Emotion & Motivation Case Analysis Assignment

Due: Week Seven
Points: 100Case Analysis
Joe, Stacie, and Shannon are all employees within the same organization.  Consider each employee’s characteristics below. Then address the questions following the employee descriptions.

Employee 1: Joe enjoys coming to work each day. He finds pleasure in the outcome of his work.  He believes his work helps others.  He seeks out new ways to make his work more effective, and often initiates new work projects.  He likes to stay busy throughout the day. He sometimes has a hard time if there is not enough work to do.  He has no desire to leave the organization and would like to continue to be promoted within the company as he gains experience.

Employee 2: Stacie finds, that although she used to like her current position within the company, she now finds it less rewarding. She has been in the same position for a few years, and in the past, enjoyed working on the team she was assigned. Recently, she had the opportunity to work on a special project, but this work was temporary. She found the brainstorming, planning, and development related to the project invigorating and engaging. Once the project was completed, she returned to her prior position. She no longer finds her current position as satisfying as she used to prior to working on the special project. She is considering changing positions within the company, if possible, or seeking out a job in another organization.

Employee 3: Shannon comes to work every day on time. She does her job as assigned, works very hard, takes on challenging tasks to improve performance, and ensures that this is noticed by others. She is very clear about the expectations for her position as well as the criteria for evaluation.  During annual evaluations, she hopes her evaluation scores are high enough for her to be eligible for a merit raise. One of her primary goals for this year is to be nominated for the employee of the year award at the company’s annual dinner, which comes with both a preferred parking space and a cash bonus.

a)  Select two of the employees above.  For each employee, select one of the theories/models below, and explain why that model/theory applies to the selected employee.  (Use a different model for each employee)
– Achievement Motive (3 aspects of achievement-oriented behavior)
– Arousal Theory
– Drive Reduction Theory
– Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation
– Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
b) Consider how emotions might influence the motivation of the employees you selected.  Which emotions might decrease motivation in one of the above employee scenarios?  Which emotions might increase motivation in one of the above employee scenarios? Explain.
c) How could an individual or organization use knowledge about the motivation theories and models above to increase motivation within the workplace?

Requirements: Length = approximately 2 pages.

Explain your reasoning and be sure to make connections to relevant theory and research from your studies this week.

Required Resources
Read/review the following resources for this activity:

  • Textbook: Chapter 4, 5, 6
  • Lesson
  • Minimum of 1 scholarly source (in addition to the textbook)

Initial Post Instructions

Option 1: There is much debate about breastfeeding versus bottle feeding and which is best for a baby’s physical, cognitive and socioemotional development. Based on what you have learned from the textbook, lessons and outside readings, what advice would you give to a patient who is struggling with the decision to breastfeed her 2-week-old infant. Consider that her milk supply has dipped, she is suffering from severe post-partum depression, but she has access to an excellent lactation consultant. Would you advise that breastfeeding or bottle feeding would be best for her infant’s development? Why/why not? Are there any other factors that you must take into consideration?

Option 2: Researchers like Ainsworth, Bowlby and Harlow all theorized about the importance of attachment in infancy. Using what you have learned about attachment in infancy, how would you choose the best childcare arrangements for an 8-month old? Do you think that having a mother or father stay at home is the best option? Or is a daycare best? What about a nanny? Extended family member? Other option? Explain your reasoning and be sure to make connections to relevant theory and research from your studies this week.

Follow-Up Post Instructions
Respond to at least one peer. Further the dialogue by providing more information and clarification.

Writing Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 posts (1 initial & 1 follow-up)
  • Minimum of 2 sources cited (assigned readings/online lessons and an outside source)
  • APA format for in-text citations and list of references

Finally, briefly explain how RTI can be used as a method for preventing learning challenges in students who are at risk.

Discussion 1: Response to Treatment Intervention (RTI)

Several different methods are used for identifying learning disabilities, one of which is response to treatment intervention (RTI). However, RTI is also a method for prevention. Although passed into law for identification purposes, many schools are adopting RTI as a means of identifying students who may be at risk for learning challenges through a systematic change in the delivery of instruction. Yet, RTI remains controversial as a means for identifying learning disabilities.

To prepare:

· Consider both sides of the controversy in identifying learning disabilities.

· Think about the various methods of identifying learning disabilities.

· As you review the Learning Resources, think about how RTI can be a method for identification and prevention of learning challenges.

Post by Day 3:

Compare the use of RTI as a method for identifying learning disabilities to at least one other method, such as the ability achievement discrepancy model. Identify which method you prefer, and explain why. Finally, briefly explain how RTI can be used as a method for preventing learning challenges in students who are at risk.

Create a 15- to 20-slide presentation of an in-depth examination of your selected test and its uses. Include the following in your presentation: A description of the characteristics, uses, and purposes of your selected assessment instrument or inventory, and how it would be used in the workplace

Select one psychological personality assessment instrument or inventory to serve as the basis of this assignment.

Explore the psychological literature to find three to five articles that test the use of this inventory or assessment on a specific population.

Create a 15- to 20-slide presentation of an in-depth examination of your selected test and its uses. Include the following in your presentation:

  • A description of the characteristics, uses, and purposes of your selected assessment instrument or inventory, and how it would be used in the workplace
  • An analysis of the relationship between your selected assessment and one of the major theories of personality
  • A summary of your research findings, paying particular attention to differences in the ability of the instrument to differentiate diagnostically between the target population and the general population
  • A list of psychometric properties of the test for the particular population
  • A discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of assessment methods used
  • A conclusion using a review of the literature on whether the instrument is an adequate measure of your selected characteristic, and any ethical considerations associated with your selected assessment

Format your presentation according to APA guidelines. In the resources for Module Two, you reviewed a significant level of biological information for its impacts on development. Exposure to teratogens during sensitive periods of development presents a serious threat to the overall health of the individual. Tobacco products, alcohol, illicit drugs (marijuana, cocaine, heroin, Molly, etc.), and over-the-counter and prescription medications are common in the lives of many individuals. While the health risks would appear to make the use of these substances prohibitive during pregnancy and even after birth, there is a debate that moderate use or use under physician care is reasonably safe.

In this short paper, you will select a teratogen and identify the risks that it presents to healthy development. You will construct a position, backed by research of the use of the teratogen during pregnancy, and summarize the changes in professional opinions as they relate to your chosen teratogen.
