Qualitative Research Questions

The purposes of quantitative and qualitative research are dissimilar. Lietz and Zayas (2010) stated “qualitative inquiry developed through a rich history of research seeking contextualized, in-depth descriptions that offer increased understanding” (p 189).Questions that inform qualitative research explore more in depth to what has been developed through time. When starting off with a qualitative research question it’s always good to use “What” or “ How” ( Developing Your Research Questions, 2016). On a quantitative perspective according to Lietz and Zayas (2010) “quantitative research often seeks through measurement to test hypotheses, to determine outcomes and to draw generalizable conclusions to a defined population’ (p 190). As a social work student I think it is very salient for me to understand the two perspectives so when I am conducting research I am able to explore either one or the other.

Research questions that lead to a qualitative approach usually can answer yes or no. In preparing these types of questions you can use the formats of surveys or interviews. In my week 4 proposal I chose a qualitative method and my research question stated “How does society negatively impact the progression of LGBTQ relationships?” I chose this question because I found it to be very intriguing to find out how different results can factor from this one impact. I chose a qualitative approach because I have previously read so many articles that focused on this topic and in knowing the research I previously discovered I knew there would be some research on this proposal. In collecting data I would certainly research literature reviews, interview LQGTQ couples, and conduct anonymous surveys. The qualitative method that would be most suitable for answering the research question would be feminist research. “It is politically motivated in that it seeks to change social inequality “(Introduction to Feminist Research, 2016). I think using this method would help create solutions to the question and the path leading to these solutions.

Assignment 1: Relationship Between Qualitative Analysis and Evidence-Based Practice

Evidence-based practice is integral to social work, as it often informs best practices. Competent social workers understand this connection in general and the ways it benefits clients in particular. For this Assignment, consider your informed opinion on the relationship between qualitative analysis and evidence-based practice.

Submit a 2-page paper that addresses the following:

·      Choose two qualitative research studies from this week’s resources and analyze the relationship between qualitative analysis and evidence-based practice.

·      Consider how the qualitative study contributes to social work practice and how this type of knowledge would fit into building evidence-based practice.

Explain your approach to providing treatment for this   family. What preliminary steps would you take to begin your assessment of   this family? Why? (400-500 words)

As a mental health worker, it is essential to understand the family systems: Individuals and their roles and boundaries. This assignment will help you understand how to analyze a family system.

Cite two to four sources (in addition to the textbook) to support your answers.

After viewing the What’s Eating Gilbert Grape film and reading the “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape Case Study,” answer the following prompts:

Explain how the family of origin dynamics caused the   family structure of Gilbert’s family (200-250 words).

Explain what the viewer doesn’t know about Gilbert’s   family (200-250 words):

Hypothesize about what leads to the mental health/social   issues in Gilbert’s family (100-150 words):

Describe at least five barriers that might interfere     with client implementation of the action plans that are created.     Include a case example of each barrier.

If counseling is all talk and no action it is not effective   counseling. The problem is that clients encounter many barriers in   carrying out actions they identify in the counseling process.

Write a 750-1,000-word paper discussing action planning and   overcoming barriers for client treatment. Please use headings and   include the following in your paper:

  1. Discuss the principles for effectively implementing an action   plan.
  2. Describe at least five barriers that might interfere     with client implementation of the action plans that are created.     Include a case example of each barrier.
  3. Outline a counselor     intervention that would help to overcome each barrier.
  4. A     list of your local community resources for different types of   needs.
  5. Outline an aftercare plan that utilized local     community resources.

Include at least three scholarly references in your paper.

With the proper leadership skills employees may be influenced, motivated and/or guided towards achieving organizational goals. In order to obtain such skills there must be a level of understanding how humans behave within an organization

Hello Class and Dr. Washington,

With the proper leadership skills employees may be influenced, motivated and/or guided towards achieving organizational goals. In order to obtain such skills there must be a level of understanding how humans behave within an organization. As an interdisciplinary body of knowledge with connections to behavioral and social sciences, one can say Organizational Behavior (OB) is also a science. According to SAGES (2019), the goal of any science is to describe, predict, explain and control. Just as Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology use scientific methods to understand behavior, OB also includes models, and variables in research to understand human behavior in organizations.

Key characteristics of OB as a scientific discipline are the sources of research used such as field studies, survey studies, case studies, laboratory studies and Meta analyses, (Uhl-Bien, Schermerhorn, & Osborn, 2014). Focused applications is one major component used by OB researches when developing questions for field studies and survey questions. Within each organization responses to situations may differ due to several variables to which researches may have to shift approaches with contingency thinking. In order to have a true understanding of OB and provide factual results and guidance, evidence-based management is recommended in the decision making process.

To be successful in any organization having an understanding of how humans behave within organizational situations is key. Having such an understanding will help in developing skills, relationships and knowledge based decision making skills to help in an ever changing organizational environment. Looking forward to all the gains from this course.
