someone from another culture/viewpoint.

Part 2 Engagement with Communities: Social Responsibility

5. Discuss your civic responsibility related to the issue you chose to write about in this essay.

6. Discuss effective participation in civic engagement activities related to this issue.

7. Describe your understanding of the purpose and benefits of civic engagement.

8. If you have engaged in civic activities related to this issue or another issue of importance to you, describe that experience. What was the purpose? What were the benefits? What did you learn?

Psychological assessment guides are created by psychology professionals to provide the public with accurate and authoritative information appropriate for their current needs. Information available to the public about psychological testing and assessment varies widely depending on the professional creating it, the purpose of the assessment, and the intended audience. When professionals effectively educate the public on the howwhat, and why behind assessments and the strengths and limitations of commonly used instruments, potential clients are in a better position to be informed users of assessment products and services. The Assessment Guides developed in this course will be designed to provide the lay public with accurate and culturally relevant information to aid them in making informed decisions about psychological testing. Students will develop their Guides with the goal of educating readers to be informed participants in the assessment process.

 

There is no required template for the development of the Assessment Guide. Students are encouraged to be creative while maintaining the professional appearance of their work. The Guide must be reader-friendly (sixth- to ninth-grade reading level) and easy to navigate, and it must include a combination of text, images, and graphics to engage readers in the information provided. Throughout their Guides, students will provide useful examples and definitions as well as questions readers should ask their practitioners. To ensure accuracy, students are expected to use only scholarly and peer-reviewed sources for the information in the development of their Guides.

 

Students will begin their Guides with a general overview of assessment, reasons for assessment referrals, and the importance of the role of each individual in the process. Within each of the remaining sections, students will describe the types of assessments that their readers may encounter, the purposes of each type of assessment, the different skills and abilities the instruments measure, the most valid and reliable uses of the measures, and limitations of the measures. A brief section will be included to describe the assessment process, the types of professionals who conduct the assessments, and what to expect during the assessment meetings.

 

The Assessment Guide must include the following sections:

Students are encouraged to develop creative titles for these topics that effectively communicate the meanings to the intended audience.

    • Instructor’s name
    • Date submitted
  • Must use at least 16 scholarly sources, including a minimum of 12 peer-reviewed articles from the Ashford University Library.
