Take the test and evaluate the assessments in which you have participated. What are some insights you gained by using various instruments and strategies throughout this class?

Most email today is spam, unwanted commercial email, or phishing, fake email designed to separate you from your money. Criminals routinely send fake emails that try to get you to tell them your log-in information for your bank or your PayPal account, so they can steal the information, log-in as you, and steal your money. It is very easy to fake a return address on an email, so simply looking to make sure that an email has a valid sender is not sufficient to ensure that the email was actually sent by the person or company that claims to have sent it.

The objective of this Activity is for you to trace an email you have received to see if the sending address on the email is actually the organization that sent it. There are many tools you can use to trace your email. For this exercise we will use a tool called eMail Tracker Pro, which has a free version that lasts 15 days. Go to www.emailtrackerpro.com and download and install eMail Tracker Pro. When you’re ready, follow the detail instructions for this activity located on page 51 in your textbookGo online and conduct a search for a free assessment test such as the ACE Study, Strong, the Beck Depression Inventory, or something similar. Take the test and evaluate the assessments in which you have participated. What are some insights you gained by using various instruments and strategies throughout this class? How might you apply this knowledge in the future when using assessments in counseling clients?

Reflect on the similarities and differences between the arguments, and ask yourself if there is a way in which both could be valid without excluding one or the other (Week 4)

For your Final Project, you will write a 5-page paper focusing on a topic that falls within the Science and Spirituality spectrum. In your paper, you will provide an overview of the topic, analyze and compare the central arguments posed by the scientific community and those posed by the religious community, and then evaluate the ways in which those topics are either able to be reconciled or need to remain separate. As a resource for your project you may use contemporary articles in journals (see the Optional Resources on the Resources page) to gain individual insights from contemporary thinkers. Make sure to include a full bibliography in APA format at the end of your paper to cite all of the sources you’ve used.

Weekly milestone documents located in the Resources section of each week will help you prepare for the Final Project. These documents do not need to be turned in and will not figure into your grade. They are simply tools that you can use as you work on your project, and are designed to help you:

  • Select an issue that figures into the ongoing discussion between Science and Spirituality (Week 1)
  • Locate several reliable sources that are relevant to the topic you have chosen (Week 2)
  • Review the scientific and spiritual arguments surrounding the topic you have chosen (Week 3)
  • Reflect on the similarities and differences between the arguments, and ask yourself if there is a way in which both could be valid without excluding one or the other (Week 4)
  • Organize your thoughts into a cohesive paper that examines and analyzes the current debate surrounding your topic (Week 5)

The assignment:

  • Compose a 5-page paper research paper (not including the Title Page and Reference Page) in which you:
    • Identify a topic relevant to the academic field of science and spirituality.
    • Pose an argument (claim) regarding the topic and support that claim with documented evidence.
    • Provide a brief overview of select arguments of both scientists and spiritual thinkers related to that topic.
    • Analyze the validity of selected arguments and determine whether the arguments could be reconciled.
    • Include a Title Page (including a title expressing the thesis/claim) and References.
    • Cite all sources, in proper APA format, used in your research.

Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Choose and read any one case study from Chapter 13 (Personality Disorders) in DSM-5 in Action.

Research the specific personality disorder from your chosen case study.

Create a 10-15-slide PowerPoint presentation about your selected case study.

Include the following in your presentation:

  • A brief description of the selected case study
  • Explanation and rationale for the Personality Disorder Diagnosis using the latest version of the DSM as a reference.
  • Information on the course of treatment for the disorder.
  • Identification of which cluster (A, B, or C) this personality disorder belongs to and an explanation of your rationale.
  • Information on the prognosis and prevalence of the disorder.
  • A minimum of five scholarly references including your textbook and the latest version of the DSM. Be sure to only use current and scholarly references for this assignment.
  • Include detailed speaker notes that represent what you would say if giving the presentation in person.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

Assignment – Week 1

Application: Vocational/Career Self-Assessment

As you begin this course in vocational psychology and counseling, as with any endeavor where you will be working closely with clients and colleagues, e.g., during practicum and internship experiences, it is a good idea to enhance your own self-awareness in the area as well as expose yourself to some of the tools of the trade. Thus, you will take a personality self-assessment (Self-Directed Search) and receive a report that interprets the results. You will also be introduced to the Walden University Career Services Center, and conduct your own self-assessment of your strengths. You will reflect on insights you gained as a result of taking these self-assessments and learning about the Career Center.

To prepare for this assignment:

· Think about what you might learn about yourself as a result of taking a self-assessment inventory in the area of vocational/career counseling/development at this stage of your life.

· There is a free version of the Self Directed Search online at: http://personality-testing.info/tests/RIASEC.php

· Take the survey.

· Review the report you get back. Do you think the interpretation is mostly accurate? In what ways? If not, why not? What insights did you have?

View the 15-minute Walden Career Services Video entitled “Self Knowledge Tools to Enhance Your Competitive Edge,” found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glLe8qqoKBE&feature=youtu.be

Then complete at least one of the self-assessments of strengths mentioned in the video (SWOT is free; SkillScan and StrengthFinder have nominal fees associated with them).

Summarize your results, and consider what was most valuable about the self-assessment of strengths exercise.

Think about a client taking such inventories. What role do you think a counselor might play in terms of helping a client interpret and deal with the results of the inventories?

The assignment: (2–3 pages)

· Write a synthesis of the findings from the self-assessments that you took (both the SDS and the strengths self-assessments recommended by the Walden Career Center)
· Describe your reactions to each. If you were in a counseling setting, what kind of support or response might you want from your counselor given your reaction?
· Report on what you found to be most valuable about completing the self-assessments and being introduced to the Walden Career Center.
· Discuss how you might apply these tools with clients who are interested in launching a career search.

Support your Application assignment with specific references to all resources used in its preparation. You are asked to provide a reference list only for those resources not included in the Learning Resources for this course.
